My Sewing Room

My Singer treadle.  It's a "Red-eye" in there...

This is actually not in my sewing room, but I had to include it!

View from the doorway.  My makeshift design wall is simply a piece of batting that I stick to the wall with pins.  I take it down when I have overnight guests.  I really want to hang a quilt in that spot, but then I wouldn't have a design wall!  What to do...

The futon folds out and this becomes a double bed.  This room is also our guest room which is why I have everything set up where I can stowe it out of the way on shelves, or in my closet.

My "entertainment center".  The cabinet under the window actually opens up into a nice sewing table.  I keep it closed when I'm not using it just to keep the room uncluttered.  Usually I use it when I am sewing garments and I set the serger up on it.

This is my sewing table.  It is an old dining room table that I found for $30.  It used to be an UGLY red/green color, but I painted it black so that it would match any room I ever use it in.  The thing is SOLID and heavy.  I can stand on it and it doesn't move at all (I do often stand on it because I can't reach anything on the shelf otherwise!)

View from the window side of the room.  You'd never know it, but behing the doorway is a peg board with all of my rulers and other stuff.

View from the window side of the room.  The door hides my pegboard which is nice.  This is what the room looks like when I am not actually working in it.  I fold the cutting table down and push it against the wall.

Told ya there was "stuff" behind that door!  The basket is full of my stabilizers.

My wonderful walk-in closet!
My Sewing Room 012.jpg
My Sewing Room 012.jpg
The left side of my walk-in.  I have sewing stuff in the left-most set of drawers and scrapbooking stuff in the right side one.  The small box next to that has my embroidery thread collection in it (well most of it).

The hangers are my UFO's.  Mostly quilt tops that are pieced and waiting to be quilted.

This is the right side of the closet and behind the door.  I was standing at the back of my closet to take this photo.  The fabric on this side is all quilting cotton.

View of the right side with the door closed.  I hide my machine boxes, batting, etc. behind the door.

Okay, here is my stash.  This is behind the door on the right.  Next to the wall we begin with my Americana/Patriotic fabrics.  Just to the left are holiday fabrics.

Moving on we have some more holiday fabrics and then we get into my reds and pinks. My small stash of batiks is just at the end.

The back shelf from right to left:  my "neutrals" and background fabrics (mostly creams and whites), then some fall'ish groupings, and then some Moda's that are actually the beginnings of five different quilts that I am collecting fabrics for.

We are on the left side of my closet now, and into my garment fabrics.  Notice the change from color to mostly blacks and grays with red and pink thrown in here and there.

My serger (one of them) sits in the closet to keep it out of my way.  That table actually houses a freshly refurbished Singer 201-2 (thanks Jenny G!).  I keep it in the closet now because it was too crowded in the room.  However, all I have to do is move my stool out of the way and there is actually enough room for me to open the cabinet up and sew with either the Singer or the Serger!

I love my closet!

My fat quarter stash.  There are over 500 fat quarters in there!  No, I didn't count them individually!  I counted one level and then multiplied.

That is a hanging shoe rack that I bought for $6 at Lowes.  It is the perfect size to hold two stacks of fat quarters in each level.  It can hold a LOT of them!   I have enough room to put another one or two in there, but so far I haven't needed to.

Yet more plastic storage drawers.  The one on the left holds serger thread, and then the bottom two drawers hold my Dear Jane fabric and blocks in progress.

The Artbin satchels that are stacked are how I sort my works in progress.  The top one is a block of the month that I've got going, and then I have various other projects sorted into the others.  I like to gather my project fabrics together and then keep them separated from my stash.  Otherwise I am liable to cannibalize them on accident. I like this system because it is easy to grab the project I want to work on without disturbing the rest of my stuff.

My sewing boxes. I try to keep them out of the way, so they live behind the door in my closet.

This bookcase holds my sewing books and about half of my sewing patterns.  The pretty pottery bowl on the top shelf is my popcorn bowl!  I camouflage it!

Another picture of my shelves.  If you look closely you can even see my popcorn!  I was getting ready to watch a movie when I took this picture.  :-)

This is an identical bookcase on the other side of the futon.  It holds all of my quilting books and patterns.  I stowe my space heater beside it when I'm not using it.

My (small) collection of vintage buttons and wooden spools.  I also have a few raggedy's if you haven't noticed by now!

This shelf is right above my sewing table.  I have the corkboard full of garments that I want to knock-off.  Someday I might actually do it.  I can also stick pattern instructions up there when I am working on things and then all I have to do is look up and I can see them.  It keeps them out of the way.  In the basket is the other half of my garment pattern stash.  Mostly independent companys.

That is a Singer 301A on the shelf.  It is also freshly refurbished and works great although I rarely use it.  I like the 201-2 for actual sewing!

Just another view of my sewing table.  The TV is just to the left so I can sew and watch TV at the same time.  And I do!  I rarely am working in this room without a movie on.

My cutting table.  I keep it folded up when I'm not working.  That doily that is hanging next to my thread is hand crocheted by my MIL's aunt.  I use it as a coaster and hang it up when not in use because I think it's pretty!
