10 Things You Can Do Today to End World Hunger

Ten Things You Can Do Today to End World Hunger 1. Feed your mind. Visit one of Heifer International’s learning centers to experience ways that you can make a difference. 2. Get busy. Volunteer for local or national organizations that fight world hunger and poverty. Nonprofit groups are often the strongest voice for the hungry. 3. Ante up. Charitable, alternative gift giving can directly support anti-hunger and sustainability efforts 4. Buy “fair.” Fair trade products ensure farmers and craftspeople in developing countries receive an adequate price for products and services and help them better support their families. 5. Go organic. Organic farming is environmentally friendly and provides a sound agricultural alternative. 6. Go and see. Join a Heifer Study Tour, where you can interact with people around the globe, learn about their communities, their lives and their struggles. You will return reinvigorated in your commitment to end hunger. 7. Bring Your Commitment home. Shop at your local farmers market and support small farmers. The food is fresher, and your dollars help those living in your community. 8. Use the Power of the Pen. Write your State and U.S. Senators and representatives to let them know that world hunger is a political issue and one of your top priorities 9. Be an Ambassador. Get your church, social group, family or civic club to help in the fight against hunger. Grassroots efforts make a dramatic difference in the lives of hungry families, as well as provide a strong voice of representation in governments. 10. Pass it on. Share your knowledge with your children and encourage them to get involved in the quest to end hunger. Ensure your commitment to ending hunger will burn in the next generation. Hi Jaime and the Volunteer team--every time I experience a member of the Heifer Volunteer team of WNY  I am more excited and grateful for the talents and the energy of each of you. Yesterday at the Apple Festival was delightful! Heifer is becoming known through our efforts in a way that is authentic to who we are and to the essential mission of Heifer itself. While each of us "Passes on the Gift" of our time and talents I am always struck by how the cornerstone of Spirituality is expressed. We have forged a connection to each other and we envision a future that is anchored in justice for everyone. Wow!

Nice job Jamie ! Wish I knew how to even download pictures. I belong to Shutterfly and have no idea what to do with my pictures, so I stand in line to print them for a looong time. This site makes us look like such a polished and professional team. That's a lot of pressure !

A Little About Heifer International

Bringing an End to World Hunger Through Unimaginable Blessings

Today, millions of people who were once hungry will be nourished by milk, eggs and fresh vegetables.self-reliance

Families who for generations knew only poverty will be building new homes and starting businesses.

Children who once headed out to the fields to do backbreaking work will be heading into schoolrooms to learn to read.

And people who never thought they’d be in a position to help someone else will be experiencing the joy of charitable giving.

How is this possible?

With Heifer’s proven approach – almost 60 years in the making – to helping people obtain a sustainable source of food and income.

Cornerstones guide our efforts to end world  hunger and care for the earth.

Long-Term Solutions emphasizing community involvement distinguish our work from that of global relief organizations.

“Passing on the Gift” means recipients agree to share the offspring of gift animals with others in need, making them equal partners with Heifer in the fight to end world hunger.

Environment and Sustainable Development is taught to our project recipients to help them achieve sustainable agricultural production.

Animal Well-Being guidelines are strictly reinforced with professional veterinary training staff.

Disaster Rehabilitation, with long-term, sustainable development the goal of Heifer's rehabilitation projects.

How We Measure Success shows how people's lives have permanently changed since Heifer came along.
