A friend of mine died last January, Indianapolis singer songwriter John Zink, 44. I was the recording engineer on three of his projects.
I meet John in '94 when he was recording an album with the group Peeping Tom. I worked with him again in '98 while recording 'Today's Special' with The Tone Pigs. The last time I saw John was in '03 shortly after we finished recording a group of songs to be his solo album.
He was always great to work with. Laid back, smiling, sincere. Even though I hadn't talked to him or seen him in over 7 years he was frequently on our minds. I just added one of the last tracks we worked on to a playlist in my pc a couple of weeks ago.
Great guy. Great songs. He'll be missed... But picturing him smile will always make me smile.
