Aa Is For Apple
We will be learning a lot about apples this week as we study the letter Aa and the sounds it makes. On Friday we will make applesauce and then write about what we did. If you are able, please send one apple (any variety will work) to school with your child on or before Thursday, November 19. Thank you for your help!!
Chaffee Trail Carnival
Thanks so much to all of you who have donated candy and cash for the Fall Carnival, we should have a great booth. Mrs. Brennan and Mrs. Long have joined forces to come up with great decorations.
It's not too late to volunteer to man the booth, help set up, or send in candy/cash. I hope to see you Friday night for good times, good food and lots of FUN!
Book Character Parade
Chaffee Trail will hold it's 3rd annual Book Character Parade on Friday, October 30, at 9AM. Remember to send the blue permission slip to school with your child on or before Friday if your child is going to participate. Students participating need to come to school in costume and with their book. Please send a change of clothes for after the parade.
Zoo Field Trip
Don't forget...our field trip to the Zoo will be Thursday, October 29th. Your child's lunch is included in the price of the trip, so there will be no need to send lunches or lunch $ on Thursday.
Teddy Bear Day
Teddy Bear Day was a lot of fun. I'm happy to report that all the visiting bears were able to follow the class rules and worked hard all day. Click on the pictures tab and view the photos in the October album to see a few pictures of the things the bears did today!
Lots Going On!
We had a great time on the field trip-be sure to check out the new photos under the pictures tab. We also helped to set a world record today as Kindergarten students all over the world were read the book,
The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle.
Permission slips for our next field trip, October 29 to The Jacksonville Zoological Gardens, will go home on Monday, October 12.
Parent Literacy Night will be held October 19 at 6:30 pm. Come learn some new strategies to use at home with your child, as you help them learn to read and write. We hope to see you there!
Show and Tell
Show and Tell will start Friday, October 2. Your child may bring one item, beginning with the sound the letter of the week makes, to share with the class. The item brought in will remain in your child's backpack until it is their turn to give the class clues about what they have brought. Please help your child think of some clues at home so they are prepared when it is their turn to share. Turning Show and Tell into a guessing game makes it even more fun! This weeks letter is Ss.
Flag Raising
Check out the new pictures from our 1st Flag Raising under the pictures tab. Mrs. Walker challenged the students to read 75,000 books this year. The students agreed to do it, but only if Mrs. Walker will get buried up to her neck in sand when they complete the challenge!! (Note the surprised look on Mrs. Walker's face!)
Flag Raising and Reading Kick Off
Please join us for our first Flag Raising and our Reading Kick Off on Tuesday, September 15th at 8:30 a.m. Mrs. Walker will issue this years reading challenge to the students with a promise of what she will do if they meet her challenge. We'd love for you to join us around the flagpole-hope to see you there!
Open House
Thanks to all of you who came to Open House. I hope you found it to be informative and enjoyed seeing what your child has been up to. I know it's hard to add one more thing to your "To Do List" and I truly appreciate your effort to support your child, and let him/her know their education is important to you. I look forward to a great year!
Our First Week
WOW! What a week! This first week of school we have been busy establishing rituals and routines. The children are learning quickly about "bringing 5 to the floor", unpacking their backpack in the morning and packing it up again in the afternoon, things good readers and listeners do, how to use the math manipulatives, the "Letter/Sound song", how to conduct a fire drill, The Pledge of Allegiance and many other things. Now you know why your child comes home so tired!
