In April of 2009, NetIP Austin, the premier organization for South Asian Professionals joined a network of 24 chapters across North America dedicated to the overall advancement and achievement of South Asian professionals. The primary focus of NetIP is to foster a bond among South Asian professionals to unite and support each other locally, as well as give back and contribute positively to the communities in which we live and work. In its’ first year of revival, NetIP Austin delivered on this promise by hosting more than 30 events which provided our membership with opportunities for networking and giving back to the greater Austin community.

As part of Dinner Circle, NetIP Austin also hosted a picnic at Zilker Park while members enjoyed a production of Shakespeare in the Park. To close out the year, NetIP Austin hosted Politics and Pizza, where members came together to exchange thoughts on healthcare reform.
This year, NetIP Austin launched Third Thirsty Thursdays Networking Mixers. 15-20 (and growing) mingled while enjoying their favorite drink. NetIP Austin also hosted a Game Watching Mixer at a new local sports bar.
NetIP Austin also enjoyed a NetIP Texas Boat Party on Lake Austin with our sister chapters – NetIP Houston and NetIP Dallas.
Cultural Awareness:
Book Club
NetIP Austin invited members to review the book “Saffron Dreams,” written by local Pakistani American author, Shaila Abdullah. Ms. Abdullah was on hand for a Q & A and book signing.
Bollywood Trivia Night
With all the attention on Bollywood this year, NetIP Austin invited all Bollywood enthusiasts, along with those wanting to understand the hype! This was a very successful family friendly event that drew a crowd of more than 20. Thanks to Eva B’s Bakery & Café (2407 A South Congress Avenue) for catering.
Professional Development
NetIP Austin hosted two panel discussions around professional Development including “Is Graduate School Right for You” and “Job Hunting: Want to Get Linked In?”
Community Service
NetIP Austin rallied members and others to join us in giving back to the greater Austin community through fundraising and giving our time to the following local nonprofit organizations.
Saheli for Asian Families, NetIP Austin raised $250 In-Kind Donations

Capital Area Food Bank, NetIP volunteers helped process 7,140 pounds of food, which equals 5,712 meals. Later in the year, NetIP conducted a donation drive and collected over 60 non-perishalbe food items for families in need this holiday season. http://www.capitalareafoodbank.org/
Sustainable Food Center, Festival Beach Community Garden
NetIP Austin recruited 35 volunteers to take part in a National Day of Service in honor of Mahatma Gandhi. Volunteers got their hands dirty to help transform an underutilized lot to become a food-producing plot for Austin’s low-income East Cesar Chavez neighborhood residents.

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Travis County
Members supported an organization that advocates for abused and neglected children through participation in a 5K walk/run. www.casatravis.org
Tree Folks
NetIP Austin recruited 30 volunteers from the community to help plant trees in Pease Park in honor of veterans. www.treefolks.org
