Mission: Plant A Tree A Day
The mission is to plant a tree a day, anywhere in the world, anytime of the day.
Are you interested in joining us?
We believe that if we save the earth, we save lives. We save every living thing on and in the earth; sea creatures, land creatures and most of all, humans. The earth is threatened. The air, water and land are being polluted with many elements. If we allow this earth to be consumed inch-by-inch, before we know it, this planet earth will vanish before our eyes. Did you know that there are tons and tons of trees being cut every single day, just in the US alone?
TREES are the best source of life. They are a source of oxygen; they purify the air, and provide food, shelter and clothing! Trees give us life. When are we going to act? We all are in a comfort zone and this issue is the least of our worries. But we actually are in a danger zone. We need to get our act together now. Please understand that trees don't grow overnight! It takes patience to plant trees one at a time and then many years for the trees to mature. Today is the day to start!
This project is totally from my heart. Nobody and No One have encouraged me to do such a thing like this. This has been in the back of my mind since I was born, I think. I remember helping my Dad in the garden instead of playing with my brothers and sisters. I was as young as 7. I love gardening! In fact, I took over redoing our garden from time to time. When I was in high school, I remember staring at a mountain that was far from my school and every time I looked at that mountain, I said to myself "One day I will be in the heart of that mountain!" and it happened!
In 2005, my husband, John, and I decided to invest in the Philippines. Since we both love nature, we wanted to buy a property overlooking water, or by the water. I asked my sister, Mimi, to find a place like this somewhere near Batangas City. She found such a property and it is near the mountain I fell in love with in high school. I made an instant decision to buy it sight unseen. My sister could only climb half way to the top. It was too steep for her to reach to the top. Regardless, my husband and I agreed to purchase the property. I went to the Philippines to complete the transaction and I was overwhelmed with what I saw.
The following year, I took my husband to the Philippines to see for him what he had bought and the beauty of the place astounded him. "It was breathtaking," he said. My cousin, Malou, who lives very close to this area, had never been up there. She said, " I feel like I am in another country!"
There is one problem. Though the scenery is gorgeous, there is not much vegetation. There were banana trees, coconut trees, some mango trees and a few bamboo trees. All the rest was just bushes. The mountain was dry and the soil was poor. I said to myself "This is the perfect opportunity for me to make use of my passion."
I planted 1500 Eucalyptus trees, 1500 Mahogany Trees, some Narra and other fruit-bearing trees. When the Eucalyptus trees were planted, they were 10-inch seedlings. When I came back in 18 months, they were 30-foot high. I was so surprised at how fast they grew! I could almost hear them say, "We are so happy to be here!"
Even before I went to the US, I had a project in Antipolo, Rizal to plant trees. I had an agreement with my best friend's mother to plant trees in her 5-hectare raw land in Antipolo. They didn't know what to do with that property and they were afraid that the government would take it away from them because it was idle. When it was granted to them years and years ago, it was agreed to be cultivated by them. They planted some crops. However, when the father died 1994, it became idle.
I made my proposition and the whole family agreed. Everything came together in 1997. I bought seeds from everywhere; Mahogany, Gemelina, Narra and Eucalyptus. I had beds and beds of seedlings that were bagged by the thousands. But in 1998, I was given a chance to go to the US for a business conference in Anaheim, CA. I traveled to LA and Canada and met a beautiful guy who became my husband. Nobody took care of the project. Nobody cared for the seedlings. Some have grown, but most died. The rest is history. I told myself "If I hadn't left, those trees would be huge by now and my life would be a different story.
Now, my story is more profound. I feel the need to plant trees anywhere, and everywhere that trees need to be planted, especially in my country. People are trying very hard to make a difference in their lives, to improve their standard of living by finding a livelihood here and there, finding jobs anywhere in the world to lift up the family's situation, and to give proper education to their young.
Ladies and gentlemen, friends and countrymen. All of us can make a difference in this planet earth and we should act now! Not next year, not next month, not tomorrow. NOW! I need your kind heart to participate in this project. This project requires manpower, personal administration, enormous amount of time and lastly money.
The mission is to plant a tree a day.
If I were 30, I should have planted 10,950 trees in my life! (365 days X 30 years). But who would ever have done that? No one! But it's not yet late to make up for the lost time, my dear friends. This project will allow us to begin today.
This project will create a lot of difference in one's life. Healthy air, a healthy life, a good means of livelihood for the entire community. Roads, bridges, free libraries, Community Centers, enclosed and air conditioned Farmers Market, Churches, and Hospitals with free treatment can be built with this project if the entire nation will just open its hearts to this project. This project means a better quality of life, better education for the next generation, and more food on the table. I am calling on everyone who has read this message.
I mean E V E R Y O N E!
Please don't wait for your neighbor to act first. I am reaching out to you! If we start this tomorrow the project will bear its fruit in 10 years. It will be 10 years and a day, if we act tomorrow, it will be 10 years and a month if we act next month, and if we act next year, it will be 11 years. Please, this is been long overdue. Don't wait for the government to act on this, because it will never happen! It will happen ONLY if we act!
I invite EVERYONE to take part in this project. Let's put our hearts together to make this happen and I assure you, We cannot go wrong if this is done with Love, Sincerity and Honesty. As the Good Book says... "Anything you do for the least of your brother, you've done it to Me!" said the Father.
The book also mentions. “He will also send you rain for the seed you sow in the ground and the food that comes from the land will be rich and plentiful”.
Remember what JFK said… “Ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country... But we say... Ask not what you can do for the trees, but ask what the trees can do for you..”
