Welcome

The purpose of the NDTA Scott/St. Louis Chapter scholarship program is to promote careers in Business, Transportation Logistics, and Physical Distribution. Although all students may apply, preference is given to students pursuing these and related courses of study.

Scholarships are open to any high school student that meets the eligibility criteria.  One scholarship is available for any college student enrolled in a degree program.  One award is set aside for immediate family members of active members of the Scott / St. Louis Chapter of the NDTA.

Scholarship applicants must meet a variety of requirements that include submitting an application and an essay.  Two awards are named in honor of former chapter members that were influential in not only their careers in defense transportation, but also for their contributions to the world of academia.

Eligibility

High school applicants must reside in Illinois or Missouri. College students must be enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited institution in a state within the NDTA’s Central Region (CO, IA, IL, IN, KS, MI, MN, MO, MT, ND, NE, SD, WI, WY).

There are no residency criteria for immediate family members of active members of the Scott/St. Louis NDTA Chapter. For consideration as an immediate family member, the member must be an active member of the Scott/St. Louis Chapter of NDTA on March 1 of the award year and remain an active member when each of the two award installments are paid during the award winner’s school year.

Scott-St. Louis Chapter Celebrates NT Week 2011

The Scott-St. Louis Chapter of the National Defense Transportation Association celebrated National Transportation (NT) Week, May 15-21.  National Defense Transportation Day has been observed since 1957, when the Congress of the requested the President proclaim the third Friday in May each year as National Defense Transportation Day. In 1962, the President was requested by Congressional Joint Resolution to proclaim the week in which that Friday falls as National Transportation Week.  The Scott-St. Louis Chapter commemorated this year’s National Transportation Week with a series of activities to foster community relations and education on transportation activities.

Chapter 82 recognized National Transportation Week by sponsoring a poster contest with local 5th graders.  The theme of the poster contest was "Transportation Connects the World."  We received over 60 poster entries from Mascoutah Elementary.  Our winners were Tyler Elaine Flint - 1st Place ($100 savings bond and an invitation to attend our Annual Scholarship and Awards Dinner), Sophia Torres Aranda - 2nd Place ($75 savings bond), and Kaitlyn Jennings - 3rd place ($50 savings bond).  Thank you to all of the 5th graders who participated in our poster contest!

Offcial NT Week festivities began with a luncheon held at the Regency Conference Center on Tuesday, May 17th. The National Transportation Week proclamation signed by President Barack Obama was highlighted and an overview of the origin of National Transportation Week was provided as the initiation of activities.  Mr. Edward Berti, Director/GM Military and Government Services for Horizon Lines, INCwas the guest speaker at the luncheon.

A special thanks to our corporate sponsors for the month of May 2011 - Sumaria Systems, Stanley/CGI, Superlative Technologies (SuprTEK), and Saint Louis University CSCMS.

Directly following the luncheon, Chapter 82 sponsored their 1st career fair with support from over 20 companies.  The event was attended from career seekers of all backgrounds.

The Scott-St. Louis Chapter conducted their Annual Scholarship and Awards Dinner on Wednesday, May 20th at Bellecourt Place in Belleville, IL to recognize the recipients of the 2011 Scholarships, the 1st place poster contest winner as well as Chapter 82 volunteers.  The distinguished guest speaker for the evening was Ms. Carol Daniel, co-host "Great Day St. Louis" KMOV and a gifted motivational speaker.

Recipients of this year’s scholarships were: Brandon Straight (Major General John Stanford Memorial Scholarship Winner), Joshua Wetzig, (Colonel Robert Miles Memorial Scholarship Winner), Jialing Zhou, Trevor Wood, Bethany Sexton, Michael Rhodes, Blake Nanney (Trade School Winner) and Toby Hall (Trade School Winner).  Many civilian senior leaders industry partners participated in this event to demonstrate their support for fostering transportation as a vocation.

On Friday, May 20th, National Transportation Day, the Scott-St. Louis Chapter hosted their Annual Scholarship Fundraising Golf outing to support their scholarship program for 2012.  Supporters of this year’s tournament included various businesses within the Metro East and other transportation related companies.

A special thank you to everyone who helped make National Transportation Week successful for Chapter 82.  Without the dedication of the membership and our supporters none of this would be possible.  Thanks!
