Family Member Required Information
The following is what we require to make and deliver a portrait to you of your loved one.
-
Soldiers full name and rank
-
Your name and relation to soldier. Portraits are for immediate family members. If you are not a direct relative but can deliver the portraits to them we can still use your contact information to help us out.
-
Your contact information. An email address that you check regularly works best and/or phone number.
-
Mailing address. We need a final mailing destination to send the portraits to. This information is secure and confidential. Only send it to the "Portrait Freedom" main email account. Do not post it on the project site or mail it to any member that is not a moderator. Without this information we cannot begin the portrait so please make sure you include this.

A good useable picture of your loved one. See examples below. They do not have to be a picture in uniform but they do have to be clear and in focus. Close up shots at a size of about 5X7 work well. We have to enlarge just the head study, so if the subject is small and we enlarge it, their bust detail may be lost. A close up from the chest up will give us the best chance to create a good portrait. The closer the picture of the face (with good focus, no sunglasses and good lighting) the better chances of a good portrait. Digital email attachments of pictures are welcomed, but please attach high resolution pictures. We cannot work with poorly focused and low resolution files. The option of mailing a picture is also welcomed. We require actual photos or copies of original photos. Pictures printed out on standard printing paper will not work well for us at all. If you send pictures please note in writing if you need the picture sent back to you. We can also use photos already posted on a web site, i.e. the Fallen Heroes site.
-
With so many soldiers and family members please limit your request to just the loved ones image alone. More than one image on a single piece of wood takes up to much space and will not give you the detail that you would normally get with one. More than one image also takes twice the time and we really wish to move on to the next family waiting for their portrait.
Good Picture Example
1 |
2 |
You will notice in the picture number 1 above that the subject is pictured from the bust up, in good focus and shows the face and character. When blown up for our patterns the quality and detail for the most part remains in number 2. Notice the measurements around the picture.
Bad Picture Example
3 |
4 |
In the photo above Number 3 you will notice the subject is far away in a small picture and the focus is not that great. When blown up to make a pattern of the face or bust, the detail and features are not good enough to work with as shown in picture number 4. Notice the measurements around the pictures. This will make a poor picture choice to make a portrait of. We show you this in order for us to get the best possible picture to make a portrait for you. Please try to find good focused pictures to use that shows the subjects face close up. We understand that you may have a favorite picture that you would like done but if that picture does not have the above qualities (The good picture example) then it will not work well for us and we cannot offer you what we know we can do with the right picture.
How to send your picture(s) to a moderator to start the process:
Pick a good clear picture as outlined above.
