After thirty years of doing commission work exclusively (in oils primarily, but other media, too. See the 3rd page, "OILS/Other Media Montage" for photos of some), I find it fascinating to concentrate on painting spontaneously and I am now working toward building a body of work in the ever-intriguing watercolor medium. It took me a year, to build the initial decent-sized body of work (some 87 in number). And, as I continue to increase this, I have come to love the nuances of watercolor. I discover that I like to take realistic subjects and integrate them with the mesmerizing properties of the watercolor. As the fluid colors bombard each other, co-mingle, swirl, integrate, or surround the realism, an unexpected, and magical outcome results.
I am continuing to learn and hone my skills. The artist has to constantly grow in the knowledge of the elements of value, color, contrast, texture, good shapes and good composition. All of these make up a single rendering. Each has to be continually evolving and at its utmost best to result in something spectacular and splendid. ---My aim!
Living in a New England forest environment affords scenes from which I've found endearing subjects and managed to capture on film or in my memory; also some of my accomplished photographer friends have given me permission to render their photos---with artistic license taken to create good composition, striking complimentary or complementary backgrounds, or special effects. Using elements from these sources, I create my interpretations.
