The captains for the 2012 Lady Wildcat Track & Field team are Nina Lee, Hannah Magnuson and Jordan Williams.
Nina is a Senior and competes in sprints and long/triple jumps. Nina is also a member of the Normal West football & wrestling teams.
Hannah is also a Senior and competes in the middle distance races. Hannah is a IHSA state qualifier in the 800M and was a member of the2010 medal placing 4x800 relay team. Hannah currently holds the school records in the Indoor 4x400 & 4x800 Relays and Outdoor 800 M & 4x800 Relay. Hannah also competed all 4 years on Normal West Cross Country team.
Jordan is a Senior sprinter. Jordan's favorite event is the 4x100 relay with running the 2nd leg. Jordan plans to compete in track & field next year at the collegiate level. Jordan is a member of the Senior Board at Normal West.
| Normal West senior Taylor Kirby won the state pole vault title on Saturday with a leap of 12-6. She becomes Normal West's first state champion in any sport. Emily Brelsfoard finished in sixth place in the 1600 and the 3200 meter races while the 4x800 relay team of Bailey Kerschieter, Karen Black, Jaci Clark, and Hannah Magnuson finished seventh and set a new school record. Hannah Magnuson also posted a new school record on Friday prelims in the 800 just missing the "finals" cut. Congratulations, Wildcats! |
Brelsfoard finished the 3,200 in 10:59.19 and topped the 1,600 at 5:11.66 as the Wildcats finished fifth as a team with 50 points. East St. Louis won with 110 points.
West senior Taylor Kirby qualified in the pole vault as she cleared 11-9.
The Wildcats’ 3,200 relay team of Jacilyn Clark, Bailey Kerschieter, Karen Black and Hannah Magnuson qualified, taking second in 9:34.11, this is the No. 8 time in Pantagraph area history.
Magnuson was also second in the 800 (2:19.30). Congratulations to all and good luck next week!
The Lady Wildcats won the "Big 12" Conference meet last night with 129 points followed by NCHS (89), Bloomington (73), Urbana (71), MacArthur (45), Danville (38), Centennial (34), Central (30), Eisenhower (25) and Mattoon (24).
Emily Brelsfoard was a double winner in the 1600 and 3200. Taylor Kirby placed first in the Pole Vault with a new meet record of 12'0. Other first place winners were Katie Shifflet (100 Hurdles) & Bailey Kerschieter (800). The winning relays were the 4x800 (Brianna Jacobs, Jaci Clark, Kerschieter, Hannah Magnuson), 4x200 (Alexia Taylor, Cecilia Holmes, Rachael Williams, Kirby) and the 4x400 (Kerschieter, Clark, Kirby, Magnuson).
The Normal West Girls Track & Field team were crowned Intercity Champions last night at Bloomington High School. Leading the way for the Wildcats was Sophomore Emily Brelsfoard’s double victory’s in the 1600 & 3200. Meet records were set by Senior Taylor Kirby (Pole Vault) & 4x800 Relay of Senior’s Karen Black, Jaci Clark and Junior’s Hannah Magnuson and Bailey Kerschieter. Other Intercity Champions were freshman Katie Shifflet (100 Hurdles), Kerschieter (800) and 4x400 Relay of Kirby, Clark, Kerschieter and Magnuson. Runner-up finisher’s were Shifflet (High Jump & 300 Hurdles), Kirby (200M) & Magnuson (1600). Congratulations to all of the Lady Wildcats!
Freshman Katie Shifflet won 3 events in a non-scored tri-angular meet held at Normal West Monday evening. Shifflet won the High Jump (5’0”), 100 Hurdles (17.3) and 300 Hurdles (51.7). Other first place finishers were Freshman Paige Weekly (800 M), Junior Hannah Magnuson (1600 M), Senior Taylor Kirby (Pole Vault) and Freshman Tia Robertson (Shot Put). The 4x100 Relay (Alexia Taylor, Jordan Williams, Rachael Williams, D’Onna Stokes), 4x200 Relay (Sarah Huber, Nina Lee, R. Williams, Taylor), and 4x800 Relay (Tyraina Schupbach, Weekly, Jaci Clark, Karen Black ) were also victorious.
Led by double winners sophomore Emily Brelsfoard (3200 & 1600) and freshman Katie Shifflet (high jump & 100 hurdles) the Lady Wildcats won the Metamora Invitational on Saturday. Top five team scores were Normal West (144), Normal Community (93), Eureka (85), Pontiac (81), and Metamora (73) in the 12 team invitational.
Other first place finishers were junior Hannah Magnuson (800)and meet record setting relays Relays of D'Onna Stokes, Jordan Williams, Rachael Williams and Alexia Taylor (4x100) and Karen Black, Jaci Clark, Magnuson and Bailey Kerschieter (4x800).
The Lady Wildcats came away big winners last night with a 4 team meet win scoring 136 points. Other team and point totals were Urbana (88), Rantoul (49), Lincoln (36) and Decatur Eisenhower (33). First place finishers for the Wildcats were Seniors Jaci Clark (400) & Karen Black (800). Juniors Michaella Fowler (1600), Bailey Kerschieter (3200), Caileigh Peterson (High Jump). Sophomore Haley Mullins (Discus) and Freshman Tia Robertson (Shot Put). The 4x100 Relay of D’Onna Stokes, Jordan Williams, Rachael Williams and Alexia Taylor were also victorious. Congratulations to all!!
Senior Taylor Kirby broke her own outdoor Pole Vault school record with a vault of 12’0 with a first place finish at a Tri-Angular meet at Normal Community last night. Three teams competing were Normal West, Normal Community and Decatur MacArthur. No team scores were kept. First place finishers for the Wildcats were Freshman Katie Shifflet (High Jump, 110 Hurdles & 300 Hurdles), Senior Brianna Jacobs (800), Senior Karen Black (1600) and the 4x800 Relay (Emily Brelsfoard, Michaella Fowler, Tyraina Schupbach & Paige Weekly). Congratulations to all of the Lady Wildcats who competed in the meet.

The track & field meet scheduled for April 5th at Decatur MacArthur has been moved to NCHS due to a scheduling conflict.
Senior Taylor Kirby placed 2nd in the prestigious Windy City Pole Vault Summit held at Rolling Meadows High School on Saturday afternoon. Taylor tied her school record with a vault of 12'9.

Senior Taylor Kirby has decided on University of Wisconsin @ Madison to continue her collegiate pole vaulting career. We wish Taylor the best of luck!
Senior Taylor Kirby qualified for Junior Nationals with a vault of 12'9 over the weekend. Taylor is currently ranked 4th in the nation. Congratulations Taylor!
Junior Bailey Kerschieter competed in the Arkansas High School Invitational Track & Field meet on Saturday, January 15th. Bailey participated in the 800 M. She won her heat by 4 seconds and was 7th Overall with a time of 2:25.9. Way to go Bailey!!!!
