**First Aid

first aid kit (big on ibuprofin, stuff for upset stomach, stuff for bug bites, and stuff to clean and fix cuts)
mosquito repellent (rarely needed in late August)
water treatment pills (I find filters tiresome so bring iodine)

**Navigation and Misc
map + waterproof map case
3 bungie cords
3 dry bags (1 sleeping bags, 1 emergency clothes, 1 daily clothes + books)
1 medium duffle bag. Quick dry. For tossing misc into so no small stuff laying in canoe.
1 bucket (or bear bin) for bread and other stuff we don't want squished.
binoculars
GPS (not usually needed but provides answer to "how much longer?!")
parachute cord (about 50 ft + 5 four ft pieces)
2 flashlights
extra batteries for camera and flashlights
4 internal frame backpacks (for trips with portaging.  We pack the dry bags in the backpacks)
1 bent-shaft and 1 straight shaft paddle for each adult; bent shaft is for smooth water and straight shaft is for rough water where lots of bracing/drawing is necessary.

**Food -- We don't do anything special and we are famous for eating spartan on the trail. I head to the grocery store and pick up the following:
Pasta, rice and cous cous for dinners (sauces: chick noodle soup, tomato sauce packet, cheese, butter) (2 cups per person per night)
hotdogs for night #1
soup or mash potatoes for dinner appetizers (1 cup per person)
Bread + cheese + condiments and PB&J for lunches (1 sandwich per day per person; We take regular sliced bread and stick it in the bucket to keep it from getting squashed.)
Oatmeal + musli + yogurt (tubes work well) for breakfast (1 cup per person per morning)
hot chocolate and tea (2 cups per person per day; morning and night)
fruit (1/4 apple or orange per day per person)
treats (bars, nuts, candy) (1/2 cup per day per person)
Tang (or something similar) to put in water (since we use iodine)
1 extra 1L soup packet for every 3 days (after day 3, I start making soup at lunch with any leftover pasta/cous-cous/rice)
Bulky packaging removed prior departure and food packed in light-weight dry bags (they are just like stuff sacks).
