Ron on Sunny - My First Ride
Yup, that's right. my first ride was a horse. I can't remember not having Sunny around. I understand he moved into our stable when I was 2 1/2 years old. In any case, he was very cool. He left us when I was 12.

Grandma Sweet and the family Model-T Ford
Okay I wasn't even thought of when this picture was taken. Here's why it was important.
When Grandad Hurt bought this Model-T, it freed the women of the family from being stuck at home all week. Grandma Sweet and her mother both became career women soon after this.
When Grandad drove the Model-T home he drove it into the barn and yelled, "Woa Boy", and drove right through the barn wall; much to everyone's amusement. I'm sure he discovered the brake lever soon.

Sweets Standard Station Covington
As a kid I hung-out at my Grandad Sweet's Standard Station on the square in Covington. The site now hosts the IGA store.

Here's my Grandad at his station the year I was born.

Ron and Grandad Sweet in 1949
How cool is this! So, at 1 year of age I was hanging with my Grandad at his station. Loved the cars.
But drinking directly from the water hose was the coolest thing when I was 1.

Ron in 1948 Jeep in 1967
I learned to drive in this vehicle when I was 12. Drove it off road at the family farm. The Jeep had a very unforgiving clutch.

1972 Fiat 128 in Ontario 1973
This 1972 Fiat 128 was my first new car. Bought it with my grad school loan in 1972.
This car was a lot of fun to drive. It had a 4 speed manual and a 1.1 liter 4 cylinder engine. Don't even ask about horse power.

1976 Peugeot 504 Toronto in 1976
Peugeot 504 had a slick shifting manual transmission and an underpowered 4 cylinder engine. It was great for trips. Toronto 1976

1977 Peugeot 604
Shown at Elephant Lake in 1977. I traded the Peugeot 504 in on this French luxury sedan. It has a Volvo/Peugeot V6 and a GM automatic transmission.
The rear seat was so big it felt like a limo.

Richard, Christina, Katherine and I were sitting in the Paddock watching Hornish pass Andretti about 200 yards from the finish line. What a race!
