Class News

On Tuesday, November 10, we began the day with Flag Raising. We had visitors from the Armed Forces tell us why we celebrate Veterans Day.

We have two special visitors this month. On Thursday, Nov. 12, we have dental hygienists coming to explain the importance of taking care of your teeth. On Friday, Nov. 20, we have a person coming from the Humane Society. I know the students will enjoy these special activities.

Continue to listen to your child read from their bag of books. Don't forget to send it back on Monday.

Don't forget to print out the homework on Monday.

Scholastic Books

I will send home an order form November 9. The orders will be due Nov. 18. This will be a good time to order Christmas presents. Let me know if I need to hide them in the backpack :)

Reading Goal

Our school reading goal is 75,000 books! As you read to your child every night, remember to record the books in their book log. These books will count towards the 75,000 goal for our school.

Sight Words

Please practice the following sight words: I, a, the, go, my, we, will, in, can, see, this, is, here, day, like, an, you, am, are, color words

Homework Help

Each week in the homework I ask your child to write a story. As your child thinks about the story and writes down the words, it is not necessary for you to spell the words for them. I encourage the students to write down the sounds they hear in the word. This is phonetic spelling and it is just right for this stage of their development. You may encourage them to say the word slowly and write down all of the sounds they hear (we call this turtle talk). I do not expect to see all of the words spelled corrrectly. Thank you for taking time at home to encourage your child with their school work!

Congratulations!

These students have read 100 + books!

Welcome Ms. Kelley!

Ms. Kelley is a student at UNF. She will be working in our classroom every Thursday through December. Thursday, Oct. 22, she presented a lesson about pumpkins. She also brought pumpkins for the students to decorate. Thank you Ms. Kelley!

Thank You!

Thank you for the magazines and catalogs you collected for our school recycling contest. We came in second place with 9 ft and 3 inches! We had fun measuring the stacks and watching them grow!

Fall Festival

Thank you very much to Rachel Bagley for all of her hard work organizing our booth for the Fall Festival. Also, thank you to all of the parents who worked in the booth or sent in candy and baby items for the basket. It would not have been successful without your help!
