We will be closed from Thursday - Monday, October 22nd through the 26th and REOPEN in the new shelter on TUESDAY, OCTOBER 27th!!!

There are big changes since last week -  getting ready to move and can't wait! 

Some of the cat cages are in place and many of the rooms are painted.  You can really appreciate how much planning went into the actual physical building, it's beautiful!!

Things are really taking shape and in these photos you can already view some of the color scheme for the interior.

The last few weeks have seen much progress in the shelter construction.  The dog kennels are sporting the walls between kennels (higher and farther apart then the ones at the old shelter). There are windows installed, and duct work on the interior.  Some of the floors are finished. The interior brick work is being grouted. The exterior brick wainscoting is moving along. It's really taking shape!

Things are moving right along with the roof finished (including skylights!)  Most of the floors have been poured and set and if you look closely you can see a night visitor tracking dust across the floor!  Insulation is going in the ceilings and windows are in place! 

In the past week we started seeing walls going up at the new shelter!  There was also plumbing work done, and more roof work and plumbing and digging and pouring concrete.  Now that warmer weather is here things are moving right along!

A new photo was added on this cold day in March. The roof on the new shelter is being built! it's very exciting to see the progress. We hope that spring will bring some warmer days and allow the workers to continue to remain on schedule. Check back for more updates!

Some of you may have seen the story on Channel 7 News. Our own Finance Director, Carolyn Raschke, was surprised to find a cat under her hood after leaving HSHV and taking a 17-mile expressway ride home.

Luckily the Raschke family was able to resuce the female cat and bring her to HSHV to be cared for. It appears she may have been dropped off in the HSHV parking lot took refuge under Carolyn's car for warmth.

The cat, named Traveler, was adopted on 1-18-09 by a wonderful couple that will give her a loving home - warm and safe!
