There are a large number of game styles that fall under the general heading of
dirt bike games, but it is important not to forget the smaller categories that fall under this generic label. Some of the games that are in this genre may very well be described best by just one theme or style, but many of them stretch across multiple genres. With all of the motorbike games available on the Internet, it is nearly impossible to accurately classify each of them individually. It's possible that each individual motorcycle game could create and encompass its own individual genre and style, given the multitude of games out there.
Giving a broad, general category name for a few different styles of dirt bike games can be hard, but it is definitely possible, as most fit into one of three categories. In this blog post, I will name some of the specific categories of dirt bike games that are commonly known across the web. This may help you find exactly what kind of dirt bike game you are looking for if you are having trouble narrowing down your search, or do not know the names of the categories.
Motocross Games
Motocross games refer to general dirt bike games that do not fit into any exclusive or specific category. While these games may involve other vehicles or modes of transportation, they are always centered around dirt bikes. In most
free motocross games, you will find yourself racing against competitors, or competing against yourself in time trials.
FMX Games
FMX refers to freestyle motocross, and extreme style of dirt bike riding. A number of different tricks are performed to impress the crowd and judges, ultimately earning you points. Unlike racing games, you will not be competing against others to cross the finish line first, but instead to perform the most extreme tricks possible on the course you are riding. You may be able to do no handers and front flips among other types of tricks.
Dirt Bike Racing Games
In dirt bike racing games, you will race competition to the checkered flag, as the name of the genre makes fairly obvious -- cross the white line first, and you win. Sometimes, however, you may be challenged to beat your own personal best times, and not just beat out other racers that are on the track with you.
That wraps up the main genres of dirt bike games that are currently in existence. Of course, as previously stated, there are a number of other types of dirt bike games available on the web. Many of these other games don't really fit into the three general categories that we have discussed in this blog post. For those of you that are still having a hard time deciding what game might be best for you, feel free to check out
hell riders -- which is one of my personal favorites, and see where that takes you.
