The RMGV’s were very fortunate in the spring of 2010 to have UW-Extension Horticulture Specialist Dr. Bob Tomesh of Madison, to teach classes on apple tree puning, grape pruning and an apple grafting class. The classes were open to the public with the RMGV’s providing sandwiches and cold drinks and participants were asked to bring a potluck item to share. 25 people attended and we got many compliments on having such a great class.
The pruning part of the class started at the home of RMGV's Vic and Zona and then we went to the site of the new Iron County Community Garden to prune some very old trees.
The grafting was done in the Iron County Courthouse meeting room.
We were fortunate to be able to have this class at Zona and Vic's. Dr. Tomesh is showing how to prune grapes.
Question time.
Tree Pruning time-the first couple of years are critical in a tree's life.
We are ready to try fruit tree grafting. Dr. Tomesh brought several kinds of stock for us to choose from.
Bob has been grafting since he was a kid........the grafting tools are pretty sharp! Watch out, Bob.
Kenn is an old hand at grafting.
It was nice to have a class of 25 participate. The lunch was great, too.
