The Miracle of A Liver Transplant
Have you ever wished you could really make a difference in someone’s life? Consider Vincent Manglona.
Vincent was raised on the tiny, beautiful island. He moved to Guam and attended Cathedral Grade School, Bishop Baumgartner Middle School and Father Duenas Memorial High School. Vincent earned a Bachelor of Science degree at California State University, Fresno. He has been happily married for 25 years and has 5 children and 1 adorable grandson.
Now Vincent needs a helping hand. Two and a half years ago, Vincent learned, from a wellness checkup, that he had a badly damaged liver with
end-stage liver disease. In fact, Vincent had been battling liver disease since he was a teenager. The holiday season of December, 2007 saw Vincent’s condition deteriorate rapidly and only after being stabilized, he traveled from St. Luke’s Hospital in
the Philippines, to Stanford Medical Center, California.
Fortunately, there is hope in a liver transplant. Vincent qualified and a donor was found in a
matter of 10 days. On January 20, 2008, at
death’s door, Vincent underwent a successful
liver transplant operation. It is truly a miracle that he is alive.
Can you guess the cost of this “second chance at life?” At the end of January, Vincent’s wife, Benita, was presented with a bill for liver transplant costs in the amount of $811,000.00. But that’s not all. Although Vincent has some insurance, he and his family are faced with a financial burden that follows such a catastrophic illness. He will need a lifetime of follow-up care and anti-rejection medications alone range from $1,000 to $4,000 per month. They are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself. Furthermore, Vincent will be faced with a large amount of out-of-pocket expenses related to the transplant.

Vincent’s family and friends are helping! The National Foundation for Transplants (NFT) is working to help Vincent enjoy this “second chance at life.” NFT has been assisting transplant patients with advocacy, financial and fundraising support for over 25 years. But, the NFT, Vincent, his family, his friends need your help. Your gift, large or small, will enable NFT to provide the assistance that Vincent desperately needs now. Donations made to NFT, for the benefit of Vincent, are tax-deductible.
