Sonoma County is Gearing Up for Green Jobs

On Saturday, September 27, 2008 The North Bay Institute of Green Technology-Youth Green Jobs Sonoma in Santa Rosa, California hosted a "Green Jobs Solutions Salon - Panel Discussion" at Santa Rosa Junior College, Doyle Library which is a green building with recycled carpet, solar on the roof, and very welcome green air conditioning. We had over 60 attendees about a third of the participants represented the youth of our community who came to hear about the growing green economy and our efforts to foster green jobs training and placement of youth from disadvantaged neighborhoods.

Our event was marked by great interest, thoughtful questions and spirited participation in the Solutions Salon that followed the presentation. The participants contributed their answers to the questions 1) what needs to happen in Sonoma County, CA to foster green jobs for youth and 2) and who needs to be involved for those things to happen. The organizers intended for this event to be the opening conversation in Sonoma County about green jobs for youth and that it will be followed soon by a larger and more structured 2009 "Good Jobs, Green Jobs- Solutions Summit" that will bring all the community stakeholders together to address the needs for a green workforce to address AB32 and new green building code implementations.

The enthusiastic participants also signed petitions to the presidential candidates saying they were ready to support a green economy and we posed for a group photo.
