Peninsula Bridge...Bill's Books - peninsulabridgebillsbooks
Congratulations to Ruby Moreno!
Ruby Moreno is the inaugural winner of the Bill's Books drawing, and received a check for $500 to help cover some of her first semester book costs. She was a Bridge summer scholar, a Bridge TA, and a graduate of Castilleja School. She continues to give back by leading Science Saturdays for students at Brentwood Academy. Ruby is a freshman in pre-med at Stanford University.

Welcome Bridge Alumni
Finally off that college track and in college! Peninsula Bridge would like to know where you are and how you are doing. If you are finishing your first semester freshman year, send us that information, and anything else you would like to share about life after Bridge, and your name will be entered into a drawing to reimburse you for the cost of your first semester books, up to $500.00.
This opportunity is courtesy of Bill’s Books. Bill had two children at Sacred Heart, has been a long-term supporter of Bridge, and instrumental in making the Peninsula Bridge Valpo Bowl a successful fund-raiser for us. You must respond to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than Friday, January 11, 2013 to be included in the drawing.
The tenth annual Peninsula Bridge Valpo Bowl was played on November 9th, 2012. Both Sacred Heart Prep and Menlo School have hosted the Peninsula Bridge Program for more than twenty summers. Ten years ago, in the spirit of friendly competition, and to support what both schools believe to be a worthy cause, the Peninsula Bridge Valpo Bowl began. Gate, ticket, t-shirt and concession proceeds all go to support the program. In addition, several years ago Bill Shaw, father of SHP alumni Brittany ‘08 (Georgetown 2012, magna cum laude) and Hunter ’11 (University of Colorado), became actively involved in having community members match the gate proceeds up to $10,000. The first year the Bowl was played $1,000 was raised for Peninsula Bridge. The most successful year of fund-raising raised $70,000.
Peninsula Bridge is a tuition free four consecutive summers program for motivated middle school students from under-resourced communities on the Peninsula. Since our first summer, we have served more than 6,000 students and their families. Anybody who has ever worked with students wants to know what happens next. This year in honor of Bill’s long-term efforts, we are inaugurating Bill’s Books. This will scholarship the cost for first semester freshman books to a randomly selected Bridge alum up to $500.
