Never Alone
I find a spot to sit a spell and suddenly I really see.
Reds so brazen popping from a sea of textured green.
My limbs relax, I slow my breath and cool crisp smells envelope me.
Fragrant citrus osage orange and earthy drying leaves.
I tilt my head and close my eyes to feel the sun upon my face.
And hear the flutter of leaves in trees and crunch beneath my feet.
Is this a bit of solitude? Or God's touch reaching out to me?
Father, Thank You
For the warm kiss of the sun on my skin
It wraps me in your overwhelming embrace of everlasting love.
Father, thank you....
For the gentle whispers in the wind
that assure me you are with me, always.
Father, thank you.....
For the soothing sounds of the river's edge. It calls me to know that through
Baptism, you have washed me of sin and given me eternal life.
Father, thank you.....
For the strength you are building inside me to surrender to you.
I will pick up my cross and follow you all the days of my life.
I seek you Father, and I know....
At your feet I am truly free.
Winter Walk
except for the low leaf-rustle of a bounding squirrel,
or occasional muted birdcall.
The stillness beckons.
Enter.
Tread softly.
Leave behind busyness,
mental noise,
worry.
Be calm.
Let the silence soak in. There is no breeze.
The trees surround, embrace.
The woods absorb sound.
silently dropping as a ray of sun shines through.
The snowflakes sparkle, flash: winter fireflies
blessing this space.
SilentCall
The woods are still today.
No breeze whispers.
No bird calls.
No squirrel rustles.
Cathedral trees
reach skyward in stillness,
dome of naked branches
enclosing sacred space.
All in silence is present
to another Presence.
The woods stand, an open Church
calling all to worship.
What it means to me:
When I'm hiking, and in my journey with God, I don't always know if I'm going in the right direction. However, for small moments in time, when I see a cairn, I know I'm on the right path. In between the cairns, you have to have faith.
This butterfly reminds me that God want us to be happy and free.
At St. Francis of Assisi the Baptismal Font is prominent in the gathering space and through the windows you can look into the Francis Garden.
At our house, we too like to hear the comforting movement of water, see the colorful flowers and experience nature with St. Francis watching over.
Sea otter takes a rare break on shore in Homer, Alaska.
The wonder of God's creation in action.
Sunrise Tree
I used to walk my dogs every morning. I would plan my day and get ready for the opportunities that God was going to send my way. To this day, I remember the peace and beauty of God’s creation as the sun would rise over the trees and burn the mist off the ground.
You need not travel the world nor climb the highest mountains to seek God. The Triune God is as close as your own backyard; even closer if you look deeply within yourself.
