Kerrville Folk Festival

It's coming up fast, those magical 18 days we crave year after year.  So far, we've been treated to some awesome concerts thanks to JaySea and Michelle putting together line up after line-up.  These musicians volunteered their time to the cause so I am donating my photographs to the artists and this is the site where you can find you photo in full resolution.

You can either print it using the Shutterfly/Target service, and their photographs have not disappointed.  Their work is stunning.  They offer other products as well, so you may want to create an account, join my site, and create a book, or coaster, or coffee mug with your favorite performer.

I hope you enjoy these photographs as much as I enjoyed taking them.

In my steed last Saturday night, Skyman took my place and he will be getting a page here as well to show off his works.

Thanks
Karen

New Filters

In this latest upload you will notice some super macro shots, done by purchasing a +10 magnifyer filter that fits my 70mm-300mm zoom/macro lens.

The results are outstanding, from crisp clear water droplets to more abstract uses of the lenses refracting phenomena as a result of such a large lens.

It is fun!

Also, more people.  I am the 'official' photographer for the Kerrville Folk Festival Work Weekend Concerts.  See calendar on my new page "Kerrville Folk Festival"

Enjoy the latest work, let me hear from you!

Happy New Year

Just a short update to let you know more photos have been added to the site.

Happy New Year!..

I am now on two stock-photography sites , more on that later...enjoy the show!

Kerrville Town Photo Page

Welcome to a history of Kerrville, Texas.  As another project for every continuing quest for that illusive perfect photo I went into town to take photos of landmarks.

Taking all the photos using .raw format, I am able to develop them in a digital darkroom which allows me much greater latitude than with other file formats.

Some of these photos were developed in black and white with a sepia tint and a infra-red filter which created very dramatic dark skies against the sunlit buildings of downtown Kerrville.

There is much history here as is indicated by the historical article included on the page.

Enjoy the tour and for high quality prints of these images go to my DeviantArt website at http://www.musickscapes.deviantart.com

Practice Practice Practice

How do I become a better photographer?  Practice.  What I love most about digital SLR's is the cost factor.  Now that a good 10 mgp camera is competitive with film camera and quality wise I think digital creates a better photograph, but please, traditional photographers don't eat me for dinner!  It is my opinion only.

With my digital SLR I can take as many photos without worry about cost of processing or film.  I can snap away with my four gig memory card and over 200 photos stored in .raw format, there is little need to come back to the house to download images.  I can wonder and enjoy the freedom of practice.

What makes a great photo can be broken down into scientific terminology, but there are plenty of sights on the internet for that.  I'm looking for something more elusive, harder to define that makes that one picture stand out in a crowd.

I'm  not there yet.  I've got one or two photos that maybe to the untrained eye are beyond words.  But I haven't struck my gold yet.  So I practice.

Everyday.

Something.

So, enjoy watching the journey as this site is where you'll see more work than my sister deviant art site.

New Camera

My old olympus camedia finally hit the dust.  Not literally, as I do live in a dusty place.

But it broke after five wonderful years and thousands, perhaps tens of thousands of photos taken.  From macro flower photography to Wyoming and the Big Bend the Camedia took excellent photos.  For an artist.  It was suggested by my photo-fans, those in the know, on dA that I try stock-photography.  HA!

That is when i discovered my precious wonderful camera was a piece of ......

At least for doing stock-photos.

Taking the poor thing to the camera shop, it would have cost me half the price of a brand new upgrade.  So I made an investment in myself, my abilities and my dreams of one day being a top-rated nature photographer.

So far, not so good.  I am not getting this stock photo thing.  So this site is for the pictures taken with my new camera and critiques that will make me a better photographer.

Oh, I got a PENTAX K200 with the standard lens plus a nice zoom/macro lens.  Judge for yourself. Please, leave CONSTRUCTIVE criticisms.  Not stuff just because you dont like the shot.  But advice that will make me a better photographer.  Thanks and enjoy watching me grow!  Karen

Welcome

This is a sister site to www.musickscapes.com and www.musickscapes.deviantart.com.  This is a photographic site for Karen's new Pentax K200D Professional Digital SLR only and showcases Karen Musick's beautifully crafted and developed nature photos, all shot in .raw format to get all the information the camera captures.  She then developes these with a digitial dark room.

Living in the picturesque hill country of Texas, Karen is never at a shortage of subject matter.  The valley she lives in creates dramatic skies and intense sunsets and sunrises.  People as well will begin to be a topic of interest as she just successfully photographed her own daughter's wedding.  You can see these at www.cookwedding110808.shutterfly.com

With her self-taught eye, Karen is always 'seeing the picture' just not always able to see it.  As she perfects her skills as a photographer, you are welcome to come along for the ride.  Prints of these photos are available both here and at http://musickscapes.deviantart.com/store/ where not only can you get prints in a variety of sizes to fit any buget but other products as well.  Including high quality art-prints.

Come in and view MUSICKSCAPES, the landscapes of the mind.
