Student Display Case
Hello Olson Volunteers -
We are looking for someone(s) to help us organize/coordinate the Student Display case. Last year we sent home via backpack mail a half sheet asking for students with collections. I have that half sheet, which can be used for reference. We also asked Lego Club last year to display some of their "creations."
We are open to new ides as well, so please share them. If you are interested in helping us organize this activity please email me back. We greatly appreciate your help.
Thank you,
Kristie Schallert

Time to submit your Box Tops! Are you ready?
The deadline for the first box tops collection is Tuesday, October 25th. You can also earn additional box tops for our school from Ford by watching videos at this website - www.forddrivesboxtops.com. Each video is less than 2 minutes and you will earn 5 box tops for watching one (limit of 25 box tops).
Safety Week - October 17th-21st
Dear Olson Community,
Next week (October 17th - 21st) the Olson staff and PTO will emphasize SAFETY at drop-off and pick-up. Principal Emmerich, the Olson staff and the PTO board have been hearing a lot of concerns about the parking circle and Ancient Oak. The student population is currently at 525 and we have noticed a dramatic increase in circle traffic at drop off & pick up, especially with the addition of 4K students who start at 8:15 am. The Ancient Oak entrance has also gained popularity this year.
We are looking for volunteers to help in the mornings and afternoons next week.
The PTO board, staff and volunteers will educate the Olson community about the safety rules and hand out an English/Spanish brochure that lists the correct procedures for pick-up, drop off and parking at school. We will use Olson signage and Madison Police signage to slow traffic down around the school and to emphasize " No Parking/Drop Off Only" in the circle. All volunteers will wear yellow or orange vests. We will work in pairs or groups.
The schedules can be found on the Volunteer Page. I really hope you will consider helping because this is extremely important for the safety of our Olson community.
If you are concerned about having to confront parents who may not be following the correct procedures, please know that this will be a friendly exercise. Again, we will hand out brochures and educate. We will work in pairs or groups.
If you can help, please sign up on our Volunteer Page by Thursday, October 13, 2011: please include your phone number in the comments section in case we need to contact you.
We know our Olson community members have extremely busy lives! Whatever you can fit in your schedule next week - one shift, a couple or every day - is greatly appreciated by all!
I will forward more information about the week and a copy of the Safety Brochure to you on Friday.
Please help spread the word! Thank you!
Sincerely,
Helena Manning
Olson Elementary PTO Board

Become a tutor with Schools of Hope!
Volunteer Opportunity - Become a tutor with Schools of Hope!Hi Olson Parents!
My name is Sarah Hochendoner, and I am your new AmeriCorps Schools of Hope tutor coordinator. It is my job to recruit, train, and place literacy or math tutors who will work one-on-one with the Olson students. Through patience and encouragement, the volunteers often enhance the confidence in the children they work with and see their success in the classroom. I am excited to work with the Olson parents, and I hope you will consider volunteering your time as a tutor! Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in becoming a tutor or have any questions. Thanks!

olson@schoolsofhope.org Volunteer Opportunities
Hello Olson Volunteers -
As we approach the end of the year I look back at all we have accomplished and am so very, very thankful for all of you. You have helped in so many ways and I thank you all. We have an amazing school, with wonderful children and fantastic parents. I feel so very fortunate to be a part of it all. Thank you!
I have three opportunities (perhaps the last for the school year). If you are able to help with any please let me know. Thanks so much!
Math Games: May 17th, 19th, and 24th “Math Game Days” will occur at Olson Elementary School. These three days assist teachers with end of the year assessments while their students are engaged in constructive math activities. Each class will have a two hour time frame to participate. Approximately eight to ten math stations will be set up in the cafeteria. I am looking for volunteers to assist with the stations. More details with a sign up sheet is attached.
School Picnic: Friday, May 20th during lunch periods. We are looking for 1-2 grillers and 1-2 servers.
Talent Show: Auditions will be held on Tuesday, May 18th, Wednesday May 19th and Thursday May 20th. Two volunteers are needed each day from 11:40 to 1:20 to help monitor participants.
Thank you,
Kristie Schallert
