What a beautiful day! The sun finally came out and although it was muddy outside the course inside was great.  Saddlebrook is such a great facility and Courses by Design always manages to keep things different with great course design and beautiful jumps.  We started the day with the Low Hunter Division, Pam was extremely brave and brought Rion to get some show mileage.  Once in the ring he buckled down to  his job and did very well for a first timer.  Marissa showed Rosie and they brought home the Champion ribbon.  Rosie looked like an old hand at all of this - great job Marissa - you made it look easy!  Next Bridget showed Ruby in the Pony Hunter Division against some very made Childrens Ponies and brought home the Champion ribbon.  In Schooling Hunter Morgan rode Chloe and Em rode Arnie, both did pretty well. But not to be outdone Sierra showed Jaden and cleaned up bringing home Champion.  Morgan then jumped on Red and showed him in Pre-Childrens Hunter - actually getting a 1st place in the 3rd class! It was a great job considering Red doesn't seem to know (or care) about changing leads at the canter.   Marissa showed Austin as well in Pre-Childrens and placed pretty well too.   At the last minute they needed someone to fill out the Marshall & Sterling Bit 'O Straw so Morgan quickly tacked up Chloe and set out to give us the most spectacular crash and save of the season!  After that she put in 2 very nice rounds.  Nice save Morgan!  All in all a great day!  I was scribbling notes and the annoucements were very hard to hear so if I got anything wrong please email me and I will correct it.

 

Come one, come all!  For everyone that is home for Thanksgiving weekend here are a couple of things we have in the works.  Friday, Nov. 27th - the day after Thanksgiving - there will be a Birthday Party for Cathy Evans at BJ's Hedger House, 4265 Rt. 563, Chatsworth, NJ.  This is just the other side of RT 206 so pretty close to the barn.  Hours are 7pm-11pm and live music is provided by none other than The Don Evans Band.  Should be great fun.  Kids should be fine for the first set from 7pm-8pm as long as you order food.  They offer burgers, etc. and have a nice selection of beers and cocktails. Go to www.donevansband.com and click on calendar, find Nov. 27th and click on the BJ's Hedger House link to see a menu.

On Sunday, Nov. 29th at 11am we will be having a trail ride from the barn through the woods and to the pond.  Anyone with their own horse wanting to join is welcome, trailer in if you like.  If will only be about 2 hours so those that have to hit the road to get back to school should still be able to join us. Make sure to wear something brightly colored and we will provide bells for all riders.  If you would like to ride a school horse let Chrissy know - she will try to assign the appropriate horse to rider - however due to liability issues on the school horses we can only allow adults for those horses. Lessons will be as usual on Saturday - if you are just home for the holiday and want a lesson give Chrissy a call to see what time would be best.

Don't forget there is a Mark Leone clinic across the street at Hidden Sun on Saturday - various levels of jumping will be addressed.  See Chrissy for details. Cost is $100 .  Also don't forget we have a show on Sunday at Saddlebrook Ridge Equestrian Center just over on Grassy Lake Road.  A beautiful indoor arena with an attached heated viewing room - for all the parents and grandparents that don't like to stand out in the dust and cold this is a fantastic show to attend! 

Monday the 9th was Tracey's birthday - anyone that sees her this week make sure to say Happy Birthday. Her volunteer work at the barn never stops - we couldn't do it all without her!  Pictures posted show what happens when you drink a margahrita big enough to swim in....it causes you to be forced to wear a HUGE blue hat!

Saturday the 7th both Taegan and Marissa went to the Woodedge "A" rated show at the Horse Park of New Jersey.  It was an extremely long day - what should have been a before noon start turned out to be more like almost dark start time.  Both Austin and Louis V hung in there and made a nice few rounds.  Marissa even managed a 4th on the flat against some of the really big high dollar boys so she and Austin should be proud.  This is the last rated show for Woodedge this year.  The winter season shows are schooling shows and a bit less expensive so if anyone is interested the schedule is posted on the board.  Again, great job girls for making the best of a very long, very chilly day.

Taking advantage of being out of school and perfect weather a small group went for a trail ride on Thursday.  Bridget rode Ruby and Taegen rode Louis V, both out on the trail for the first time.  What a couple of troopers!  Both ponies were awesome and took to the trail like they had been at it all their life.  A great time was had by all.  Planning on a larger group riding out from the barn on Thanksgiving weekend on Sat. or Sun.  watch here and the bulletin board for specific date and time.

WooHoo! We got the final results for the Chesterfield Series. Let's start with Bridget who, in her first year of showing in the Pre-Childrens Pony Division got the Reserve Champion!  She rode against made ponies and much older riders and simply ROCKED!  Way to go Bridget! Melissa rode Madison to the Reserve Champion in Schooling Hunters, not an easy win either, against some pretty pro riders.  And Pam rode Luke to the Reserve Champion in the Childrens Hunter Horse Division.  A fantastic job in a very tough division.  Both Melissa and Pam will have their hands full in the coming season with Beemer and Orion. BTW we understand Luke is available for half-lease if anyone is interested.  He is a wonderful horse and has no problem with the 3' Childrens Hunter Division. He is just down the road at Pam's and Chrissy goes down there for lessons. We look forward to the Chesterfield Series year end banquet on November 29th - Sun. of T-giving weekend.  You must order you tickets in advance - Chrissy has order forms.

We have 2 shows coming up quickly. There is a "A" rated Woodedge show at the Horse Park of New Jersey on Nov. 4-8th.  Then the Saddlebrook Winter Series starts with the first show on Nov. 15th.  This will be the first year we have winter non-rated local shows that are easy to attend, hopefully it will keep us on our toes during the long cold season. 

Some more changes around the  barn this week.  Cathy & Dylan Howard have left taking Kiana and Buster.  The stalls stayed empty for about 1/2 day during cleaning and then Beemer, Melissa Morgans new horse moved in.  Poor Beemer has been putting up with standing in the rain for a few days waiting to move in - is he ever happy! 

Chesterfield Farm results for Sunday Oct. 25th.  It was a good day all around for the last show of the season.  Lots of horses showed up as it was a double point show.  The Oakshade Team held their own though and it looks like we may bring home a few Reserve Championships for the season.  Bridget started the day off and although had some really tough competition she did well.  She even pinned FIRST in the 3rd class !  She got Reserve Champ for the day in Pre-Childrens Pony Hunter.  Morgan did pretty well in Pre-Childrens Hunter Horse and Melissa and Madison had the best rides so far - sometimes it takes getting a new horse to make you appreciate the ride you had.  Pam didn't pin great in Childrens Hunters but it was a big class and overall she got enough points to secure Reserve Champ for the year.

Oh, my gosh!  Melissa Morgan bought a horse!  He is a beautiful rescued T-bred via the SJTR folks where we got Brody.  Not sure of a name yet but a few being tossed around - "Why Not" for a show name , maybe, ask Melissa about that one. But he is a doll with a great personality and apparently knows he way over a jump too!  Best of luck to Melissa.

Chesterfield Farm results - overall pretty good, although we didn't fare well in the Invitational.  It was the end of a VERY long day for both Bailey & Luke and neither was interested in tackling a spooky course.  But otherwise a pretty good showng.  Marissa & Rosie in Baby Greens did a very nice job, although they didn't pin well.  Bridget did pretty good in the Pre-Childrens Pony division and Morgan did great in Pre-Childrens Hunter Horse.  Jill and Bailey did well too in Schooling Hunters so he must be forgiven for the Invitational "performance".  Melissa and Madison did pretty well too.  Pam cleaned up in Childrens Hunters, again Luke must be forgivien for his refusal to cooperate.  Thanks to all the friends and family that came out to support us, without you guys it wouldnt be half as much fun. We do so like to show off!  Thanks to Maria for covering Saturdays lessons while we were showing.

Not a bad day considering it rained most of the morning.  We started off in Baby Greens with Morgan on Red and Marissa on Rosie.  There were 12 horses in the Baby Greens! Red only managed a 4th & 6th and didn't pin on the flat.  Rosie got a 5th on the flat, plus a 5th and a 1st! Yes, you read that right, FIRST out of 12 ! Way to go Rosie & Marissa!  Morgan went again right away in the Pre-Childrens Hunter Horse with Chloe and got a 5th, 4th, 5th and 3rd on the flat.  Not to be outdone by the big girls Bridget went in the Pre-Childrens Hunter Pony Division and got a 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 1st on the flat.  That brought home the Reserve Champion ribbon.  Good job Bridget.  In Schooling Hunters Melissa showed Madison and Jill showed Bailey.  Melissa got a 5th, 5th, 3rd and 3rd on the flat.  Jill had Bailey in the groove and got a 2nd, 1st, 2nd and 1st on the flat to bring home the Championship ribbon.  Morgan was still not done as she brought Boo along for the Childrens Hunter Pony Division and got a 3rd, 3rd, 2nd and 2nd on the flat for the Reserve Champion in that Division.  You rock Morgan!  Pam finished up the morning with Luke in the Childrens Hunter Horses getting a 2nd, 1st, 1st, & 3rd on the flat for the Championship ribbon in that Division.  All in all we made a pretty good showing.  Oh yeah, and Chrissy got the leading trainer award for the morning classes too!

A few pics from Friday and Saturday around the barn.  Shelby looks great on Chiclet - rode some off the lead line too!  Dylan and Mom seen together in the ring - quite a nice pair.  Madison, Bailey , Rosie  and Red getting jumped in prep for Sundays show.  All show signs of a bit of a sore neck from fall shots but should be in great shape come Sunday.  Stephanie did her best to keep Jaden going, he was super lazy.  We hope to see Stephanie in the Halloween Horse Show.  Check the bulletin board, Ashley has put up order forms for a benefit she is doing called "Scrub for the Cure".

Cathy Evans is back from Nevada - a few pics are posted - if anyone has a more expensive hobby than foxhunting and racing airplanes, please don't tell her about them.

Some folks went to The Meadow last Sunday - don't have all the results but we understand Bridget had a "face first" into a jump standard.  

We made a decent showing at Chesterfield Farm on Saturday 12Sep.  The weather was wet and overcast.  Marissa started the day showing Rosie in the Baby Green and did a fantastic job.  She got 3rd, 2nd, 3rd and 3rd on the flat but Rosie did not refuse anything, she was just up against better horses.  Her transitions on the flat were beautiful!  Pretty good for a green horse that has only been out a few times.  Next Bridget showed in the Pre-Childrens Hunter Pony Division with Ruby.  Again no refusals, a few tight spots but well ridden.  She got a 6th, 2-5ths and 4th on the flat.  There were a couple of ponies that just couldn't be beat.  Morgan, still a bit under the weather, showed Chloe in the Pre-Childrens Hunter Horse Division.  Chloe was a bit rowdy but nowhere near as rowdy as we know she can be....but again better horses in the competition.  She got a 5th, 2-6ths and 6th on the flat.  Chrissy jumped up and schooled Madison, just to make sure he got the "behave" message.  Then Melissa showed him in the Schooling Hunters and got two 2nd's, a 3rd and 3rd on the flat.  Pam finished up the morning showing Luke in Childrens Hunter.  She got a 4th & 6th - had to withdraw on the 2nd course as Luke decided that something in that 2nd diagonal fence was out to eat him.  Steven showed up to cheer Bridget on, only to be told by Bridget "ya gotta get here earlier Daddy".  She is no longer in the kids class - she is riding with the Big Dogs now!  Go Bridget, Go Bridget!

 

 

 

 

 

Unfortunately there wasn't a camera around on Thurs evening when Pam came over with Orion for a lesson.  What a stunning boy! He moves beautifully.  With a bit of work he will soon be raking in the ribbons.  Marissa rode Rosie in the lesson and had quite a few beautiful fences too.  Let's all remember that it is not always money that gets the "perfect" horse but hard work and dedication. Here are a few pictures from Wednesdays Adult Beginner lesson, as well as a few pics of "Chiclet" and "Brody". And note that we have the best pastures around - can you believe the size of this mushroom? Most everyone is back to school and it will be a busy week.  If you can't make your lesson time call or text Chrissy so she can better schedule lesson horses.  Our newest addition to the Oakshade Family is "Chiclet" an adorable dun mare standing 14.2 hands.  She has a great personality and should make a fantasic lesson horse.  Note, we now have a video section. We will try to post a good round from each show we attend.  Cathy has started posting some of her video on YouTube - if you search "Oakshde Stables" they should come up. Chrissy and Madison showed at the rated Woodedge show Friday and brought home the Champion ribbon in the Pre-Green Hunters.  Madison was awesome!  Marissa showed Austin on Saturday and did pretty well for her first rated show.  No refusals, a great performance. She pinned 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th. Way to go Marissa! 

Mmmmm...where to start....well it wasn't a standout day for us, with the exception of Dylan & Buster.  Morgan showed Red in the Baby Green division and although he behaved and jumped everything they only managed a 3rd, two 4ths over fences.  In Pre-Childrens we had Morgan & Chloe and Jenny & Louie.  Morgan did pretty well overall.  Jenny got the patented Louie "instant stop" treatment  on the first round so she had a short visit with the dirt. Her 2nd & 3rd rounds were much better but she didn't pin too well.  Bridget showed Ruby in the Pre-Childrens Pony division and despite good riding just couldn't get her to settle down.  After a few too many refusals she withdrew.  Melissa tried to show Madison in the Schooling Hunters but she wasn't able to go from schooling to the course right away - as a result she had refusals as well and a nice spook & dump.  Both Melissa and Jenny are sure to make the Bloopers reel for the Christmas party.  Dylan redeemed us all by showing up for the afternoon Mini-Stirrup Division and bringing home the Grand Champion ribbon. He took 2nd, 1st, & 1st in the figure 8! Way to go Dylan, we sure needed the win. At this rate he may be the year end Champ for that division! We are proud of everyone of our competitors today - despite our poor performance everyone was a good sport.  Have fun! That's what it's all about.  Our next Chesterfield show is Sept 12th, this one is a Saturday show.

Things have been busy around the barn, despite the heat.  Shortly after the Saddlebrook show Nicki Lopez decided to leave and move Romeo somewhere else. That left an available stall and an opportunity to be a Good Samaritan.  Oakshade Stables has adopted an off-the-track T-bred from New Jersey Thoroughbred Rescue.  Chrissy is working with him and will probably put him up for sale after some basic training.  Keep in mind that Chrissy's "basic training" usually nets the horse huge ribbons and Championships.  His barn name is "Brody" and he is at least 16.2 hands and a beautiful chestnut.  He came to us pretty bony but is already starting to fill out.  Remember we have a show at Chesterfield Farm on Sunday Aug 30th.  If you don't already have your name on the list let Chrissy know ASAP so she can arrange trailering.

Boy do we rock!  First of all many thanks to all who came out and showed their support on a brutally hot day. Parents and friends alike cheered us on, Dylans Dad even made it out to see him compete. We hardly know where to start as we cleaned up again and made Oakshade Stables the talk of the town.  Brit started the day showing Jewel in the Jumper classes - something she hasn't done in some time - and still managed a 2nd place finish.  We moved inside for the Hunter classes and started off with Pam on Luke and Nicki on Romeo in the Childrens Hunter Division.  Nicki got 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 2nd on the flat for Reserve Champion.  Pam got 3rd, 3rd, 1st & 3rd on the flat but won the overall Reserve Champion for the Summer Series.  Next up was the Schooling Hunter Division with Melissa on Madison, Nicki on Romeo & Brit on Jewel.  Jewel changed gears nicely but only managed 3rds over fences but got 1st on the flat.  Melissa got 2nd, 2nd & 1st and 3rd on the flat for Reserve Champion.  Nicki got 1st, 1st, 2nd and 2nd on the flat for Champion plus the overall Grand Champion in the Summer Series.  Next was the Pre-Childrens Division with Jenny on Louie, Marissa on Austin & Morgan on Chloe.  Marissa got 2nd, 2nd, 3rd and 1st on the flat for the Reserve Champion.  Morgan got all 1sts in her over fences and 3rd on the flat for the Champion ribbon, plus the overall Reserve Champion in the Summer Series.  Jenny got 3rd, 3rd, 2nd and 2nd on the flat but that gave her enough points to bring home he overall Grand Champion in the Summer Series.  In the Green Hunter Morgan showed Red, Nicki showed Dakota, Sierra showed Jaden & Alexis showed Love Me Do.  Alexis got 4th, 4th, 5th and 4th on the flat.  Nicki got 2nd, 3rd, 3rd and 5th on the flat.  Sierra got 1st, 2nd, 4th and 2nd on the flat for the Reserve Champion.  Morgan got 3rd, 1st, 2nd and 3rd on the flat for the Champion plus the overall Grand Champion for the Summer Series.  Not to be outdone by the big guys Bridget showed Ruby in Short Stirrup and got 2nd, 1st, 1st, 1st for the Champion plus overall Grand Champion.  Then Dylan showed Buster in the Walk/Trot and got 1st, 1st, 3rd, 2nd for Reserve plus the overall Reserve Champion for the Summer Series.  All in all a great day for everyone.

If you look close at the new pictures you will see Oakshade Stables lastest aquisition.  Chissy has rescued a T-bred which she has named "Brody".  He will be in his own area for a few weeks getting him adjusted before he heads out to the pasture with the regulars.  He is really skinny right now but he is going to be a big boy eventually.  Say hello and give him a pet when you come for your next lesson.  There are a few new pics up from some lessons this week.  Look for some new pics from the Saddlebrook show this coming Sunday.  If you can come out and cheer the team on that would be great.  There will be loads of us there and we can always use the support.  Show grounds are at the Saddlebrook Ridge Equestrian Center located just off Grassy Lake Road (accessed from either Stokes Rd. or Atsion Rd. on the way to our barn)  We only have 1 person in the jumpers in the morning, the rest of us will be in the hunter classes later on in the day.

OAKSHADE STABLES ROCKS !!!  What a fantastic day we had - Chrissy is so proud of everyone.  Let's start with the Special Hunter Division.  Lauren started off showing Rosie, Jenny was on Louie and Marissa on Austin.  Rosie was the horse we know she can be (thanks Marissa for working with her when Lauren is busy) and she brought home ALL BLUES and the Champion ribbon as well.  Jenny did a great job with Louie, who actually cleared all the fences, and got all 2nd's and the Reserve Championship.  Austin put in some nice rounds and managed all 4ths - for some reason he just gets overlooked.  Next was the Pre-Childrens Division and a huge surprise for many who entered.  Bridget showed Ruby instead of doing Mini-Stirrup.  We knew this was coming but we didn't know she would clean up the first time out.  ALL BLUES and the Champion ribbon as well - you go girl!  Sierra and Jaden got 3rds and a 1st on the flat.  Jill showed Bailey and Melissa show Madison in Schooling Hunters. Bailey was really on today and showed us all what he is capable of doing when he pays attention.  All Blues and the Championship.  Madison got 3 - 3rds and 1 - 2nd for the Reserve.  Pam showed Luke in the Childrens Hunter and got 3 - 1st's and 1 -- 2nd for the Championship in that division.  All in all it was a fantastic day, I suspect the other barns will run for cover next time they see the Oakshade Stables trailer!

The second week of Summer Camp is off to a great start.  A smaller group this week with Tess, Isabella, Brielle , Olivia & Bridget.  Tess gets to ride Regal, Isabella on Shadow, Bri on Jaden and Liv on Riley.  All are being brave and learning new things.  Today was Around The World.

Well, it was a fantastic day! The weather was beautiful and Saddlebrook always puts on a nice show.  We started out with the Childrens/Adult Hunter at 3ft where Pam showed Luke.  She did a great job with three 1sts and a 2nd.  Then we moved to the Pre-Childrens where Morgan showed Chloe and got a 1st, 2nd, 4th and a 4th on the flat.  Marissa showed Austin and after schooling well he decided to refuse 3 times in the warm up round.  But they came back well, managing a 4th and then a 2nd plus a 3rd on the flat.  Jenny rode Louie and got the "Mean Machine" going pulling in a 2nd, 3rd, 2nd and a 3rd on the flat.  This was enough for the Reserve Champion in Pre-Childrens.  Way to go Jenny!  Next up we had the Schooling Hunters with Morgan on Riley, bringing home a 4th, 4th, 4th and a 3rd on the flat.  Nicki decided at the last minute to show Romeo and got a 1st and three 2nds.  Then we moved on to the Modified Green Hunter in which Alexis showed Love Me Do and got a 2nd, 1st, 3rd and 1st on the flat.  Morgan returned, this time on Red - also a last minute addition.  Much to Red's surprise she got a 1st, 3rd, 1st and 3rd on the flat.  This managed to give them the Champion!  Red showed his "babyness" by the flat class, being totally bored with the whole thing.  After a short break Bridget too Ruby in for the Mini-Stirrup class and made a clean sweep!  All blues and the Championship!  Dylan showed Buster in the Walk-Trot-GroundPoles class.  He got lots of 2nds but we guess no one told Buster you are supposed to TROT the ground poles - he took them at a CANTER!  Good piece of riding Dylan!  We are so proud of all our riders and mounts.

We had quite a full 1230p lesson on Wed.  Isabella returned for a lesson on Shadow and despite a long break seems to be doing well with her posting.  Keep up the good work Isabella. Dylan Glassman took a lesson on Wed. on both Buster and Shadow.  Dylan has been showing well in the mini-stirrup on Buster.  He is ready to move on to cantering on his own but this has been a bit difficult on Buster. Sooooo....today he rode Shadow at the canter WITHOUT holding on! And then turned around a jumped on Buster and cantered WITHOUT holding on!  Way to go Dylan! We will see you in the Short Stirrup sooner than you think.  Francine and Trish braved the heat  of the day and rode quite well on Regal and Louie.  Both are coming along great - maybe next summer we need to get Chrissy to do an Adult Summer Camp!  Morgan was kind enough to ride Red for Cathy and did a fantastic job.  She is so brave with him and he seems to love her.  They are tackling courses outside and Chrissy seems to think he will be ready to show soon!  Bailey got a workout with Marissa on the flat and behaved himself beautifully.  All in all a great lesson.  Don't forget we are showing at Saddlebrook this weekend, both Sat & Sun.

What a fantastic day! The weather was beautiful and all of our riders made Oakshade Stables proud!  Starting the day off in Beginning Rider were Lisa on Riley and Hannah on her new boy Justice.  Hannah should be so proud of her boy, first time in the ring and he came in 3rd and even did a beautiful round over the crossrails.  A fantastic showing for a green horse! Great job Hannah!  Lisa cleaned up with Riley, he was such a good boy and she look great.  Once the dust settled and she realized what happened she was Champion!  A great performance by both!  Bridget showed Ruby next in the Short Stirrup division and managed to keep her in line despite Ruby wanting to run away with her at every opportunity.   She cleaned up with almost all blues. And again brought home the Champion ribbon to add to her collection.  At noon we moved to the large grass field and started out with the Special Hunter Division. It was a large field of 12 and everyone did really well. Jenny rode Louie and got a 3rd on the flat.  After schooling beautifully earlier Louie decided it was time to throw in his usual refusals so she didn't pin well over fences.  However a little bird told us she will spend the coming week getting lessons in being a "Mean Machine" to Louie and will show next weekend at the Saddlebrook show. Cathy Howard and Kiana got a 3rd and 5th but had to scratch for the flat as Kiana was acting a bit colicy - after some water and a hose down she seemed to be ok.  Marissa showed Austin and got a 5th & a 4th then showed everyone what they are capable of doing a brought home the blue in the 3rd class!  Sierra and Jaden got a 3rd, 5th & 6th over fences and then brought home the blue on the flat!  Then Nicki showed Romeo in the Schooling Hunter and got a 4th, 2nd & 3rd.  It was another large field against some pretty fancy horses plus Romeo lost 3 of 4 shoes!  We had loads and loads of support from family and friends all day which was greatly appreciated.  Sierra was invited to join the PBF Hunter Stakes at the end of the day but there was just too much time to wait for just the one entry.  Maybe next time at the August show we will qualify more riders and make the long, long wait worthwhile.

Summer Camp is off to a great start with a group of 8 and everyone had a fantastic time.  There were crafts and games every day. And, of course, riding for everyone.  Now everyone has thier favorite school horse and has had a chance to get to know them a little better.  Lessons in grooming and tacking up plus general horse care were thrown in for good measure.  We have posted some pictures from Thursday and Friday and you can see there were some really happy campers!  Our next camp week starts July 20th and there are still a couple of slots open.  The camp for more advanced riders will be in August.

Don't forget we have a show on Sunday at Pinebridge.  All are welcome to cheer the team onward - it's just up Rte 206 a bit so stop by and support the barn.  If enough people are around n Saturday getting their horses ready for the show we wil order a pizza.  

Chissy is SO proud of everyone, there were some big classes and everyone pinned well against large fields.  Morgan and Melissa showed in the Pre-Childrens Hunter.  Morgan and Chloe brought home thier first Blue and took a 2nd in another class out of 9! Pretty awesome!  Melissa and Madison looked good but didn't pin that well.  Nicki showed Ruby in the Pre-Childrens Pony division and brought home Reserve Champion.  She then showed Romeo in Schooling Hunter and got 4th, 1st & 3rd PLUS 3rd in the hack out of 10! Another Reserve Champion!.  After a hugely long wait Dylan got to do Mini-Stirrup with Buster and got a blue in his first class!  He did a great job against older kids on made ponies and horses. Bridget did the Short Stirrup with Ruby and got a blue in her first class as well. 

The weather is not cooperating this week but we will continue to try and get new pictures and video for the website.  If we didnt get your lesson this week we will get it next. Cathy is going to be at all of the 6pm lessons this week and some of the 4pm's as well.  We will be shooting video as well as stills in an effort to update the main Oakshade Stables website.

If you are interested in being considered for website video dress a bit nicer than usual for the lesson - a polo and breeches or clean chaps is fine and spend a few minutes on horse and tack grooming as well.

We have had some changes in the last couple of weeks so here are the updates.  Clayton has been moved closer to Genna, the trek from Mullica Hill was just getting too time comsuming.  Genna is involved in lots of school activities and the extra time on the road was taking away from tim!e in the saddle.  We will miss them both but hopefully we can keep up via email - we understand she will try to show at the new Glouster County Show Grounds so we may still have to compete against Clayton sometimes.  Kira has moved Aztec , her family is planning on building their own barn and it just made sense.  We are sure we will see her at The Meadow and Chesterfield - a strong competitor in her division - we wish her luck!  Soooo....that left Madison by himself in the Big Boys field so Red moved in and seems to have accepted that Madison is the King of the Hill.  Susie is moving her mare over from Wendy's and Hannah is hoping to get one of the spots for her new horse, currently stabled at Kathy McBrides.  We are also looking to bring in another school horse "Zar" if there is still room after all the waitlist people decide.  So some new faces and horses - we will try to get pictures posted soon.

What an interesting day - started out cool, overcast, and misty - ended sunny, hot and humid. You gotta love this New Jersey weather.  Alexis showed her handsome grey "Love Me Do" in Baby Greens and brought home the Reserve Champion ribbon - way to go Alexis, he is coming along beautifully! Nicki showed the Lindeberry's new black pony as well and showed his training is coming along nicely.  The Pre-Childrens Divisions were combined so Kira and Aztec had to go up against the big dogs. Not to worry though, she held her own and rode fantastic taking home 3rd and 4ths in a very large field of horses. You have to watch them little kids, they sneak up on you!  Morgan showed Chloe in the Pre-Childrens and rode very well but didn't pin, we think perhaps the judge didn't like the way Chloe carried her head because everything else looked great.  Melissa showed Madison as well in Pre-Ch and finished up with a spook(the judge moved), a refusal and an off course - you can't win them all. Not wanting to end on that she showed Madison in the Schooling Hunters and, much to her Dad's excitement, she won Grand Champion!

Bridget showed Ruby in Short Stirrup - don't have results on that one yet.

We are all getting ready for the end of school and preparing for summer vacation. Make a note of the summer shows you want to attend and make sure your name is on the list.  Sign up for your summer camp week too.

Bailey and Red went for a trail ride on Wednesday, loads of fun once Bailey actually got on the trailer!

Keep in mind we will be at Chesterfield on Saturday and Woodedge on Sunday.

Bridget celebrated her First Communion on Saturday May 9th. Way to go Bridget!

Our sincere thanks go out to Tracy and Ashley for volunteering to help out at the barn. They have been a great help to Chrissy lately, mucking stalls, cleaning up, and all the general boring jobs around the barn.  They are doing this for the exercise! Go figure!

Riley got his gooey eye operated on and had a tumor removed. He is on the mend and should be back in stride for lessons soon.

Kira and her Mom showed at The Meadow on Mothers Day and really brought home the blues! Mom showed her beautiful mare "Dakota" in the model class and cleaned up. They hold top honors so far in the spring season.  Kira showed "Dakota" in Short Stirrup and got Champion and then showed "Aztec" in Childrens Hunter and got Reserve Champion. Way to go both of you!

It looks like we have finally gotten through all the rain and can now get down to serious work. We will be showing at Chesterfield Farm on Saturday May 16th and Woodedge on Sunday May 17th.

Cathy will be at both shows to video and will also do some still pictures at Woodedge.

If you plan on showing make sure your name is on the list so Chrissy can plan the day.  If you plan on using a school horse and/or if you need trailering let her know asap.

What a great day of showing! Unlike last time we had sunshine all day long - maybe even a little too much by the end.  Some pictures posted from the show - if you post them somewhere else make sure you credit Over The Fence Video.  In Pre-Childrens we had Melissa on Madison Blues and she did fairly well, managing a 3rd and 4th plus a 6th on the flat. Nicki got Romeo to behave and he managed a 6th over fences but pulled in 2nd on the flat.  Marissa and Austin were having a hard time, falling the first round then refusals in the second and thrid rounds.  Morgan had Chloe paying attention and did a fine job, but didn't manage to pin.  It was a large class again and everyone should be proud of thier performance.  In the Schooling Hunter Division Genna rode Clayton to a 2nd in the first class, then a 5th and 6th. But they did nab the blue on the flat!  Nicki rode Romeo again and pinned 5th, 4th and 2nd and took home 2nd on the flat.  Both did really well and they should be pleased.  Dylan rode Buster in the Mini-Stirrup Division and just plain cleaned up! He got the blue in every single class and brought home the Champion ribbon as well.  Bridget rode Ruby in the Short Stirrup and pinned 3rd in each of the first 3 classes and 4th in the last one.  Some days you just can't catch a break! But she looked awesome cantering Ruby around the course.  Those that ordered video it will be up front by Monday evening - some price adjustments were made due to falls, bad lighting, etc. for a few of you.

Some great new pictures up of Saturday lessons. The weather was fantastic! Note there is a picture in there of Chrissy training Red.  Anyone with a new horse, or a problem with a horse should consider taking advantage of Chrissy's training skills.  Not only can she train the rider she can do great job with your horse as well.  The money spent on training your horse is money you save in the show ring when your horse performs as expected! We will attempt to get pictures posted of as many students as possible this last 2 weeks of April as the lessons move outside. Those of you who have an indoor lesson on a rainy day we will try again in May. If you see a picture you like you can order it directly from Shutterfly. They have great products in addition to prints.  If you post a picture online try to remember to credit Over The Fence Video. 

A wet and cold day for everyone. We didn't do fantastic but we didn't stink either, here are some of the results.  All the classes were fairly large so even to pin last meant you might have still beat 6 or more horses! Alexis did Baby Greens, not sure of her exact pins (if any). In Pre-Childrens there were 12 riders and Morgan and Chloe did the best from our group, pinning in all 3 over fence classes and the flat. Nicki took a fall and Romeo didn't cooperate so no pins there. Both Jenny (on Louie) and Marissa (on Austin) improved with each round but never managed to pin.  Pam did Childrens Hunter with Luke and managed Reserve Champion.  Dylan did Mini-Stirrup and got some decent pins.  Bridget did Short Stirrup and managed a blue in the w/t/c class.  All in all a miserable day weather wise but by the next show April 26th it will be spring and we will be in better shape to bring home the blue.

There is a clinic scheduled for across the street at Hidden Sun Farm on April 16th  with Mark Leone.  He, and his brother Peter, have both performed in Show Jumping for some time.  The cost is $100 and if you want to improve your serious jumping this might be for you.  Check with Chrissy for details.

Cathy's new horse "My Red Convertible" aka "Red" arrived last Saturday. Everyone is in love with him already!  Chrissy is busy training him to "color inside the lines".  As a true field hunter he doesn't quite get the concept of going around in circles.

The dentist is coming to float all the horses teeth in 2 weeks.  Owners please make a check out for $65 to Butch Dase and leave it up front.  This is not optional - proper tooth care is vital to your horses health.  Butch does a great job but we need to have all the checks in hand ahead of time.

Latest news around the barn - Melissa Morgan has agreed to 1/2 lease Madison Blues for the upcoming show season.  What a great match! We expect that she will bring home the blues and Chrissy will have more than just a trainers reason to be proud.  Let's all wish her luck.  Jenny is looking to show Louie at Chesterfield Farm on April 11th. This will be her first big show, lets wish her good luck as well.  For all of us tried and true horse showers let's give the new folks all the help we can to learn the in's and out's of showing.  Chrissy won't always be right there to hold our hand,  so show them where to sign up and pay, where's the potty, where's the food, how soon to get your horse off.......etc, etc, etc.  We all help each other in our barn and that's what makes it so special - we cheer and clap even if they just beat our own horse!  

Some pics from Thursdays 6pm lesson, they were all flying! Here are some pictures from Wednesdays 6pm lesson.  We had a big group and rode outside despite the falling temps.  Melissa rode Madison for the first time and did very well. Lisa was on Jaden and her friend Morgan on Riley. Dylan on Buster, Tracy on Regal and Bri on Louie. Plus Cathy on Kiana and Genna on Clayton.  Everyone did well who rode new mounts.  Dylan is working hard with Buster, getting his diagonals down right and should show well this weekend.  Some folks are going to the Woodedge show on Sunday - if you can go out and watch and support them that would be great. It is an outside show and a chance of rain is expected. Be brave, support the team!

Bailey and Louie took a nice trail ride on Wed. too! They went down to the Atsion State Forest trailhead by the ranger station and rode out for about 1 1/2 hours.  It is nice to have a wide sand road to ride on but the down side is you do get cars occasionally, people heading to the creek, etc. And there is some private land that branches off from the trail as well.  Louie got a chance to show Bailey that water can be FUN! We are not sure that Bailey agrees yet.

What a great day, the sun came out and it warmed up a bit.  A good time was had by all.  Alexis and Morgan rode in the 2'6" division. Alexis got Champion on "Love Me Do" . Morgan got Chloe to behave by the 3rd round and pinned 2nd in that one.  Melissa and Morgan both did the Equitation at 2'6" - although Louie looked good Melissa didn't pin, go figure.  Morgan did well in both classes and got called back for the final 4 test!  Lisa, Bridget & Sarah all rode in the 2' division.   Lisa did pretty well pinning 4th, 2nd & 5th.  Bridget rode Ruby for the first time in an over fence division!  On one refusal Ruby spun her off and she hit hard but jumped up and went right back to it to finish the division.  Sarah did very well with Regal pinning 1st in 2 classes AND bringing home the Reserve Champion ribbon.  Bridget rode Ruby in the crossrails as well and took home a first and 2 seconds in the over fences plus 2nd in the under saddle. Melanie rode Riley in the crossrails division and got a 1st, 2nd & 4th.  Liv rode Regal in the Beginner Rider and captured Champion! She got 2 firsts in the walk/trot and a first in the ground pole class. Way to go Liv, you will be doing crossrails in no time.

Get ready for Sunday at Hidden Sun Farm - make sure your name is on the list!  Hidden Sun has the points from the Feb. 1st show posted on their website. They will continue to have shows during the season, some may be in our own outdoor arena! It's a great local show, let's keep supporting it.  It is a very inexpensive way to get great show experience. The plan is to have an awards dinner at the end of the year.

Welcome to Tracy, new to our lesson program. She is getting back into riding after being away from it for years. She rode Jaden Wednesday night and did a fine job.

Effective March 1st lesson rates will be increasing $5.  Group lessons will be $35, private $45.  This is still a fantastic bargin - considerably cheaper than any other trainer in the area. March will be the grace period if you forget and write your check for the wrong amount.  The cost of grain and hay continues to rise but board prices will remain the same for the time being. Horse owners remember spring shots will be scheduled for March including the Coggins test. Make sure you budget for the additional cost of the vet next month.  Lets all be thankful that Chrissy doesn't charge to schedule and stand for the vet.

Make a note of the March show dates listed on the right under "whats next". There is a sign up list on the tack room board.

Just a couple more weeks of winter and we will start to see the thaw.  Keep an eye on your horses feet during the muddy spring weather.  We have great pastures here but still if you don't pick their feet it is easy for thrush to get started.  If you are in doubt about how it looks (and smells!) just ask Chrissy.

 Ponies....we don't need no stinkin' ponies.....both Bridget and Dylan rode horses in Monday's lesson.  Dylan handled Kiana beautifully and Bridget jumped Jaden over everything in the indoor.  Both these guys will be bringing home the blues in the upcoming season on thier respective ponies but I'll bet it won't be long before they move to horses full time.

What a great day at the Hidden Sun Farm Show! The sun came out and it warmed up to the 40's , almost liveable for February.  Every one did well, no huge winners  but it was great experience. We had fantastic support from all the parents - most everyone stuck it out for the whole day cheering on the whole team. Melissa rode Riley to a Reserve Championship in the 2' Hunter Equitation.  Morgan managed to get Chloe to behave and jump several courses without pitching a fit.  Bridget rode Ruby despite Ruby's desire NOT to be ridden. If it had been anyone else they would have been dumped early on, but not Bridget! She stuck with her and got some nice courses from Ruby.   Mackenzie rode well despite the fact that Jaden backed off the trailer like a lunatic and stomped her foot big time! Jenny rode Louie for her first show and he was....well he was Louie...he did refuse a few things but she rode him well and got the first show jitters out of the way.  Erica, Hannah and Lisa all put in fantastic performances and we are looking forward to great things from them in the coming season.  Keep up the good work girls!  Some of us had on our Oakshade Stables jackets, some even had the Oakshade Stables saddle pads on.  We are starting to look like a real team here folks!  There are Oakshade saddle pads in and available for sale. Pick one up in the front tack room - they are only $40 - just leave the money or a check for $40 made out to Cathy Evans.  Personalized jackets are still available as well for $55, ask Chrissy for an order form.

Congratulations to Melissa Morgan for putting in a great round on Louie in Wednesdays lesson to finish up the video for her college application.  Good luck and Go Bulldogs! Anybody else getting ready for college next year that needs a video talk to Cathy - we have a barn deal that can't be beat! The latest pictures are from January lessons. I think I have most of the evening lessons done. I will try to get the rest of the Saturday riders done this week. Well it looks like we all made it though the holidays intact.  Seems Suzie had an especially nice Christmas as she got herself a new horse!  Pics will follow soon.  If anyone is interested in the Jan. shows at Woodedge touch base with Chrissy. The Saturday shows are tough as lessons have to be covered too but with enough interest she might be able to work it out.  Don't get too lazy during the cold January weather - the spring show season starts in March and if you, and your horse, don't stay in shape you will be scrambling come Feb. to tone it up. Whose turn is it to buy a bag of apple wafers? Please help us out here - lesson people as well as boarders - if you use the treats you should pitch in once a year, it's only $20 at Toll Booth or Allens and it keeps the bin full for all.

DO NOT RIDE OFF PROPERTY DEC 7th thru DEC 12th! This is Six Day Firearm season and it is sort of like a free for all with guns, IF IT MOVES, THEY SHOOT IT ! !
Hunting is not permitted on Sundays however you should always wear bright colors , wear bells if you can. Keep in mind that you should ride between 10am-2pm only, even on Sundays.
Fall Bow season is on until Dec. 31st

"Jewel" is available for half-lease.  She is a beautiful almost black T-bred who can jump the moon!  She is fast and needs a strong hand to keep her in check for the Hunter ring.  She can do jumper classes in the lower, non-rated shows, 3ft-3'6".  Great for a teen looking to jump everything and has the confidence to keep her in check.  If you are interested let Chrissy know and she can set up a try out.  1/2 lease is for 3 days a week, one of which must be a lesson.  Rate is $275 plus lesson cost.

Louie is available for  1/2 lease starting Dec. 1st.  Louie is not for the absolute beginner but can help you move up to crossrails, 2' or even 2'6" divisions.  He & Jenny took the Pre-Childrens Champion at the Saddlebrook Summer Series.  Lease terms are $275 for the month and get you 3 days a week (one day must be a lesson).  As a grey he takes a bit more time to get clean for a show but the result is well worth it. If you are interested you can try him out in a lesson , just let Chrissy know a day ahead of time.

Over The Fence Video is available for video and photography for the Saddlebrook Winter Series  shows.  If you order at least 2 shows the 3rd is free!  Cathy can do pictures or video of you and your horse anytime this winter but both video and still look better outside so if you want something special for the holidays book before the hard freeze. She can also do still photography at Oakshade of you and your horse.  This applies to students as well, she is happy to show you off on a school horse! We have order forms for the Oakshade Logo apparel.  There are very nice fleece lined jackets with the logo on one side and your name on the other.  Cost is $55 and well worth it - a very nice jacket.  Time to start your Xmas list ! We have added a full-zip hoodie as well as a long sleeve polo.  Check with Chrissy for order forms.

This is a great pair of nearly new Pytchley boots.  Ladies size 7 1/2 with a regular size calf - no zipper on the back so boot hooks might be in order.  They are in the tack room if you would like to try them on.  For pricing contact Marissa Earle.
