January 2012: Naples Sailing and Yacht Club's 5th Annual New Year's Cup
It looked like it would be a long slow day, but just enough wind picked up to keep the boats moving and allowed three nice races on a day more tuned into social conversation. We all agreed that Saturday's racing was highlighted by the great brunch Sunday morning at NSYC. These photos were taken by Nicoletta Amendola from the deck of Moby Nick.

December 2011: Naples Yacht Club launches first Caxambas 30
Faced with time pressures on Naples sailors, the Naples Yacht Club for this year cancelled its 90-Mile overnight to Boca Grande, but replaced it with a quick Saturday 30-mile race to Caxambas Pass G1 and back, which lasted about 8 hours from start to finish.
Highlight of the day was a dramatic down wind start where competitors had to judge the casting range of fishermen on the "Committee Dock" vs. the need of some boats to pop spin before crossing the starting line. All divisions were in one start.
These very unique photos are from the deck of Dragon Fly Plus, a 53 ft. Swan, running in the cruising division, who took best overall, even though it took time out to photograph the start. Non spin went to Bentley, Spin went to Vee Jay, Multihull to TriPower.

October 2011: Naples Sailing and Yacht Club's 47th Commodore's Cup . . . kicked off with a 16-mile coastal pursuit race between Naples and Marco Island on Oct. 29, followed by Buoy races off Keewaydin Island on Oct. 30.
The pursuit race was a challenge because as the racers reached the upwind mark at Capri Pass the wind changed so that the second leg of the course to Naples Pier was also an upwind mark, but also littered with sometimes heavy rain showers.
The buoy races the next day saw winds ~25 mph with gusts in the 30s; nothing more needs to be said about that.
