The Pare Diocese

The Pare Diocese, located in a mountainous region of northeastern Tanzania, has 134,970 members with 49 parishes, 106 places of worship, and 82 pastors.  The Diocese headquarters are in the city of Same. 

The companion synod relationship exists for the purpose of strengthening one another for life and mission within the body of Christ following the accompaniment model.

The ELCA Global Mission unit defines accompaniment as walking together in solidarity that practices interdependence and mutuality. In this walk, gifts, resources and experiences are shared with mutual advice and admonition to deepen and expand our work within God’s mission.

The Southeastern Iowa Synod has 39 congregations in a companion relationship with a parish in the Pare Diocese.
