Happy New Year Ballplayers,
Too early to start thinking Baseball? Never! With the Jason Bay signing, even us Mets fans have good reason to look forward to the upcoming season. As for you Yankee fans, well, I know all too well, thanks to having a wife whose a fan, that you're still glowing in the aftermath of your latest World Series Victory. Not to mention that you've made some great off season moves, highlighted by the addition of Curtis Granderson.
Believe it or not, the NJBL meeting for Spring Travel Ball is being held this week. The deadline for registering teams is March 10, 2010.
Currently, we are working on obtaining permits to secure a field(s) to play. We are also considering moving up to the 75 foot division(s) which allow for leading and stealing.
The number of teams that we will field for the Spring depends upon the numbers of players committed to playing. We are fortunate to have a core group of coaches to staff as many teams as we have players. Please be aware as this is travel ball there are no guarantees that everyone will be placed on a team, or as to playing time. However, our goal is to promote the baseball skills and development of all interested players by involving as many kids as possible.
Additionally, currently all participants come from the district zoned to play in the Little League of the Islips. Accordingly, little league comes first with travel ball designed to complement and enhance the baseball experiences of our children.
Anyone who hasn't already registered for little league, please do so, the walk-in registration is January 16, 2009. See the attached handout which you are encouraged to circulate.
To date, our winter work-out program has been running very smoothly. The players are enjoying working with Coach Caden, Ricky Caputo and members of the St. Joseph's College baseball team. The next work-out is this Friday at the LI Mariners facility in Bohemia with the remainder of the work-outs moving to weekends at St. Joseph's College. Limited spots are available at a pro-rated cost of $25 per session for those interested in jumping in at this point. See the website for the specific dates and times.
More information will be forthcoming shortly, but expect the costs to run similar to last year. A meeting will be held in February at the East Islip Public Library to provide further information and to answer questions.
Please e-mail interest in the Winter Work-out Program/Spring season and provide us with a registration form if you haven't already.
Hope everyone's New Year is off to a great start!
Yours in baseball,
Coach Joe
Dear Islip Baseball Players,
For 10-12 yr old players for this upcoming season, we have planned out a a great winter work out-program for you to continue to develop your baseball skills during this off season.
On Friday evenings in November, 5:30 -7:30 pm, we will work out at the brand new KK Athletic Facility in Brentwood. The facility houses one of the largest indoor playing areas on Long Island. We will be able to comfortably run a full infield and hit there as well.
Continuing to work-out on Fridays in December, we will do so under the direction of Randy Caden, St. Joseph's College Coach, at his training facility in Bohemia.
In January through February, our ball players will be in for a real treat as we will get to work out at St. Joseph's College which has a 10,000 sq foot facility with drop down batting cages. Coach Caden and his college players will run 2 hr sessions, one per weekend for those 2 months. The college team runs these sessions as a fundraiser for their Spring break baseball trip. The times will not be tentativley set until November and they will be subject to change based on the scheduling needs of other St. Joe's activities, such as basketball.
On Tuesday, October 20th we will have a parent's meeting to discuss and go over plans for the Winter Work-out Program as well as for Travel Ball in 2010. The meeting will be held at the East Islip Public Library and will run from 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm.
So mark your calendars!
Yours in baseball,
Coach Joe
