Race Report from April Race at Jeff's

April marked our second 2014 points series race at Jeff's and third overall 2014 race at his place counting the Enduro.  The racing, food and fun were as good as always.  The crowd was a touch smaller with 8 drivers showing up, which creates a good opportunity for scoring points.  Alan and Kevin's cakes were a hit, as were the hot dogs and chili that Jeff generously provided.

The race opened with qualifying for the A and B Mains in the Stock MT class (1 minute per lane).  Qualifiers for the A Main (in qualifying order) were Jeff and Al (tied for first),  Alan and Darkhorse.  Qualifiers for the B Main were Scott, Steve, Paul and Jay.   The Mains once again simply separated the drivers into running groups, but drivers were still all competing against the pack and could win from either main.

For the Mains we ran 3 minutes per lane.  Top 4 in Stock MT were Jeff (81.02 laps), Al (78.19), Scott (78.06) and Steve (78.02). Some really, really close racing! The rest of order was 5th Alan, 6th Paul, 7th Jay, and 8th Darkhorse.

Following Stock MT we then ran our Polymer MT race, running 2 minutes per lane with no qualifying.  Top 4 in polymer MT were Jeff (73.10), Steve (70.11), Darkhorse (66.27) and Al (64.23).  The rest of the order was 5th Paul, 6th Scott, 7th Alan and 8th Jay.

Watch for an update to our points series standings, which should be sent out within the next week.  Things continue to look competitive, with some new faces near the top.

Detailed results from the race can be viewed at https://queencityhoslotcarracingseries.shutterfly.com/forum or downloaded at https://queencityhoslotcarracingseries.shutterfly.com/2012results.

Race Report from March Race at Paul's

We returned to the QCHORS points series after a month off for our annual Enduro.  This month we continued with our new format of running a qualifier for Stock MT to separate the racers into multiple mains.  We had a great turnout with 11 racers.

The race opened with qualifying for A, B and C Mains in the Stock MT class (1 minute per lane).  Qualifiers for the A Main (in qualifying order) were Jeff, Alan, Al and Ken B.  Qualifiers for the B Main were Fritz, Jay, Paul and Darkhorse (Kevin).  C qualifiers were Scott, Fast Finger Freddy and Steve.  The Mains simply separated the drivers into running groups, but drivers are still all competing against the pack and can win from any main.

For the Mains we ran 3 minutes per lane.  Top 4 in Stock MT were Jeff (136 laps), Al (129.57), Fritz (126.09) and Scott (126.07). Fritz's 3rd place came from within the B Main, while Scott's 4th came from the C Main. The rest of order was 5th Jay, 6th Ken B., 7th Paul C., 8th Alan, 9th Darkhorse, 10th Fast Finger Freddy and 11th Steve.

Following Stock MT we then ran our Polymer MT race, running 2 minutes per lane with no qualifying.  Top 4 in polymer MT were Darkhorse (129.86), Steve (129.81), Death Racer (125) and Ken B. (123).  The rest of the order was 5th Al, 6th Paul, 7th Scott, 8th Alan, 9th Fritz, 10th Jay and 11th Fast Finger Freddy.

We finished with an IROC with Mega-G GT-40's in Red and Yellow and SRT GT-40's in the center lanes (white and green).  Finishing order in the IROC was 1st Paul (144), 2nd Darkhorse (143), 3rd Steve (142), 4th Ken (141), 5th Al (136), 6th Jeff (135), 7th Fast Finger Freddy (127), 8th Jay 123, and 9th Scott (117).

No laps per heat records were tracked in Stock MT, since we did not run our traditional 2 minutes per heat. Multiple records were tied or broken between Polymer MT and the IROC.  Jeff tied the polymer MT record in red with 33 laps in 2 minutes.  Steve and Al tied the polymer MT record in white with 34.  Darkhorse tied the record in green with 34, as well.  Al set a new IROC record in red with 40 laps in a Mega-G.

The points series standings have been updated based on the race, with a cool mix of new names near the top.  Top 3 in the stock series year-to-date are Jeff, Al and Scott.  Top 3 in the polymer MT series are Darkhorse, Ken and Jeff.  Top 3 in the combined series are Jeff, Al and Ken.  Top 3 in the West Side Series is the same for Stock, Polmer and Combined (1st Al, 2nd Scott, 3rd Alan).

Detailed results from the race can be viewed at https://queencityhoslotcarracingseries.shutterfly.com/forum or downloaded at https://queencityhoslotcarracingseries.shutterfly.com/2012results, where our current 2014 Standings can also be viewed and a detailed Stats breakdown can be downloaded.

The 2014 Harcon Enduro was held on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Jeff's Death Racer Speedway.  Thanks to Jeff for hosting another great event.  The race was enjoyed by all.  It was a real pleasure getting drivers from Dayton, Columbus and Cincinnati together for some friendly competition.  We also enjoyed a visit from our old friend Jim S.  The feast on the food tables was equally enjoyable to the race.

We also owe thanks to our sponsors who generously provided prizes:

Jeff never really expects us to bring any food items to the race, so please do not feel obligated.  If you would like to bring a small food item to share at the Enduro (chips, dessert, etc.) you can either try to edit the list at the link below or just email me Paul C. (Statman)  and it will be put on the list for you.  Again, we've always been pretty low key about this kind of thing.  Please note, details on the Enduro are also available at this same link.

Teams should also get Jeff their team names soon, as well.

Jeff to Host 4 Dayton Club Races

Jeff is going to host 4 Dayton Club races between now and the end of April at Death Racer Speedway. Spots are available and cars will be available to borrow. Dues are $5 per race. Let Jeff know if you plan to attend. Race dates and car classes can be found on our calendars at either of the links below.  This is a great chance to run with some great racers and to race cars we don't typically run in Cincinnati.

Race Report from January 2014 Race at Jeff's

The 2014 Queen City HO Slot Car Racing Series got off to a great start on Friday, with our January race being held at Jeff's Death Racer Speedway.  The race featured a modified format and a few new faces.  We welcome to the Club Kevin (Darkhorse), Rico (Fast Finger Freddy) and John M. from the Dayton Club.

The race opened with a new twist - qualifying for A and B Mains in the Stock MT class (1 minute per lane).  Qualifiers for the A Main (in qualifying order) were Jeff, Paul, Scott and Alan.  Qualifiers for the B Main were Ken B., Al, Darkhorse, John M. and Fast Finger Freddy.  The Mains simply separated the drivers into running groups, but drivers are still all competing against the rest of the pack and can win from either main.

For the A and B Stock MT Mains we had another minor change - running 3 minutes per lane instead of 2 minutes.  Top 3 in Stock MT were Jeff (82 laps), Al (77) and Paul (75).  The rest of order was 4th - Ken B. (73), 5th - Scott (72), 6th - Darkhorse (71), 7th - Alan (69), 8th - Fast Finger Freddy (67) and 9th - John M. (66).

Following Stock MT we then ran our Polymer MT race, running our traditional 2 minutes per lane with no qualifying.  Top 3 in polymer MT were Ken B. (71), Darkhorse (69) and Paul (68).  The rest of the order was 4th - Al (64), 5th - Jeff (62.32), 6th - John M. (62.27), 7th - Scott (61), 8th - Fast Finger Freddy (57) and 9th - Alan (54).

No laps per heat records were tracked in Stock MT, since we did not run our traditional 2 minutes per heat. One record was tied in Polymer MT, with Darkhorse matching the yellow lane record with 19 laps.

Here's to another great year of racing in 2014!

Report from 2013 Christmas Race at Paul's

Like the last of couple years, we wrapped up our season with an always enjoyable tradition – our Christmas race.   This year’s Christmas race was held at Paul’s and, once again, featured a “through-the-years” IROC using 12 fantastic cars worked up by Jeff.  We also had a good time with the gift exchange and enjoyed a good meal, including a great candy cane shaped cake made by Alan’s wife (check out the pictures).

The racing was essentially broken into three separate IROCs, starting with the Pancake Motors.  This race featured a T-Jet, an AFX non-Magnatraction, a Magnatraction with shims, and an AFX 4-gear (specialty chassis).  Jay, who we often see noodling with all kinds of T-Jets and their Auto World counterparts, took the first IROC convincingly finishing with 69 laps over the second place total of 66.  Second place went to sections between 3 drivers, with Jeff taking second (66.89), Ken third (66.79) and Dave fourth (66.78).  Ken and Dave were separated by just a couple of inches.  The rest of the pack was not far behind: 5 – Al (65), 6 – Scott (63.41), 7 – Alan (63.40), 8 – Paul (58).

The second IROC consisted of traditional stock in-line cars.  This race featured a G-Plus, a narrow Tyco 440X2, a Turbo and an SRT.  Dave took this one by a narrow margin over Jeff, 124 to 123.  Jay continued his solid race, finishing in third (116).  The rest of the field was: 4 – Paul (115.45), 5 – Alan (115.43), 6 – Al (114.95), 7 – Ken (114.41), 8 – Scott (109).

The final IROC consisted of modern in-line cars.  This race included a G3 chassis with SG+ parts, a Mega-G, a G3 with C4 magnets, and a G3 with C10 magnets.  Jeff won this race by a large margin finishing with 158 laps, 5 ahead of the next driver.  Paul narrowly edged Dave for second, 153.35 to 153.33.  The rest of the field was: 4 – Ken (148.67), 5 – Jay (148.58), 6 – Al (143), 7 – Alan (138), 8 – Scott (130).

Combining the 3 IROCs, Jeff won the overall Christmas race, Dave was second and Jay was third.  Final totals were: 1 – Jeff (347), 2 – Dave (343), 3 – Jay (333), 4 – Ken (328), 5 – Paul (326), 6 – Al (322), 7 – Alan (316), 8 – Scott (302).

Jeff tied the white lane record for this track with 40 laps in a heat, achieving the mark with a narrow Tyco 440X2.  Jeff and Paul had each previously hit 40 in this lane with a Mega-G during a previous IROC.   Every driver tied or broke the club’s yellow lane record for this track of 38 laps in a heat.  The record was previously set by Drag Racer Bob with a Mega-G.  The record was broken during this Christmas race using a G3 with C10 magnets.  Jeff led the pack and is now the record holder with 46 laps in a heat.

Detailed results from the Christmas race can be found here: https://queencityhoslotcarracingseries.shutterfly.com/forum

Following the race we held our gift exchange.  Lots of great cars, bodies and other items were exchanged.  Al picked up a great slot car-mounted video camera from Jay and took some good video on Paul's track.  Clips are available on the shutterfly page.  Watch for more view-from-car videos from Al on all of all of our QCHORS tracks in 2014!

Thanks to all who raced in QCHORS this year!  It was another great year for our club.

Pictures and Results from 2013 Christmas Race

Thanks to Jeff for setting up 12 really great cars for the Christmas IROC, which was run at Paul's on December 13.

I will get a Christmas race report out soon along with some final 2013 stats, but have loaded some new pictures and video at the link below. At the link you will find Jeff's photos from the Cross the River IROC, some pictures from the Christmas race, Al's slideshow from the Cross the River IROC and 2 "car-view" videos from the Christmas race using the car top camera Al received from Jay in the gift exchange. The videos are at the bottom of the page.

https://queencityhoslotcarracingseries.shutterfly.com/pictures

I will break down the totals from the Christmas race into the 3 individual IROCs in the race report, but for right now here are the combined totals.  Congrats to Jeff, Dave and Jay on finishing 1, 2, 3 overall in Christmas IROC.  Nice racing to all.  Here are the combined numbers:

1. Jeff 347
2. Dave 343
3. Jay 333
4. Ken 328
5. Paul 326
6. Al 322
7. Alan 316
8. Scott 302

Report from Jeff's Cross The River IROC November 23, 2013

Death Racer Jeff hosted his second annual Cross The River IROC at Death Racer Speedway on November 23, 2013. This is a really great event, as it brings together drivers from 4 clubs - Lexington, Dayton, Central Ohio, and the host club - Cincinnati's QCHORS.

A total of 15 drivers showed up this year, for a first class event. It was a complete day with a lot of laughs, good fellowship, too much food, and some really enjoyable racing. This year we raced Magna-Traction Tractor Trailers prepared by Jeff and Life Like M Chassis Nascars prepared by Tyco Kidd.

The Tractor Trailers were first. This important piece of slot car history proved to be something truly new and refreshing for many of us, and a lot of fun to drive. When Byron realized that he could have raced to the Smokey and the Bandit song, I thought we were going to have to re-run the whole event to give him the full experience. We somehow averted the do over, and had a fun and challenging race (one that was equally challenging for the marshals trying to handle those trailers!).

In the end, Ken O. took the top spot in Tractor Trailers with 30.33 laps, followed by Ryan in second with 29.30 and Fritz in third 28.02. Fourth went to The Professor with 27.07 followed by Death Racer Jeff in fifth with 27.02. Spots 6 through 15 can seen in results file.

We ended the day running a much faster race with Tyco Kidd's Life Like M Chassis Nascars. Ken O. was in top notch form, taking this class, as well. The top 5 were: first Ken O. with 80.20, second The Professor with 77.27, third Tyco Kidd with 77.05, fourth Ryan with 77.02 and fifth Fritz with 75.26.

Combining the results from the two classes, Ken O. was the overall champion. Top 5 combined were: first Ken O. with 110.53, second Ryan with 106.32, third The Professor with 104.34, fourth Fritz with 103.28 and fifth Tyco Kidd with 102.25.

Jeff was kind enough to provide trophies for first place in each class and for the overall, along with ribbons for second and third in each class. Jeff's hospitality was truly appreciated. It really was a day enjoyed by all, not only for the racing but also for the fellowship. We will all be looking forward to next year's race.

You can view all of the finishing positions at this link: https://queencityhoslotcarracingseries.shutterfly.com/forum

November Race Report from Paul's

With the points series results at stake, Paul hosted the final race of our regular season on November 15.  The racing was, as always, fun and competitive.  We did miss a few of our regulars - Dave, Ken, Bob and Rob.

Steve opened the night winning stock MT by a big margin.  Top 3 in stock were Steve (101), Paul (92), and Jeff (90).  Fritz (90) was fourth, just behind Jeff on track sections.  Alan (87), Al (83), Scott (80) and Jay (76) rounded out the group.

Steve kept it going, winning a tight race with the polymer magnatractions.  The top 4 were Steve (129), Jeff (128), Fritz (126) and Alan (125).  Al (118), Paul (112), Scott (110) and Jay (99) were in 5th through 8th, respectively.

We ended the night with another run of Scott's brass weighted Tycos, a fun class we ran on this same track earlier in the year.  We upped the voltage from 12 to 13 volts this time, and once again found these cars to be a blast with plenty of spend, some nice drift, and a few whale-like rolls.  Steve completed the hatrick, winning his third race of the night.  Top 4 were Steve (88), Fritz (87), Paul (85) and Jay (84).  5th through 7th were Jeff (81), Alan (79) and Scott (76).  I can't wait to run these cars again - they are really a unique class for us.

Steve broke the only heat record of the night, breaking his own record in polymer magnatraction by driving 34 laps in green.

The final season standings have now been determined based on this race.  See the Standings tab for details.  A longer summary will be published soon, but a few highlights follow.

Congrats to: The top 3 for the full club in combined stock and polymer points: 1. Jeff (113), 2. Dave (110) and 3. Steve (106).  The top 3 for the full club in stock MT: 1. Dave (57), 2. Jeff (56) and 3. Steve (54).  The top 3 for the full club in polymer MT: 1. Jeff (57), 2. Ken (56) and 3. Dave (53).

Congrats also to: The top 3 for the West Side Series in combined stock and polymer points: 1. Alan (84), 2. Al (71), 3. Jay 53).  The top 3 for the West Side Series in stock MT: 1. Alan (48), 2. Al (32) and 3. Scott (32).  The top 3 for the West Side Series in polymer MT: 1. Al (39), 2. Alan (36) and 3. Jay (24).

A detailed summary of the latest race can be found below or can be downloaded from the Standings tab.  The summary of our 2013 stats is also available for download in the Standings tab.  Some more summary information will be published by the end of the year like most laps and top IROC drivers, so stay tuned!

Points Breakdown Before Final Race

Here is a breakdown of the points series before our last race. Do not read this if you do not want to know how things like tiebreakers would turn out, as this info is included. 1. Congrats to Alan - he has won the West Side stock MT Series!
2. 2nd and 3rd are wide open between Scott, Alan and Jay.

In the West Side Mod MT Series Al is ahead of Alan 37 to 31.
1. If Al finishes 4th or higher then he wins the West Side Mod Series.
2. If Alan wins the Mod race and Al is 6th or lower then Alan wins the West Side Mod Series.
3. If Alan wins and Al is 5th then they tie and Al wins the West Side Mods on a tie breaker.
4. If Alan is 2nd and Al 7th or lower then Alan wins West Side Mods.
5. If Alan is 2nd and Al 6th then they tie and Al wins the West Side Mods on a tie breaker.
6. If Alan is 3rd and Al 7th or lower then they tie and Al wins the West Side Mods on a tie breaker.
7. If Alan is 4th or lower then Al wins the West Side Mods.

In the West Side Combined Series Alan leads Al 79 to 67.
1. If Alan finished 7th or better in Mod MT or 3rd or better in Stock then he wins the Combined West Side Series.
2. If Alan finished 4th in Stock and 8th in Mods then he wins the Combined West Side Series.
3. If Al wins stock and Mods, and Alan finished 5th or worse in Stock and 9th or worse in Mods then Al wins the Combined West Side Series.
4. If Al finished 2nd, 1st or 1st, 2nd then he can get into a tie breaker with Alan. The first tie breaker (head to head) would be a tie 9 to 9 (assuming Alan races in November). Alan would then win the West Side Combined Series on the second tie breaker (most first place finishes).

See you in a couple weeks!

October Race Report from Jay's

Jay hosted another excited race on October 18, a race that proved to be critical for drivers scrambling for points with just 2 races left in the season.  The food, racing and chatter were all top notch.  While point totals did continue to move, no one was able to deliver a knockout punch to end the series.  It will come down to the final race...

Alan continued his late season run with a win in stock MT. After a quiet spring, Alan has broken through with three straight podium finishes.  Jeff helped his cause with second place, while Steve straightened things out in third place, returning to the stock podium for the first time since July.  Things were tight at the top with Alan edging out Jeff and Steve 72 to 71, and with Jeff taking second by just 3 sections.  Al took fourth, one section ahead of Ken who was in fifth.  Scott took sixth, edging out Jay by 7 sections.

Ken and Jeff kept the mod series exciting.  Ken took first with 100 laps, closely followed by Jeff in second with 99.  Steve has a solid third with 96.  Al, Alan, Jay and Scott took 4, 5, 6 and 7, respectively.

Jay then ran a wild IROC with an X-Traction Ultra-G, Modified G+, Lifelike, and Stock AFX.  Ken, Alan and Jay all finished with 71 laps, with Ken taking first, Alan second and Jay third, after reviewing the sections.  Al was fourth, Jeff fifth, Scott sixth and Steve seventh.

Some heat records for this track were tied and broken.  In stock, Jeff and Alan tied Steve's record for 20 laps in green.  In polymer MT, Ken tied a record of 27 laps in green, which he already shared with Dave.  In the IROC, Ken set a new record with 26 laps in green with a G+.  Al set a record of 21 laps in blue with a Life-Like.

Our season standings have been updated based on this race.  See the Standings tab for details.  Keep in mind, the totals are the best 6 races for each driver.  A breakdown of the standings is coming soon.

A detailed summary of the latest race can be found below or can be downloaded from the Standings tab.  A current summary of our 2013 stats is also available for download in the Standings tab.  A more detailed breakdown of the standings is coming soon, so stay tuned!

If We Counted The IROC Points...

Steve asked an interesting question.  While we don't track the IROCs as a point series, what do the results look like when you apply the same points system to all of the IROCs we have been running?  Would it change the overall grand total?

See below, I ran some numbers.  The bottom line is the overall combined points series (MT+MMT+IROC) would see almost no change, except Alan and Al would swap 6th and 7th place.  Looking at just the IROC only scores, the top 4 are the same as the top 4 in the overall, but then Al and Jay jump ahead of Paul and Alan for 5th and 6th, followed by Paul in 7th, then Scott sneaks ahead of Alan for 8th.  IROCs are at the end of the night, so Bob misses many of them to start his long drive home.  See below for the running order for each series.

Current Overall
1-Jeff
2-Dave
3-Steve
4-Ken

Points Series Breakdown with 2 Races Left

Here is a brief breakdown of the QCHORS Points Series through September with 2 races to go:

For the full club stock Magnatraction Series:
1. Only Jeff or Dave can win. Steve has been eliminated.
2. Jeff and Dave can end in a tie.
3. Neither can hit a perfect score of 60 points. Best possible for both is 59.
4. If Dave wins the next MT race and Jeff finishes third or worse then it is over
5. If Jeff wins the next MT race and Dave finishes second or worse then they are tied going into the final race of the year
6. Steve still has a shot at second, but he needs 2 great finishes with Jeff falling asleep at the wheel
7. Alan or Paul can catch Steve in at least a tie for third, if either drives great and Steve has a poor finish.

For the full club polymer Magnatraction series:
1. Jeff, Ken or Dave can still win
2. None of them can score a perfect 60; only Jeff can hit 59
3. If Ken wins one of the last 2 and places second in the other and Dave wins one of the last 2 and places second in the other then Dave, Ken and Jeff tie
4. If Dave or Ken finish 3rd or worse in the next race then they have no shot at winning
5. If either Dave or Ken wins both of the last 2 then they win
6. If Jeff wins either of the last 2 mod races then he wins mods
7. Steve has a long shot at a tie for second

For the full club combined points series:
1. Only Jeff or Dave can win; Steve has been eliminated
2. Dave and Jeff can tie
3. Either of them can win stock and mods and overall, or it could be a split with 1 winning stock, 1 winning mod and either winning the overall
4. Steve can tie Dave for second, but it's a long shot
5. Ken still has shot at third
6. Paul and Alan have a long shot at 4th

In the West Side Series:

1. Alan’s the front runner to win stock Magnatraction. Jay can tie Alan. Scott can still finish ahead of Alan. Both are long shots.
2. For polymer Magnatraction: Al is the front runner. Alan or Jay can catch Al, with Jay being a long shot.
3. Overall for the West Side series, Alan is the leader, but Al, Jay and Scott can still catch him.

September Race Report from Jeff's

Thanks to Jeff for a wild night of racing on September 20.  It doesn't get much better than chili, hot dogs, chocolate chip cookies (from Alan), a Tractor Trailer IROC, and a return visit from our old friend Jim.  Things were already tight at the top in the points series, and it looks like they just got tighter.  With two races left, a lot is left to be settled.

We opened with our usual Stock Magnatraction race. Jeff took the top spot by a convincing margin.  Fritz paid us a visit this month and took second.  Alan, who has been on a tear lately, took third after missing second by just a small number of sections.  The finishing order was 1-Jeff (55 laps), 2-Fritz (51.23), 3-Alan (51.06), 4-Steve (50), 5-Paul (49), 6-Scott (48.10), 7-Jay (48.04), 8-Al (46).

Polymer Magnatractions were next.  The top 3 were Steve, Jeff and Fritz, with Alan again finding himself just a few sections behind Fritz.  The finishing order was 1-Steve (74), 2-Jeff (72), 3-Fritz (69.21), 4-Alan (69.16), 5-Paul (65), 6-Al (63), 7-Jay (59), 8-Scott (57).

Next was an IROC that everybody seemed to love - Stock Magnatraction Tractor Trailers.  A smart set of rules forced you to always keep your trailer on or you were stuck waiting for the marshal to hook you back up.  These trucks were faster than we expected and handled really well.  The finishing order in this IROC was 1-Fritz (29), 2-Steve (28), 3-Al (27), 4-Jeff (26.15), 5-Paul (26.09), 6-Jay (23.23), 7-Alan (23.18), 8-Scott (23.10).

As a bonus, we ran one more IROC.  This one was with polymer Magnatraction truck cabs (no trailers).  This was definitely another fun class to run.  The order for this one was 1-Steve (53), 2-Al (51), 3-Paul (50), 4-Scott (45.20), 5-Jeff (45.04), 6-Jay (43.27), 7-Alan (43.22).

Some heat records for this track were tied and broken.  In Stock MT, Jeff tied the records he co-held in red (14 laps) and white (14 laps).  Jeff set a new record with 15 laps in blue.  For Polymer MT, Steve and Jeff tied Dave's record of 19 laps in red.  Steve also tied Ken's record of 19 laps in yellow.

Our season standings have been updated based on this race.  See the Standings tab for details.  Keep in mind, the totals are the best 6 races for each driver.  It's still up for grabs.  For stock MT, Top 4 in the full club are 1-Dave (57 points), 2-Jeff (55), 3-Steve (49), and Alan (42).  Alan has rocketed from 6th to 4th since July.  For Polymer MT, the Top 4 in the full club are 1-Jeff (57), 2-Ken (54), 3-Dave (53), 4-Steve (47).  The top 4 combined totals for the full club are 1-Jeff (112), 2-Dave (110), 3-Steve (96), 4-Ken (86).

For the West Side Series, Alan has a solid lead in stock MT with 42 points.  The race for second will be interesting, with Al, Jay and Scott tied at 26. For mods, the top 3 are 1-Al (34), 2-Alan (26), 3-Jay (19).  Overall for the West Side Series the order is 1-Alan (68), 2-Al (60), 3-Jay (45), 4-Scott (40), 5-Bob (29).

A detailed summary of the latest race can be found below or can be downloaded from the Standings tab.  A current summary of our 2013 stats is also available for download in the Standings tab.  A more detailed breakdown of the standings is coming soon, so stay tuned!

Breaking Down the QCHORS Points Series Through August

Here's a little breakdown of the QCHORS standings through August, with 3 races to go.  Keep in mind, you count your best 6 scores for each car class.

For stock MT, Jeff, Steve or Dave can win. Either can tie with Dave; and there can still be a 3 way tie. If Jeff has 2 firsts and a third or lower, and Steve has 1 first and 2 seconds, and Dave has no more wins then they can tie. If Jeff has a first and 2 seconds, and Steve has 2 firsts and a third, and Dave has no more wins then they can tie. If Dave wins 2 of the next 3 it’s over. If Dave wins 1 more, then Jeff or Steve can still catch him, but not both.

For Modified MT, Jeff, Ken or Dave can win. Either can tie with Jeff; and there are multiple 3-way tie scenarios. If Jeff wins 2 of the next 3 it’s over. If Jeff wins 1 more, then Dave or Ken can still catch him, but not both. If Ken or Dave wins 2 of the last 3 then Jeff must win 1 to tie.

For Overall/Combined, Jeff, Steve or Dave can win. Steve needs to do a lot to win (like win almost all of the remaining stock and mod races). If Dave or Jeff finishes at or near the top in just a couple of the final stock or MT races, then Steve won’t be able to catch them. Dave and Jeff can tie for the overall. Either of them can win Stock and Mod and the Overall, or it could be a split with 1 winning stock, 1 winning modified and either winning the overall. It appears to be possible but not likely to have Steve win stock, Ken win modified, but Dave and/or Jeff win the overall.  It’s a very long shot, but it can happen.

In the West Side Series, any of the West Side Series drivers can actually still win stock, modified or combined. It seems likely that the winner will be Alan, Al or Jay for stock. Al, Alan or Jay are likely for modified. For combined it looks like a race between Al and Alan at the moment.

August Race Report from Alan's

Alan hosted another fantastic night of racing on August 16, with 11 drivers racing. We raced our 2 standard race classes and then capped the night off with a fun Ultra-G race. We welcomed "New Dave" to the race, although "New Dave" was not so new to a number of the guys. To me, the coconut cupcakes won the race, but that's another story...

Top 3 went to Cincy, Jeff and Alan in the Stock MT class. Jeff, Cincy and Ken then took the top 3 in Mod MT. Top 3 in the Ultra-G IROC went to Cincy, Steve and Jeff.

Some heat records for this track were tied and broken. In Stock MT, Alan and Dave tied the record they both held in Blue with 15 laps in 2 minutes. Dave set new records in White and Red with 16. In Yellow, Dave tied a record he held with Alan at 16 laps. Jeff joined them by hitting 16 laps during this race. Dave set the only new records in Mod MT by hitting 21 in White. In the Ultra-G IROC Steve and Ken and Ken set a new IROC record of with laps in Blue. Dave set a new record with 14 in White. Bob and Scott set a new record with 16 in Red. Dave tied a record he shared with Jay and Alan by hitting 12 laps in Yellow.

Our season standings have been updated based on this race. See the Standings tab link for details. Keep in mind, the totals are the best 6 races for each driver. It's all still up for grabs. For the full club, Dave is leading Stock MT over Jeff and Steve (57-52-48). Alan and Paul share 4th with 36. In Mod MT Jeff, Ken, Dave and Steve are the top 4 (56-54-53-43). Combined the top 4 are Dave, Jeff, Steve and Ken (110-108-91-86).

Things are also tight in the West Side Series. Top 4 in Stock MT are Alan, Al, Jay, Scott (36-26-23-21). Top 4 in Mods are Al, Alan, Jay, Bob (32-20-16-14). The order for combined is Al (58), Alan (56), Jay (39), Scott (34), Bob (29).

A detailed summary of the latest race can be found in the Last Race tab or can be downloaded from the Standings tab. A current summary of our 2013 stats is also available for download in the Standings tab.

Breaking Down the Standings Through July

Here's a little breakdown and some fun facts about the QCHORS standings through July.  Please note - I did not break down every scenario, just a few of greater interest.

1. All active club members have had at least 1 top 4 finish in a race (counting stock MT, MMT and IROC races)
2. It’s a tight race for total laps run this season (“Million Miler”).  Top 3 are Steve 1124, Ken 1107, Jeff 1099
3. Top 3 in average laps per heat (all cars and tracks) are Dave 17.8, Jeff 17.4,  Steve 16.8
4. Leaders in podium (top 3) finishes (including IROCs) are Jeff 13, Dave 11 and Steve 7.
5. Since we count the best 6 races for the points series and we race 10 club races (excludes Enduro and Christmas races), a perfect season for stock MT is 60 points, 60 for Modified and 120 overall.  Jeff, Steve and Dave can still hit a perfect 60 in stock.  Jeff, Dave and Ken can hit 60 in Mods.  Jeff and Dave can hit 120 overall.
6. Most active club members can win or come close to winning the stock, mod or overall series, although most of us would need a perfect turnaround with the leaders being no-shows.
7. 3-way tie scenario in stock MT: If Dave secures 1 more win (and only 1)  in stock MT then he’ll hit 57 points.  Steve will hit 57 with a win and two seconds.  Jeff will hit 57 with a first, a second and two thirds.  All three hitting 57 is a possibility.
8. 3-way tie scenario in mod MT: If Dave gets a first and second in mod MT then he’ll go to 56.  Jeff and Ken will get to 56 with two seconds each or one first each.  Steve hits 56 with three firsts and a second.  Three of these 4 drivers could end at 56.
9. Jeff, Steve and Dave could all finish on 113 for the combined total.
10. The West Side Series is still too wide open.  The stock winner will likely come from Alan 28, Al 26 or Jay 21. The mods and overall winner for the West Side will also likely come from these 3, with Al showing an edge in both.

Remember, there are just 4 club races left (since December is an IROC only).  I will refine the breakdown after the August race.

Results from the LCS 2013 IROC Championship

As everyone has been saying, we all owe Stan a huge thanks for his hospitality and for running such a great event for his birthday race on his Shelby Speedway.  The track, the space, the food, the driving and the fellowship were all first class.  It was really great pulling together these 10 drivers from the Lexington, Cincinnati and Dayton Clubs.

As folks have mentioned, on the track it was Tony’s day.  No matter how you slice the data, he is the overall champion.  Tony ran the most laps, had the most wins, had the best average finishing position and scored the most points.

The full race report is now available for download on the Standings tab. Check it out!
