Note the wire and wire guides on the arrow. The arrow penetrated the 1/2 plywood behind the one inch styrofoam target face. This shot was made with kinetic energy (punch) to spare with a 40# pull recurve bow. I am confident that the results would be the same for a slightly more elevated target at say a 40 foot height above ground (15 degree elevation at 150 feet distance). The distance from the target could even be extended to 60 to 90 yards for this bow or a slighty heavier pound pull bow of 50# or 55#. See still photos on second page of this site to see progress of arrow from release (technically "loose") to impact.
Greetings, Archers, Amazons, fire nymphs and assistants!
Thank you for being a member of the Trojan Horse archery project. I offer my sincere appreciation for a job well done under very trying circumstances. Each of you made very important contributions to the successful flaming arrow ignition of the Trojan Horse. We set a very high standard for live participant involvement in a major art installation burn.
Each of us will have memories to treasure always. Most were so busy we didn't get very many pictures in costume before and during the burn. Please share your photos and videos of the event with others. Please E-mail them to me or post them directly to the Shutterfly site. I will make a five minute DVD video/slide show of the burn event for each member.
Peace and arrows,
Apollo
Greetings, Archers! Today I sent you the FINAL Ignition Plan. After conversations with Homer just last night and again this morning, the concept has changed. Be sure to take notice that our plan is now different from the draft.
I have updated the Ready to Shoot entry. Congratulations to all of you! And thank you for your fine efforts in preparation for the shoot.
I had a visit at our home today from Doug Ramsey and his friend Monica. We took some tethered shots. And after learning that Monica was a member of the 1986 Olympic archery team for China, I hired her on the spot!
Peace and fire,
Apollo
any ideas as to where i can get flu flu arrows longer than 34"? i MIGHT be able to get by with those, but i'd really rather have 35" arrows. also, what would be the best way to attach the wire guides to the arrows?
