Congratulations are in order for the Norristown contingent that wrestled in Hershey this weekend in the PIAA state wrestling championships. Of the four wrestlers that went, three brought home medals.
Zach Fuentes, 103 lbs. After dropping a tough preliminary round match, stormed back through the consolations to wrestle for 3rd/4th. Unfortunately he faced Canan MacMillan's Colt Shorts and lost another tough match to take a very respectable 4th place.
Brett Harner, 152 lbs. Brett took the same road as Zach Fuentes. He lost a tough opening round match, and then wrestled all the way back through the consolation rounds to take a 4th place medal. Along the way he avenged his preliminary round loss to Geno Morelli, by beating him 7-4 in the 4th Consolation round. Harner faced a tough foe in Lorenzo Thomas from Pittsburgh Central Catholic in the 3rd/4th place finals. Harner improved upon last year's 8th place finish this year taking 4th. Sunday's Times Herald features a story on Brett:
Gavin Queenan, HWT. Gavin lost his preliminary round match to eventual finalist and 2nd place winner, Dawson Peck, and then won his first 2 consolation matches before dropping his 3rd consolation round match to wrestle off for 7th/8th. Gaving pinned Ryan Geiger of LaSalle in 23 seconds in his final match to take 7th place.
Brandon Parker, 145 lbs. Brandon won his preliminary round and unfortunately just missed the podium by losing 2 in a row to Trey Duncan of Spring Grove and Garret Peppelman of Central Dauphin. Although Brandon didnt medal, qualifying for this tournament winning a match here is an accomplishment in itself.

Overall, Norristown took 12th place with 37 team points. Again, congratulations to Norristown for a great season and a very successful and memorable post-season. Its going to be a long off-season as we wait for the 2011-12 season to start.
Brandon Parker wins preliminary round match and advances to face Trey Duncan of Spring Grove in the quarterfinals.
Zach Fuentes, Brett Harner and Gavin Queenan all lost their first matches, however all 3 won their first consolation round matches to stay in it.
Quarterfinals start Friday at 1pm and the 2nd round consolation matches start at 2:45pm.
