The North Carolina State Fair is fast approaching us and I wanted to outline some important events and activities that will be going on during this week as well as remind you of the entry deadlines.
The dates are October 15-25, 2009. The State Fair theme is: “A Whole Lotta Happy”. You can find the NC State Fair Website here:

State 4-H Council Conference will be held on November 21-22, 2009 at the North Raleigh Hilton. Registration deadline is November 2nd. We will require online registration however, the online site is not up and running yet. We will notify you when it's up and running.
Workshops will be very much on the same lines as last year as far as offering Ambassador and State Project focused workshops. Some workshops will focus on our theme; however, the majority of the workshops will be leadership workshops in an effort to make State Council Conference more of a teen leadership conference. The slogan this year is We Are 4-H.
Again this year we are offering the opportunity for your Ambassadors to participate in "Ambassador" workshops on Saturday. We will offer workshops for those ambassadors who are interested on Saturday from 10 am - 12 Noon. This will be at the same time as the District and State Officer meeting. Ambassadors who would like to sign up for workshops should do so by choosing the Ambassador Training button on the registration page once it is up. This will give me an idea of who is coming to those workshops. All other workshops will be on a first come first serve basis at the Conference.
Thanks and let us know if you have any questions!

In 2009, N.C. 4-H Youth Development will celebrate its centennial as North Carolina's premier youth development organization. Reflecting on its historic vision, 4-H is commemorating this event through a variety of local and state initiatives that bring together our state's youth, youth leaders, parents, volunteers, elected officials and communities to create new and innovative 21st century youth development strategies for the future. Since 1909, North Carolina's youth have been given opportunities to become positive, productive, contributing citizens in their communities through the largest youth organization in the world known as 4-H. North Carolina 4-H is the k-12 educational outreach program of NC State University and NC A&T State University and is part of the National 4-H organization. N.C. 4-H welcomes you to get a glimpse of what 4-H is all about. Starting in 2008, more than 208,000 North Carolina youth along with more than 20,000 volunteers will celebrate the N.C. 4-H Centennial Anniversary. Take time to participate in an upcoming event or attend any of the various local centennial celebration activities to connect or reconnect with other youth and adults and learn more about what 4-H has to offer. As we look to the future, we see 4-H as an organization that seeks to provide individualism to North Carolina's youth as well as provide educational programs that teach life skills. N.C. 4-H programs focus on the areas of workforce development and entrepreneurship, science, technology, engineering and math, healthy lifestyles, citizenship and leadership.

partner with 4-H in helping to acquaint youth in third through fifth grade with ballet. This supports both our Communications and Expressive Arts Curriculum Area as well as our Healthy Lifestyle initiative.
In their school program (Dancers in Schools), they accommodate groups of 100-150 students for 50 minutes and will do 3 per day.
They would like to offer this same situation to 4-H but they are willing to negotiate a larger block of time and a smaller group size. Laurie also indicated that some Saturdays might be possible and that the youth will be actively engaged.
Currently the weeks they have available are December 7-11, January 11-15, and March 8-12. If you wish to schedule a time for your county
The 4-H Program at NCA&TSU, with the help of the Walmart Foundation and National 4-H Council is working to assemble the “4-H Force of 100” youth, ages 13-16, who will be trained to help their community and state fight health issues like diabetes, obesity, strokes and heart disease in the minority community. It is our hope that a cadre of trained youth can help in the resolution of these problems.
If you work with minority youth in 4-H and other community efforts consider sending a team that can return and do programs in their community to address these issues.
Information about the project can be found at: http://www.ag.ncat.edu/extension/ForceOf100/index.html
