Subject: Weekly Digest 9 - Rome's puppies

Meet Rome and her puppies

Hi Friends!  It's me, Rome!  My foster mom created this site so you can see pics and videos of my beautiful puppies.  My pups were born on January 7th.  Just like me, they are named after famous cities!  The boys are London, Houston, Montreal, and Oslo.  The girls are Paris, Vienna, Geneva, and Cairo.  Pretty cool, huh?  All my pups are healthy and perfect - even London with his crooked tail!

Click on the "Pictures" tab to see lots of great shots of me and my pups.  Click on the "Videos" tab to see and hear us!

Enjoy the pictures and video.  And come visit!  I love visitors - especially when they bring me treats!  :-)

Luv,

Rome

P.S. - That's me in the middle above and my buddy, Smuckers (the puppies' daddy) on the right!

Lori, don't feel bad ... we have two Labs who don't like to swim! Hopefully Geneva will learn to like it. It's so much fun to watch. Betty brought Jaycee over for a swim yesterday and Jaycee LOVED it! She was swimming non-stop. Hopefully all her pups will take after her. :-)

An update from Coco's Mom:

Just wanted to up date you on COCO she is a wonderful adorable baby. We love, love her. She can now sit, give us her paw and eat, eat, eat. She is afraid of the Ironing Board and runs up to our bed to hide.

Mattie her sister just loves her, most of the time. Mattie is not ready for all her energy all the time. They get along great. They love to sit on lawn chairs and just check out the birds.

We don’t know what we ever did without her. I will have jenny send you some recent Photos.

Thank you for all you did for this adorable little dog.

Hi! Geneva's mom here! Geneva's been spitting teeth out of her mouth all week! Lower canines and molars. She's on quite a chewing frenzy - mainly her human sibling. She's smart as a whip. She knows when she does something wrong, like snatching corn cobs off the dinner table. She ran like hell! I don't know what kind of lab she is, because she won't get in our pool. We've taken her in, but she swims right out and will not get in herself. No interest what so ever. Anyone else experiencing humping? mainly it's her stuffed animals, but lately she tried it on me and my daughter. Hopefully spaying will stop that. When are the other females getting spayed? We may wait until after the reunion. We'll keep you all updated.

Hope everyone got my email about the reunion! We're set for Saturday, July 17th at 2PM. Can't wait to see everyone.

Jaycee - you'll be all healed by then so you'll be able to chase tennis balls and swim! :-)

Hi to all of my sweet babies. It's me, Mom. I had my 'fix' surgery on Thursday and I am recovering. The very worst part was when my human put this cone on my head. I just stood where I was and would not move. I showed my human that I was a good girl and was not going to lick my incision so I haven't had that God-awful thing on my head again. The second and third worst thing about it is that I can't go for my long walks until next week and I can't chase tennis balls! How horrible is that. But, I guess I will survive and hopefully feel better. See you all at our reunion on July 17th

Charles and Lori - You MUST get a picture of Geneva sitting in the bathtub looking at the faucet! ;-)

Jen - What did the tooth fairy leave for Snickers? :-)

Hi everyone! I'm Geneva's mom, and yes, we decided to keep her name. We sometimes shorten it to Gennie. We have all been so busy (it seems everything culminates in the spring). Dance recitals, school projects, weddings, confirmations, etc. And right in the middle of it all is our wonderful pup Geneva. She has met (and been exhasted by) her 5 labby cousins and fits right in. Geneva has also lost all of her front teeth this past week. She has learned sit, shake paws, lie down, and the stay command (even when food is put in front of her), We're working on proper leash etiquette, and she is making progess, but she still gets so excited that she pulls when first setting out. I think she may finally be outgrowing the nipping phase (that was sure trying!!). Geneva traveled 3 1/2 hrs. upstate and rode very well. we take her for short rides a few times a week. She likes baths, and prefers to drink running water from the tub. We find her sitting in the tub staring at the faucet, waiting for someone to turn it on. I can't wait to see her in our pool. I think the next hurdle will be to stop her from table and counter surfing, which she has just begun. She has grown tall, and weighs 30 lbs., and when she smells home cooking, she goes crazy. If only the kids liked my cooking that much! I will try to upload some photo's, but I'm not real computer savvy. I may have my children do it, since they know more than I do. A summer meeting would be fantastic. we're still working out our vacation plans, but will definitely try to be there. Keep in mind that the girls are due for spaying in June - it could cause scheduling conflicts.

Here's an update from Baloo's (fka Montreal) family:

Hello Peggy;

Here's a shot of Baloo & Chee Chee during a weekend sleep over.

Baloo is now 28 lbs & I do not think he will ever grow into his feet. If he does we'll have to sleep outside. He is the pride of our family & is just like his Dad ( Jim ) very needy. He loves attention all the time & we love giving it to him. We are now up to 4 tricks : Fetch, Sit, Hide the Biscuit & Speak ( I'm thinking that was a mistake ). His contagious charm is only upstaged by his love of the outside. His walks/runs are constantly being interrupted by eat the leaf, catch the butterfly, opps big stick & of course catch the cat ( Gato ) who follows us everywhere.

We could not have asked for a better puppy.

More to follow.

Hi everyone! Just wanted to let you know that Snickers is a big girl now!! She lost 4 teeth this past weekend while playing frisbee outside. She was bringing me the frisbee back to throw it and I noticed it was bloody so I checked her mouth and she had lost her two top front teeth and her two bottom front teeth! We have a pretty big yard so it is pretty much impossible to find her teeth, but the tooth fairy did come! :) I am sure her brothers and sisters will be loosing their teeth soon too! Happy days!

An update from Snickers' family:

Hi Peggy!

I have been wanting to email you with an update on Snickers. She is doing good and she is such a trooper when it comes to her skin issues. It has been a long haul and seems confusing to many people. The vet has prescribed her with at least 5-8 medication pills that I give to her daily and requested that she gets a bath 5 days a week with medicated shampoo. The vet has done a skin scrapping to check for bacteria and scabbies and both results are negative. We are still under the belief she still has pyoderma but unfortunately Snickers can't shake it. We thought she was getting better a couple weeks ago because her bumps were gone and the scabs have flaked off and she wasn't itching. Unfortunately three days later it was back. I have made an appointment with the dermatologist for next Thursday. The trip there is about an hour to hour and half away but I am hoping this will be the answer to what treatment she needs. Today her scabs are mostly gone and her skin is smooth, hopefully they don't come back like before. Thank you for all the prayers and wishes!

On a happier note: Snickers is all settled in and house broken. We have been working on bells at the door but she only does that when she wants to. Snickers loves to play catch outside and sit in the sun on nice days. We also try and take walks everyday. Snickers likes to follow me around the house and watches everything! She eats three times a day and she sits and shakes before each meal. Snickers loves interaction with people and other dogs. She is not a big chewer on things around the house which is good. Sometimes she will bite after your hand, but I correct that with giving her a toy she can chew on. Her teeth are so sharp!! OUCH! I like to say she has little attitude because when she wants her way she will growl but not in a mean way. She has began to start barking also more often about nothing so I correct that with a squirt of water to her from a water bottle and she will stop. She is getting big. On April 9 the vet weighed her at 22.50 lbs. She just started going upstairs. She is very long and pretty tall. Snickers is a quick learner. She can sit, shake, lay down and roll over. We are working on healing on walks right now. She is also still learning the command "leave it".

I would be interested in the puppy reunion in July. All dates are good for me. I hope by then Snickers will be able to handle that long drive :)

Also, my email can go out to the other puppy families. I would love to hear from them!

Thank you so much for everything you have done!

An update from Charlie's family:

Hi Peggy,

We think Charlie would love to see his sibs, please forward our email johnsteers@comcast.net, count us in for the swim party in July, sounds like a great idea!!

Charlie is doing well, getting big and busy, we started WhatAGoodDoggy this week so we're excited about that! We found filled rawhides from Braxtons are one of his favorites and keep him busy chewing them instead of us, he spends lots of time outside in the yard with the boys and nice weather, a tired puppy is a calmer, happy puppy!!

Updates from Gabby's Mom and Dad:

Hi Ladies,

It was great to hear from you. Gabby is doing well, and she does love to swim! She and Maddie went in the creek at Okehocking Preserve two weeks ago when it was warm. Last weekend at the preserve we met a gentleman and his black lab Archie-he came from Brookline around the time we adopted Trooper! Then we ran into a young man and his chocolate lab Duke, who also came from Brookline! Both guys said they adopted through both of you. Brookline does great work for labbies! They all loved Gabby.

We would love to see the pups again. I wonder how big they are-Gabby is about 23 lbs and taller. How is Cairo doing? I have worried about that poor pup, as I am sure you have as well. Did the vet determine what was wrong with her?

Let me know if you would like to come see Gabby or have her visit you. She is quite socialized and loves other dogs.

Karen

Hi everyone,

Gabrielle (aka Gabby) (fka Paris) is doing very well. She has become one of the family and gets along well with “older sister” Maddie. She is growing like the proverbial weed and we are anxiously awaiting her adult teeth, although our puppy teeth wounds are healing nicely. She is very entertaining as she explores new horizons, i.e., long car rides, the ocean, other dogs. She is still somewhat unsure about what she should be doing when she encounters water, but we are certain that soon she will be hard to keep out of it. Stay tuned; further updates to follow.

PS. Take note in picture 2 shoes are off the floor.

An update from Houston's family:

Hi Peggy! Houston is doing great! He's growing quite quickly and is getting stronger. He is almost completely house-broken, as he's using his puppy pads and going to the bathroom outside. That has been a great improvement. He's had his shots and is getting his last shots for the remainder of the year in about two weeks. He's healthy and spoiled rotten! The good thing is that he sleeps downstairs on the landing in his little bed. When he wakes up during the night, he comes upstairs and sleeps on the hall carpet until we wake up. Now, Armeta is having Houston sleep in her room at the foot of her bed. He's a very good dog. I take him for walks and am teaching him commands like "sit," "stay," "down," and "go." I give him treats every once in a while when he does well. Now. I'm teaching him to sit, walk away from him for about a distance of 20 feet, then call him to me. So far, so good. We walk about five blocks daily and some times I take him to the park to run and play. We love him!

An update from Oslo's family:
Hi Peggy

Oslo is doing well, he has alot of energy.
He still bites alot but hopefully it will get better. He love to run around in the yard and play fetch. His training is moving along well otherwise. We would be interested in a puppy reunion and if any of the adopting families would like to contact us that is ok, interested to hear how the others are doing with being mouthy.
Stay in touch
