It's February, oh yeah!

Spring Intersession has been rescheduled
Please update your calendars! March 2 is still an early dismissal day, but spring intersession has been moved to March 12-16 to accommodate the SOL testing schedule

2011-12 Year Books

It's time to order your PHSSA Yearbook! This year we are using TreeRing as our yearbook publisher. TreeRing allows parents to create personalized pages for their child, and best of all plants a tree for every yearbook sold! The full-color, soft-cover book is $15.99. Place your online order by following the directions below. You can begin customizing your pages and uploading photographs for your child's page, and for consideration of inclusion in the yearbook. You can upload photos from Facebook, flickr, or your computer! We need your photos, so make sure you upload them to the proper file and give the pics a caption. (Orders paid by check will be accepted at a later date.)
  1. Go to www.treering.com
  2. Click the "Register" button
  3. Enter our school's passcode: 1013174226202949

Walk, Run or Donate!
Sign up for PHSSA's First Annual Monument Fundraiser
Do you want to get active AND get busy for PHSSA? Sign up to run or walk in the Monument 10k on March 31st, set up a fundraising website and ask your friends and family to make a donation! Our goal is $10,000! Read more here, or if you're ready to sign up, email board member Cheryl Groce-Wright.

Destination ImagiNation
Parents: A chance to see how to get our school involved in a wonderful worldwide program called Destination Imagination!  Please visit these website for more information: http://www.idodi.org/  or http://southsidediva.org/

Destination ImagiNation, Inc. is an extraordinary non-profit organization that provides educational programs for students to learn and experience creativity, teamwork and problem solving. Every year, we reach 125,000 students across the U.S. and in more than 30 countries. Destination ImagiNation, our core program, is an educational program in which student teams solve open-ended Challenges and present their solutions at Tournaments. Teams are tested to think on their feet, work together and devise original solutions that satisfy the requirements of the Challenges. Participants gain more than just basic knowledge and skills—they learn to unleash their imaginations and take unique approaches to problem solving.

Your can have the opportunity to be an appraiser of some teams by attending training on Sat., Feb. 4 for the tournament which is on March 3 at Deep Run High School in Glen Allen.

Please feel free to contact Karen Neylan for more information.

Transportation Update
Thanks to everyone for their patience as the kinks have been worked out with drop-offs and pickups. Review this updated map and make sure to follow the instructions of the person directing traffic. Some reminders: Please do not drop your children off on 34th street. This is a extremely hazardous place to let kids cross with so many vans and cars. Please wait until you are in front of the cement steps to let your children out of the car. Letting them cross the parking lot is not safe. If you need to get out of your car, or have conversations with the teachers, please pull out of the carpool lane and park your car. The line will move more smoothly if this step is followed. Also Richard Hayes could use additional help directing traffic. Please email him if you're available to help.

Volunteers needed
We have some on-going volunteer needs at the school and need a handful of parents to jump in and help. We would like to have folks who can commit to a schedule of coming in on a regular basis. Email Page Hayes at phssa.volunteers@gmail.com or pagalina@yahoo.com
Carpool:  We need 1 or 2 people in the mornings from 7:30-8:10 and in the afternoons from 2:30-3.
Lunchroom monitor: We need 1 or 2 people for 30 minutes at a time at lunch to help out. It's a noisy job, but necessary to keep a semblance of order! Lunch goes from 11am-1pm.
