Upcoming Events
Chaffee Angel Tree
This year we will have an Angel Tree at Chaffee Trail. The names on the tree will be students who attend CTE and their siblings. The tree is in the front office where anyone wanting to sponsor a child may do so. If choosing to sponsor an Angel, remove tag from tree and write your name on the clip board by the tree next to the number correlating with the number on the tag. The gifts should be brought to the school, unwrapped with the original Angel tag taken from the tree. The child's name will not be revealed to the Angel sponser.
IDENT-A-KID will be coming on Tuesday Nov. 1. IDENT-A-KID provides instant and accurate information about your child for law enforcement, security personnel, media, family and friends to help locate your child if they are lost or missing. 1 card $6, 2 cards $8, 3 cards $10, 4 cards $12, 5 cards $14.
Our 5th Annual CTE Fall Carnival will be on Friday, November 4 from 5-9PM. Each classroom is in charge of running a booth. Our booth will be the "Cactus Tree." We will need volunteers to sign up to help run our booth during the carnival. PTA is asking for students to please bring in individually wrapped bags of suckers for our booth's consolation prizes. If you are interested in working a shift or helping decorate our booth, please let me know and I will put you in contact with our room parents.
There will also be a Silent Auction at the festival. Kindergarten's basket is the Bundle of Joy. We would love donations of baby toiletries, blankets, small toys, gift certificates, or books. Thanks!
Upcoming Field Trips
We will have our second field trip to the zoo on October 26!

This is going to be a fabulous year!
Beginning of Kindergarten
We have had a great beginning of Kindergarten. We have made a lot of new friends. We read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and went on a scavenger hunt each day to find letters. We read books, explored with math manipulatives, counted, sang and began writing by drawing pictures and orally telling the story. We have learned class and school rituals and routines to be amazing students. We have also learned that we are the "Best Kindergarten Class Ever", just ask your child!! We will continue to be adjusting and learning each day! Check out our pictures tab and pictures will be added soon!
A Day in the Life of a Kindergartener
The beginning of Kindergarten is an exciting time! However, it can be daunting and overwhelming for these precious little ones. We spend the first two weeks going over our Rituals and Routines of the classroom so the students become comfortable and are able to focus their brainpower on learning instead of trying to figure out what they are supposed to do. As they arrive at school, they sit along their assigned wall reading a book from the class basket until they are called to come into the classroom.
The day begins with activities involving the Every Day Calendar. These activities are teaching the foundations of math skills. These activities lead into a Skills Block which is where the basics of Kindergarten are covered: letter and sounds, numbers, colors, shapes, sight words, etc. After Skills Block is Reader's Workshop where the students are taught the fundamentals of the reading process: reading left to right, using illustrations to determine meaning, decoding skills, etc. After lunch we have Writer's Workshop where the students are learning how to put ideas from their minds into print on paper. Then we have Math Investigations where they are able to use different manipulatives to reinforce their understanding of mathematical skills. This leads into Science and Social Studies Workshops. Add to this the different Resources: PE, Music, Art, Computer Lab, and Library. Each Workshop follows the same format: a mini-lesson, work period and closing. The district has written the first 10 lessons for Readers' and Writers' Workshops, helping the teachers institute those all-important rituals and routines including early lessons in Readers' Workshop, charting as a class how independent readers look and sound and good listeners look and sound.
These beginning days are busy as new kindergarteners learn the workings of their new classroom. Keep in touch to see how "A day in the life of a Kindergartener" is progressing! :-)
