We did it!!!! President Obama, as of 1/20/09
What an experience!
The past year has been an amazing one. Having first seen Barack at the 2004 Democratic convention, then watching him eloquently declare his run for the '08 primary, and then witnessing his victory in the Iowa caucuses...there was no way we could stand on the sidelines for this one.
Knowing that Ohio might play a key role again this time, we became committed to Obama winning the primary and then, incredibly, the general election.
They can't criticize me for saying like they did Michelle Obama, but I truly am proud of my country. (And, BTW, I saw Condi Rice say the same thing, almost verbatim.) I never thought I'd see this in my lifetime, and to know that I contributed in some small way, it's very meaningful and rewarding.
The people I shared this experience with, whether it be friends in non-battleground states (shout out to CA and WA), my email buddies who were fighting just hard as we were in other toss-up states (including VA, FL, & NC), the MYBO friends I made who sent contributions to our effort in Ohio, or the great people who went door-to-door with me after a long day of teaching middle-schoolers....what a feeling! (Click here for a link to the Jefferson County, Ohio results. We only won by 50 votes, but it wouldn't have happened without our local volunteers.)
WE DID IT-----YES, WE DID!

Bidding farewell to our friends
The day after Election Day, we all headed down to say a last goodbye to our new friends at Obama headquarters. Although we are all ecstatic over the election results, it's sad to leave friends when you know you'll never see them again.
Becoming involved in the politics of your country is an honor we should all experience, at least once in a lifetime. As evidenced by the margin of victory in Jefferson County, we did make a difference.
Now it remains for us to support Barack in his effort to right the ship of state. A lot of damage has been done over these last 8 years, to the surprise of none of us. The sense of community created by this campaign is what is needed to set us back on a positive course.
Love & Peace

Two days to go!
We just got back from headquarters, dropping off our canvassing sheets. I expected it to be empty down there...it's almost 8 PM on a Sunday night and they've been there all day. It was hoppin'! I wish I had taken my camera. There was so much activity, I was shocked.
So, Dick's mission now is to get a local business to donate a 60 inch tv for Election Day. I'll let everyone know how that goes.
It's becoming nerve-wracking. Hard to believe the big day is so close.
Volunteer appreciation
There will be a volunteer appreciation event at headquarters on Tuesday evening, Oct. 28. That will be exactly one week before Election Day. Volunteers are urged to come. I'm going to take some photos and videos to publish on here so please come.
Saturday, Oct. 18.
After a long morning of canvassing, we took a break to attend the rally at the Steel Workers' Union Hall in Steubenville.
International president of the USW Leo Gerard and Pittsburgh Steeler owner Dan Rooney along with former Pittsburgh Steeler Edmund Nelson and Ohio Governor Ted Strickland joined forces in a “Steel Blitz for Barack” Bus Tour through southwestern Pennsylvania and southeastern Ohio.
All of them gave heartfelt, touching speeches that united the many union attendees and Obama volunteers from our local headquarters. It was inspirational to see the diversity of the group...a scene we hope will be replicated across the country after Obama is elected in less than 3 weeks.
Local coverage was given by the
Herald Star newspaper. I couldn't find a thing on WTOV. If anyone else can, let me know.
Steel Blitz for Barack Day
President Gerard and Dan Rooney along with former Pittsburgh Steelers, and elected officials have joined forces in a “Steel Blitz for Barack” Bus Tour through southwestern Pennsylvania and southeastern Ohio. We took a break from canvassing and went to the Steel Workers Union Hall to hear them speak. It was uplifting to see so many blue collar supporters in attendance and to hear the passionate encouragement of Dan Rooney, union president Gerard, and Ted Strickland.

Hi Jeanne. You should be fine. The site should be fine. I think. You can choose who can follow you/your site and who you will follow. The tweets you send out go out to everyone, but those following you and actually paying attention will have the best chance of seeing them. I am always forgetting to turn on my Twitter software and miss most of the tweets of the Twitter world at large, as well as the ones of those who I follow. It's a good way to let those of us who are members sign up to follow you/the site and receive notice of updates to the site.

I added a Twitter widget to this page. My curiosity was killing me about this Twitter phenomenon. I'm hoping it's not overtaken by preteens (myspace) and young adults (facebook). Thought my buddies might consider becoming a part of that community, if not already involved.

Barack visits Smithfield! This is an incredible video. I love it. I didn't take this one, but someone who was waiting to see Obama drive by en route to the farm rally did. To me, this is the essence of Obama's appeal. You have to watch it.
