On, May 25, 2010, the fourth grade students from the Hurley School planted flowers at the Veterans Memorial in Montreal. Each year in what has become a Memorial Day tradition, the students plant flowers at several locations in Montreal. The as usual students receive instructions and assistance from members of the Range Master Gardeners.
Arranging the event this year was Maggie Callaham the new Iron County UW-Extension Summer Horticulture and Youth Assistant. This was Maggie's first time planning the Montreal planting. New to this years effort was a planting in front of the Park wall. It turned out really nice and the kids enjoyed it very much. They also planted some flower pots that were placed around park and City hall.

The students were divided into groups, each group did its own planting project under direction of Master gardeners Maggie Callaham, Diane Fontecchio and Lou Bonagura.
It should be noted that the fourth grader's teacher Monica Kolpin and the bus driver, Paul also aided in the planting. Every one had a good time.
The kids were very interested in the project and they seemed to enjoy the day very much. Although there is the possibility that they were enjoying the planned stop for Slurpees on the way back to school. Once again the Hurley students were exceptionally well behaved and were great workers. At the location where our grouped worked, passersby stopped their cars to thank the kids for the great job they were doing for the community. The kids really enjoyed hearing the praise.
