Welcome to Room 303!
I am so excited that you have chosen to join us in the middle and visit our class homepage!
This is my fourth year teaching at Ben Gamla Charter School.
I have taught one year in third grade and have been fortunate to teach wonderful students. I am very excited to teach Middle School Reading for the third year now, the subject I am most passionate about. I won the honor of Teacher of the Year in 2010-2011. Together I know we will make this year an exciting and memorable one.
I was born and raised in Haifa, Israel and moved to the United States in 1997 at the age of 16. I now live in Aventura, Florida with my husband Michael and our dog Shemesh. I graduated from Hollywood Hills High and attended Florida International University. I graduated with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Elementary Education with an endorsement in ESOL. I am currently pursuing a Masters of Science in Reading Education, and look forward to continuing my education throughout my teaching career.
I love spending time with family & friends, traveling, and most of all - you guessed it.... reading :)
In my classroom, I promote an atmosphere of trust, safety, responsibility and respect. I work hard to help my students develop a sense of worth and build their self esteem, as well as foster independence and critical thinking skills. I believe that students should take academic responsibility and strive to achieve, thus owning their success. I work hard to build a sense of community among my students, and emphasize the idea of teamwork. I value cooperation and collaboration both in my classroom and as I work with my peers. I believe that great things can happen when we work together! Ben Gamla Charter School is a place where I really feel a part of a strong community and part of a winning team.
My favorite quote:
"I've traveled the world twice over,
Met the famous; saints and sinners,
Poets and artists, kings and queens,
Old stars and hopeful beginners.
I've been where no-one's been before,
Learned secrets from writers and cooks
All with one library ticket
To the wonderful world of books."
