The Love and Logic process includes: sharing control and decision-making, using empathy with consequences, and enhancing the self-concept of children. Love and Logic philosophy states the importance of adults providing limits in a caring way. It involves building students up so they feel more capable, even after being disciplined. It is maintained with compassion and understanding. Childhood misbehavior can be used as an opportunity for helping children grow through their mistakes. Children learn to be responsible and gain self-confidence.
Consequences and rewards will be determined on an individual basis by your child and myself. If your child is struggling, they will be asked to complete a “think it over” form and meet with me to determine a consequence. If the behavior continues, I will contact you.
My name is Stephanie Levine and I am your child’s fifth grade teacher. I graduated from Western Michigan University in 2004 and have been working for Warren Consolidated Schools since 2005. My teaching experience includes: sixth grade language arts/reading, fourth grade, third grade and now fifth grade! I have a reading specialist endorsement and a master’s degree from Wayne State University in the area of reading, language and literacy.
Your child is expected to turn in homework the following day unless told otherwise. Homework will either be unfinished work from the day or extra practice of a new skill. Your child will have math homework nightly from their math workbook and should be reading a minimum of twenty minutes nightly. It should never take your child more than thirty minutes to complete homework assignments. Please check your child’s agenda to see if they have any work to complete. If you see a MISSING ASSIGNMENT- MS. LEVINE stamp in the agenda, your son or daughter did not complete their homework. Homework that is not complete will be done during recess time. If you child forgets to bring home materials needed to finish their work, they will have an opportunity to complete the assignment during recess. Late homework will not be accepted for a grade; however your child will complete the missing work during recess time.
It is your child’s responsibility to fill out their agenda everyday. They are required to write in homework and upcoming events. I encourage your to check and sign the agenda daily. This is an easy way for you and me to communicate. I check the agenda each morning- please leave me a note if you have a concern or comment. Thank you for your support!
If your child would like to celebrate his/her birthday with a special treat in class, please schedule the day with me in advance. It is best to send individual pre-cut treats along with appropriate utensils. Please be aware of food allergies, include the treats ingredients.
Snack
Children should bring a healthy snack for mid-morning. Fruit, yogurt, crackers, etc. are fine but no candy or sweets please. Children will not be allowed to share or trade snacks.
