Another beautiful snowy day in Rhode Island! Thank you, Mother Nature! Unfortunately, that means no school today. No worries because we will add an extra class onto the end of our session. See you all next week! =)
You are invited to join teachers from our local yoga community every Saturday morning at Casey Farm in Saunderstown for a yoga experience that you will not soon forget.
Casey Farm is a 300-acre working farm, owned by Historic New England, that is home to a successful Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program and the Coastal Grower’s Market, which takes place on Saturday mornings from May to November. This mid 18th-century homestead overlooking Narragansett Bay was the center of a plantation that produced food for local and foreign markets.
Each week a different yoga teacher will be volunteering their time to share an hour with you in this magical outdoor space. Classes will begin at 8am and conclude at 9am to allow you plenty of time to explore the wonders of the Coastal Grower's Market, http://www.coastalmarket.org/Welcome.html.
When you drive into the farm you will turn right and follow signs for parking. There is a public restroom located at the far end of the main barn (should you need one). Classes will be held behind the farm house under a large blue tent (which you can’t miss!) rain or shine, unless there are high winds or a torrential downpour.
Please let anyone that you feel might be interested know about the program. All levels are welcome! Please email me with any questions.
The series will begin this Saturday, July 3rd, with a community class at 8am followed by a family class at 10am. I will be teaching the only other family class offered at the farm this summer on July 31st at 10am. If you will already be at the beach by 10am, feel free to share the 8am community class with me earlier that morning. You can also enjoy a steamy Saturday morning with me on August 28th for the 8am community yoga class! =) I look forward to seeing all of you again real soon!
Welcome back, friends!
I hope that everyone had a restful and fun-filled Spring break. On Monday, May 10th, Nature's Om Yoga will be traveling to Matunuck Elementary School to begin another Spring session of kindergarten through second grade after school yoga. I am looking forward to sharing some time with our yogis from last year, as well as welcoming some new little ones into our Nature's Om Yoga family. Enjoy the sunshine, the tulips and return of our winged friends. I will see you soon!
Be well! =)
I am looking forward to sharing some afternoons with all of my Peace Dale faculty and staff friends! The series will include three Monday afternoons in December leading up to the holiday break and three Friday afternoons in January when we return. All levels are welcome to attend. Classes are not only open to faculty & staff at Peace Dale, but substitutes and friends as well. You may purchase the entire series or drop in whenever you'd like to attend a class. Let's welcome in winter with tranquility and calm.
Namaste.
I can hardly believe that our time together has passed. What a super group of Yogis you are! If you'd like to join me again for another session, please watch for the flyers to come home in your Friday Folders in a few months. My next session is for K-2nd graders. If you know anyone who might be interested please share with them your experiences. Until next time.
Namaste.

The program designed for your second, third, or fourth grader is uniquely tailored for children of this age group. Friends will be encouraged to explore and discover the mind and body through yoga in a fun-filled way! We will use animated poses, or asanas, and basic stretching exercises to promote strength, flexibility, balance, coordination and body awareness. Breathing and meditation activities will offer your children some tools to improve their focus, relaxation and self-control. The intention of every Nature's Om Yoga program is to encourage fun and exploration in a safe and noncompetitive environment while surrounded by friends. In addition to reaping yoga's physical benefits we will be mindful of building inner-strength, confidence & self-esteem; respect for one another; and, most importantly a love for one's inner and outer self.
We are all living in an extremely busy and fast paced world filled with deadlines, appointments, competition and stress. How wonderful would it be if we could all take the time to give ourselves the gift of peace, calm and understanding in the midst of all of this? Our children feel the pressure and stress, just as we do, and yoga can be a wonderful tool to help young ones learn to more easily navigate our challenging world. Yoga encourages relaxation and caring for ones self. It promotes self-esteem and body awareness through a noncompetitive form of exercise. Yoga classes enhance an individual's flexibility, strength, coordination, and alignment. As an additional bonus, concentration and ability to appreciate stillness and relaxation improve. Yoga is an ancient practice that was created thousands of years ago by yogis who understood, respected and valued the natural world. The yoga postures, or asanas, are named after and inspired by plants and animals. Children gain a special understanding of the asanas by imitating the natural counterpart. Not only can they physically experience the pose, but they can mentally envision what it might be like to actually be the animal or plant. An example of this can be seen with the asana called Tree, or Vrksasana in Sanskrit, which allows the child to explore their individual sense of balance while simultaneously imagining what type of tree they might be and how deep into the earth their roots might be reaching. At times, adults forget the importance of the interconnectedness of body and mind experience. Children, in contrast, fully live that connection with each experience every day. What an amazing world it would be if we all allowed ourselves to remember the innate honesty and humility that we are given as children while maintaining the connectedness of body and mind throughout our lives.
