Hello Everyone,
Just returned from a wonderful trip to .
In this year that I will be 50, God has honored me to go and participate with the Joyce Meyer Medical Team to demonstrate God’s love to these people through medical care and prayer! For those that do not know, this is the country that more than 45 years ago started my desire to serve God overseas.
Our team consisted of more than 40 people. Part of our team was in a very remote place doing medical outreach and we met them on the last day. Our team of 31 doctors, nurses and volunteers stayed in and traveled short distances to surrounding poor areas.
The doctors and nurses and volunteers were very sincere about helping, they were very kind and came from four different nations.
Together both teams treated more than 4,300 people; we saw more than 1,000 salvations and more than 300 people received necessary dental care.
As people arrived from as far away as a two hour walk, each person received a number and stood in line, some stood almost all day because there were so many people. Each received a form where we filled in their names, took temperatures and weights, sent them through triage and then to the doctor. Everyone received individual ministry and afterwards they received any necessary prescriptions.
I got an enjoyable job, as the one who directed the people to the triage stations. So, when I had a moment or two, I could blow up balloons, sing with the weary, blow bubbles and play games with the children. At the end of the day I was pretty wiped out, it was a good wiped out only because it was a long time to stand.
I was happy for the job because I saw every person that came through. I was able to touch the I had dreamed about since I was less than 4 years old. I was especially intrigued with those that would have been alive when I had started praying for this country. Others on the trip also received a call from the Lord regarding when they were small.
I found the people kind and mild tempered toward us. Most of them smiled easily and would wait their turn in line. As we drove down the road we received many waves and smiles with our Joyce Meyer banner on the side of our bus.
The Lord blessed with two sweet room mates. I think I was the only one that snored J. One is a dentist here in ; the other is a surgical nurse. Both were very kind and we had a lot of laughs too.
The team was especially blessed because the clinics coincided with the Festival of Life we were able to attend several of these meetings. Steve Grace a musician from and Hillsong preformed for more than an hour before Joyce spoke. It was so awesome. I have not been to a concert for many years and I know the people were amazed to see so many lights everywhere that went a long with the music. The Lord was so present there especially that last evening.
Both Joyce Meyer and the Hillsong team visited the Medical Clinic during the week.
The results of the Festival were told to be historical – so many people showed up, so many churches worked together, God was truly glorified.
I went for several reasons, one being that I would like to learn a little more about how to be more effective with our All Nations Medical Outreaches.
I learned several things:
I learned new and more efficient ways of making a chart for the patients having all of the questions that are asked in triage printed out already.
I learned to share different ways to share our proper sanitary practices and not stress over whether they listen but allow them to decide on their own.
I learned some necessary steps that will prepare for doctors and dentists to be on our medical team.
Prayerfully, we will be able to have some come to next year.
Although I was ready to go home, I had the feeling inside like someone who has been working hard to play a baseball game and finally won the finals.
Thank you God for this opportunity, I would do it again, and again….
Thank you to all who made this trip possible and to all who prayed and are praying.
Sincerely in His Service,
Teresa Skinner
