Two Pie Auctions, One Huge Rummage Sale, Breakfast Burrito Sales, and a Big Car Wash created a sense of community and helped raise money for the trip.  Trip participants and member of our church donated even more.

    Kathy Hamilton called me this afternoon to report that all was
 going well in Honduras. The travel from San Pedro by van wasn't as
bad as feared and the main roads were actually paved! It has not been
rainy and bug haven't been a big problem. It sounds like only light
sheet(s) are required for sleeping. The daytime temperature has been
in the upper 80's.  She says it's rocky at the work site and the
ground is pretty uneven. She's doing fine in sneakers though. The
dormitory is a short walk (5 min.) from the work site and I gathered
that they are commencing  block work on the classroom.
   She recommended that everyone have a wide mouth water container
that they can refill when the opportunity comes up. Water and it's
transport are an issue. If you have a collapsible water container for
camping purposes please bring it. Kathy also thought it would be good
to bring along snack type foods like salted nuts or even jerky. Sounds
like there could be dehydration issues.
    There are lots of kids around so it might be  goodwill to have
little toys and treats for the bambinos. She suggested jacks, pick-up
sticks and marbles, if anyone has any. They are wearing out the one
soccerball (Joel and Charlie too) so I'll grab one for my bag and
someone else can scrounge one too. Jerry will contact his son Daniel
and let him know what other materials/tools might be useful that we
could possibly bring. I'll call Daniel tomorrow evening and try to
send along to you all his recommendations.
    I hope to get one more guitar so if anyone wants to volunteer to
bring it as their carry-on, let me know. I'm very excited to see you
all at noon Friday at MVCC and remember to continue praying for

Two other things came to mind from my conversation with Kathy H. Cloth gloves work better than leather because of the heat and humidity. She also recommended using a large sponge instead of a washcloth for bathing. She also memtioned that just about everyone was working in shorts.

HOLA!  Most of Team Uno (Charlie, Kathy, John, Mercedes, and myself) has returned from our amazing Honduras adventure-- although we felt a little incomplete without Jerry and Laurie, who made the transition to Team Dos.  What an incredible journey!  We all had an amazing time in this beautiful country, most of it spent in the (very) rural, beautiful village of Esquimay in the southern part of Honduras.  The huge portion of Honduras that we saw was incredibly diverse and beautiful, the people were warm and welcoming to us, and we all learned so much and were so enriched by the entire experience.  We journaled most days of our trip, and those entries will be posted once the journal returns with Team Dos.  We thoroughly enjoyed time at a waterfall with Team Dos, who were excited for their adventure to come-- they seemed to have had a smooth trip down to San Pedro Sula.  I will put up some pictures in the next few days, and more will surely follow.  We all look forward to sharing our stories and experiences with you all in the days, weeks, and months to come!

It was an outstanding experience, and it is good to be home.  The village of Esquimay is beautiful and the people were so welcoming.  The school room was really progressing, with Uno completing the foundation, and Dos digging a retaining wall, building the cinder blocks 9 high, moving blocks and sand, and playing with the children.  It was the children who really made the experience for most of us.  They loved to play soccer, football, frisbee, draw and make fortune tellers.  Language is no barrier to play or work!
