TWO THUMBS UP!

I recently had the opportunity to see the most recent Dr. Seuss book made into a movie, The Lorax.  I have been really disappointed with his other movies and have felt that have filled the plot with "unnecessary fluff;" however, The Lorax was heart-warming, entertaining, and family friendly.  It spreads a wonderful message.  I highly recommend it and can't wait to add it to my personal collection : )

"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better.  It's not." --

Picture Make Up Day

Picture Make Up Day has been changed to November 1st!

GOT CAN TABS?

2nd grade and 3rd grade will be working together as ACE partners this year.  We have chosen to support the Ronald McDonald Foundation in Durham, which makes it possible for family members to stay close to their terminally ill children during their hospital stay.  Please help us support this wonderful cause by sending in can tabs in a Ziploc bag.  Thank you!

*2nd grade alone has brought in over 849 can tabs and our collection continues to grow!  Please spread the word -- get family, friends, and co-workers involved :)

SCHOOL PICTURE DAY - Friday, September 2nd

Mordecai Historic Park Field Trip

Before the days of running water, people would take a weekly bath.  They had to fetch the water themselves and it was placed next to a fire to warm the freezing water some.  The same water would be shared by all the members of the household.

Before the days of toilets, people would use an outhouse; however, if it was during the middle of the night, you would use a chamber pot.  In the morning, it was one of the children's chores to empty them out.

Andrew Johnson was working as an apprentice in an tailor shop.  One day, he decided he had enough and ran away.  A $10 reward was offered to anyone who found Andrew Johnson.  Today, the equivalent to that amount would be around $200.

The humble birthplace of Mr. Andrew Johnson -- later to become our nation's 17th President.  He never attended a day of school in his life because his family was too poor.  It was because of his wife that he finally learned to read and write.
