Posting Photos to the Site
Use of the Photos on Red Pride

Any member can post pictures. Any photos posted on the site are meant for the use of our players, coaches, parents, school, and families. Inappropriate pictures will be removed.

Please do not copy photos from Sportswurlz (or any other copyrighted material) into our site, since they are the property of that organization. Any member with a free Shutterfly account can save/download these photos to their own albums and create photo books (printed) if they wish to do so.

At the end of the season, I would definitely recommend downloading the photos you want to keep - not sure how long Shutterfly will allow us to keep using their storage for free. If multiple people upload photos of a particular event/game, they will be consolidated into one album in order to keep the site organized. If multiple albums get consolidated, the surviving album's photos will not be in chronological order.

Photo Guidelines for the Red Pride (www.saratogafootball.com) Website

There is a several standards we implemented last year for photos.

1. Naming of the games - use the convention "YYYY-MM-DD: Team vs. Opponent at Location" (eg. 2011-11-11: Varsity vs Wilcox at Wilcox)

2. The album cover photo should be a consistent iconic image (like the helmet on the ground) - choose one for F/S and I use a Varsity Helmet for Varsity

3. Photo albums order should be arranged with latest at the top to oldest at the bottom on the page (http://redpride.shutterfly.com/2012fsphotos)

4. The Album Description must be a brief description writeup for the photo album (e.g., "The Wildcats of Los Gatos host the Varsity Saratoga Falcons in a division matchup.")

5. The order of the pictures in the album - should closely resemble chronological order.  Pictures of the same game/event will be merged into one album.

6. No Photo Watermarks - no trademark or copyright logos/watermarks of the photos - they will remain free of charge

7. Quantity of photos - try to keep the number of photos below 700

8. Diversity & Imagery - Try to get at least one of every player and coach each game - showing action, laughing, yelling, jumping, high-5s, friendship, teamwork, leadership.

9. Promote your best each week - Pick 20-30 best photos and add them to the Photos page http://redpride.shutterfly.com/photos as Latest F/S Photos - 2011-11-11

10. Photo Filenames - (optional) Naming of the photos is helpful - but not required (e.g. "F-S vs. Wilcox 2012-07-07 - 0001")

11. Tagging Photos - (optional) Tagging players names on photos - Tagging is Shutterfly is a pain. Duplicate names are easily created and hard to remove. The same tag can be create "Paul Jones" and "Paul Jones" yet point to different sets of photos.

Note: We only tag the photos on the 2012 F/S and the Varsity pages - not the "Latest photos" or the "Highlights" The tag convention is "Firstname lastername (player V#)" [Troy Doles (player v2)]

Last year I set up a special link system that allowed parents to click on their child and see all photos - but this means you must consistently tag players. That's why it's optional - tagging 700 photos takes hours. See left hand column on page http://redpride.shutterfly.com/2011varsityphotos

12. Beware duplicates - Several times last year, parents posted into the same album multiple times, occasionally check to make sure yours stay free of duplicates.
Wow!
This site is amazing!  Thank you to everyone who works on it.  It has made the team come alive for out of town friends and family.
Saratoga v. Gilroy (double win)!

Tagging Photos on the Site

2. Photo Tagging on Red Pride website

Every photo on our site can be tagged by any member (you must log in in order to tag photos).  Tagging is a great way to associate a player with a photo.  That way, players and parents can quickly find all the photos of their son without scrolling through 1000's of pictures in 10+ albums by the end of the year.

I encourage players and parents to tag the photos using the tags you find when you click "Add Name Tags" at the bottom right of any photo.

3. Tags Already Set Up and Being Used

If your player has a valid membership (for varsity, all players DO HAVE a valid membership with an email address).  His tag string has already been set up.  All you have to do is select it.

To do this, when viewing a photo, click "Add Name Tags" (you will see in in the bottom right hand corner of the screen under the photo, or on the "flyover menu" when your cursor is hovering over the photo).

You will see a list of names you may select.  You can begin typing the name to quickly find it.  If it is already tagged, the name will not appear in the list.

When you tag a player in a photo, Shutterfly will send him an email alert letting him know he has been tagged.

4. Added Shortcut in Tagging Players

You can also quickly find any Varsity Player by typing "v#" in the tag box...it's an easy way to filter the tags and selecet the one you want.

5. *NEW FEATURE ADDED* Varsity Photo Listing

We have created an entire index of the players in alphabetical order so that you can find any player tagged with just one click.  You will find this list on the left-hand side of 2012 Varsity Photos page.

6. Final Notes about Tagging

Photos in our site are posted in 3 places:

1) the 2012 Varsity Photo Page
2) the Photos Page (for the latest photos)
3) the Home page (under Latest Highlights)

The photos that remain throughout the season are only those in #1: 2012 Varsity Photos.

If you tag photos on the other two pages (latest) they will eventually roll off the site.  Please don't waste your time trying to tag photos that are only going to be posted for 1-2 weeks.  Go directly to the source on the 2012 Varsity Photos page, and tag them there.
Re: Saratoga News: Special Football Section
We read it this evening - "....are you ready for some <Falcon> Football?!!!!"  Bring it on.
Saratoga News: Special Football Section
This has got to be my favorite edition of the year. Everyone make sure you save your copies--especially parents of seniors. It's such an exciting time for Falcon Football; every year gets better and better. Go Falcons!
