Latest news

These are the days

Very little time is spared these days to reflect on lifes little miracles.  Miracles that, as you live them each day, flash by almost unnoticed, but thankfully not taken for granted.  Never has a single new day seemed so alive, so magical, as one seen through a child's eyes.  Every day, a new adventure.  Every day, something new to see, to smell, to feel, to learn.  A child awakes to each morning with no reservations for the challenges ahead, or burdens carried from yesterday.  Only the charm of wonderment and limitless imagination awaits.  No time for the tired, no rest for the weary.  This it means to be Child.

Ryan is very excited to begin his newest of adventures in just a short 6 months - that of big brother!  His preparation tactics are sound, and he is adamant in his training.  While he is still waiting to find out if his newest charge will be a little brother, or a little sister, he is very much looking forward to the bond that can only exist between siblings.

To curb his enthusiasm until September, Ryan is also very anxiously awaiting his west-bound trip to visit everyone in Montana in May!  He has loads of hugs and kisses for all, including Nana, Papa, Gigi, Uncle Jory, Aunt Angi - and of course, last but certainly not least - cousins Elizabeth and Nathan (only the 2 coolest and best-est cousins a boy could ever wish for)!  Ryan is certain that good-times and great memories will be afoot during the thrilling week, and only hopes everybody is as excited to see him as he is excited to see everybody.  Mommy and Daddy agree, as Ryan puts it, "Its been waaay too long!"  (Or so he would if he could say, "Its", "been", "waaay", "too", or "long".  Those words haven't been added to his vocal repertoire as of yet, per say).  :P

What is number one?

One.  What is One?  One, they say, is the loneliness number.  One, is a singular sensation.  One, can be a fine day.  Indeed, one CAN be a fine day.  Ryan Dean Dellinger entered this world on a July 5th - therefore, it only seemed appropriate to celebrate on the next July 5th.  Mommy and Daddy eagerly anticipate a lifetime of July 5ths from now on!  This particular July 5th - marking Ryan Dean's first ENTIRE year started with a bang, or be that several bangs as Aunty Meg and Umma Chamberlain spent the night in Ryan, Momma, and Dadda's new home.  As would be the case, all parties included enjoyed a yummy BBQ and fireworks display.  Nobody, however, anticipated the fireworks to follow as Ryan and family opened their doors to friends and family the day after all of the fireworks. An amazing time was enjoyed by all as cake, presents, and the promises of tomorrow melded together in this special day.  Ryan's newest of young friends, Michael, stole the stage as party go-ers enjoyed the festivities inside and out.  The day ultimately concluded as the most proud Mommy and Daddy gave their little man a bath and marveled in the simple fact that an entire year had already passed.  To cousins, nephews, nieces and the like everywhere, please, PLEASE, slow down and let us all catch up...

"Guys" weekend

To truly understand what "Guys" weekend is all about, Ryan felt it important to first define the word "guy" and relinquish reins of this entry to Cousin Nathan.  "Guy" is baseball.  It is video games.  It is staying up late on a Friday night if for no other reason than to BBQ.  Essentially, "Guy" is all the things that make a guy's life worth living.  To that end, THIS "Guy's" weekend certainly lived up to the billing.  Fully buying into the "Guy" mentality, Ryan, Nathan, Josh and Bill (with a little directional and financial assistance from Barb and Carolyn) set out on a jungle safari at Rainforest Cafe.  There were elephants, waterfalls, and meals abound as the hungry crew dug in for a hearty feast.  Mind you this was all preface to a pinkish voyage later to the great American Girl store for Cousin Diddy.  Ryan, Nathan, Papa Bill and Uncle Josh surely tried their best to avoid succumbing to pinks, yellows, and reds by visiting none other than Game Stop to get their Big Game Hunter and Nascar PS2 games groove on.  By the end of the day, these manly of men were ready to call it a draw.  Legend would have it, however, that this day would not draw to conclusion before Nathan, Nana Barb, and Uncle Josh would visit the hollowed grounds of Fenway Park.  The mighty, mighty Red Sox were squared to battle the Braves of Atlanta.  Seated comfortably close to the home team dugout, the Sox of the Red Nation would ultimately succumb to the Atlanta Braves on this night, but no matter as they would take each of the next two games.  Nana Barb, Nathan, and Uncle Josh experienced a night  worth remembering for years to come.  The entire "Guys" weekend was corner-stoned by other trips to the Mystic Aquarium and, naturally, a day at Dave and Busters and an IMAX movie of Night at the Museum II viewing that Nathan and Uncle Josh both described as "awesome"!  All in all, "Guys" weekend was the perfect experience that all involved could appreciate and remember with a wide, and fond, memory and smile.

Age of Infant-cence

Truly where does the time go?  Ryan, having recently celebrated his 7-month birthday, continues to be a happy, curious, and easy-going little man.  He recently joined Gymboree and now enjoys weekly classes learning songs, playing, and socializing with other very adorable 4-9 month olds.  Ryan was fast to make friends and especially liked Colin, a 9-month old who shared some valuable crawling techniques with Ryan (a skill he is still working to acquire).  A few more classes - and further instruction from Colin - may have Ryan crawling soon.  In the meantime, Ryan has advanced to eating solids now and has taken to the mindset he needs to help during mealtime - a development that usually leads to a very messy baby, messy hi-chair, messy walls, messy parents, messy cats... you get the idea.  He gets more vocal everyday and has recently added, "Da-da-da-da," to his repertoire.  Mommy says it's simple gibberish, but Daddy knows better and thinks Mommy's just jealous.  While Ryan's "t.v. time" is monitored properly, his favorite programs are his Baby Einstein videos (which makes Mommy happy) and SportCenter (which makes Daddy proud).  The family eagerly awaits the arrival of Spring and all the fun that will come.  Ryan also wants to give a baby "shout out" to the newest members of his crew - cousin Samuel Alexander (born 1/12 in TN) and cousin Mason Dean (born 2/3 in WI).  Ryan's got a high-five waiting for you both... once they all figure out what a "high-five" is.

Winter Wonderland

Making the most of all the snow that arrived during the weekend, we have been enjoying all the fun that the winter season brings.  Ryan had his first encounter with snow and we're proud to report he seems to like it.  The fun started with Mommy, Daddy, and Ryan baking cookies together and then - deciding to face the elements - we delighted at the sight of Ryan in his new snowsuit. Mommy and Daddy couldn't help but laugh, recalling images of Randy from A Christmas Story with his arms stuck out to each side.  Heading out into the frosty day with Ryan in his new and trusty sled, Mommy and Daddy introduced Ryan to sledding.  He especially enjoyed when Mommy and Daddy yelled, "Zoom!" as he charged the gentle slope.  After returning home, Ryan sat enjoying some quality family time as Mommy and Daddy enjoyed some well-earned hot chocolate.  The three of us eagerly await the laughter and memories in store for us this holiday season as our little family builds our new holiday traditions.

Rocky Mountain High...

Or more appropriately "Hi!", from the Rocky Mountains.  While our journey to the land of the Big Sky has come to an end, the memories we shared there will last a lifetime.  Having the opportunity to share Ryan with our loved ones - family and friends - in Montana has made Mommy and Daddy very happy and very proud.  From the beginning of our trip when Ryan proved he was a model globetrotter (not even crying during any of our flights), our little man rarely even fussed while being trekked around the state from Missoula to Philipsburg; Anaconda to Butte.  Diddy and Nate (the Great) were amazing with their new cousin, and it was obvious Ryan thoroughly enjoyed their games and play together.  Ryan also met the newest member of the Plum family, Olivia Ryan, and both Daddy's (Josh and Josh) hope Ryan Dean and Olivia Ryan grow to have the same friendship they do.  Thanks in part to a late elk season, the whole family (Uncle Jory included) got the rare opportunity to come together for Nana Barb's birthday for a fine meal, cake, and photo opportunity.  Dressed to the nines, Ryan spent much of the meal, cake, and photo opportunity do what he truely does best - sleeping.  None-the-less, the entire trip was an overwhelming success and Mommy, Daddy, and Ryan look forward to the next opportunity to visit - as Ryan puts it, "Them weird, but quite entertaining, folks in Montana."

Three months (already!)

Mommy and Daddy can hardly believe that our little man is already three months old (on Sunday, 10/5).  Ironically, it is also hard to remember life before Ryan.  Taking a moment to reflect on all that has encompassed these last (or should I say, first) three months we're beginning to understand what it means to be truly blessed.  Witnessing Ryan's first experiences with the world around him, and getting to share him with the family and friends we hold so dear has been everything we could have imagined and more.  In just a few short days we will invade NWA airlines and fly to Montana to share in many more lasting memories.  Now, who's looking forward to flying with a three month old?

Happy Anniversary Mommy & Daddy!

Yesterday, August 16th, marked two important dates on the Dellinger family calendar.  Our charming and handsome Ryan turned 6 weeks old and celebrated the milestone with Mommy and Daddy's 5th anniversary.  To celebrate, we scratched our itch for adventure with a trip to the zoo.  Ryan - as he's been known to do on many an occasion - found the trip to be a wonderful opportunity to catch up on some much deserved Z's.  He did, however, share an amusing moment of wide-eyed wonderment with the momma elephant and it was hard to say who was more curious of the other.  Judging the expression on Ryan's face, he was most likely thinking that elephant was the biggest kitty he'd ever seen.  It was such a beautiful day that, after the zoo, we sat in the park under the shade of a most accommodating tree overlooking the water.  Mommy and Daddy enjoyed witnessing Ryan's first encounter with grass.  He wasn't too sure about how it felt, but hey - at least he didn't try to eat it.  All in all, I think that's a win.

Day to Remember

Ryan, Mommy, and Daddy had our first road trip as we loaded up the family truckster and headed north to visit the Chamberlains. This was Ryan's very first opportunity to meet his Great-Grandma Iams, and the occasion proved to be very special. Mommy and Daddy had a nice conversation as Grandma Iams doted over her first Great-Grandchild and recounted to us various stories about when Kathryn (Grandma Chamberlain) was a baby. Later in the day, Daddy was able to capture some nice images of 4 generations of Iams - Beatrice, Kathryn, Mommy, and Ryan. In the months to come, the same scenario will play out on the Bertapelle side when Mommy, Daddy, and Ryan travel to Montana. Many lasting memories are sure to be carried forward today and later in Montana as the bridge between so many generations of our families are brought together. Grandma Chamberlain was also kind enough to provide Daddy with a few images of him and his beautiful boy. As Daddy has a tendency to be on the opposite end of the shutter, catching some glimpses of "Mommy's Boys" together is most cherished.

Days to weeks

Ryan was very pleased to learn that Mommy and Daddy can now track his age in weeks (rather than hours and days). Much to our chagrin, however, Ryan asked for a cell phone to celebrate his 1st week. Fortunately for us, he seems to be more interested in sucking on his fingers and thumbs than using them for texting, so our monthly bill should be manageable for the time being. Ryan has also been very flattered with all of the wonderful comments on his website from family and friends and is most anxious to meet everyone just as soon as possible. In the meantime, he loves having Mommy and Daddy read him new messages. His visit to the pediatrician went very well this week. In fact, he had regained the weight he lost after birth in just 4 days! Umma (Grandma Chamberlain) has been tremendous over the last week. From the day Ryan first joined the world, Umma has helped in almost every way possible. The only thing Mommy and Daddy can't figure out yet is who enjoys their snuggle time more, Umma or Ryan. Nana and Papa (Grandma and Grandpa Dellinger) arrive is just 4 short days and as for Ryan, he's just looking forward to all the love and attention he can get. Funny thing is, I think all of us enjoy giving it just as much as (or more than) he enjoys receiving it.

[A] home at last!

Making for a dramatic conclusion to our 4th of July, the first signs of Ryan's pending arrival began minutes after midnight. Mommy was in a happy and calm spirit, so we waited (somewhat) calmly at home until around 2:00am when we went to the hospital. Grandma Chamberlain met us there at around 3:30am, and the "clan" was formally admitted around 4:30. Everything developed well throughout the morning, and at 1:40pm on July 5th, baby Ryan made his grand entrance with just a flair of the dramatic. After a brief stint in the NICU, Mommy, Daddy, and child (and grandma, too) were all reunited in our post delivery room in the late afternoon. Ryan was then - and continues to be - an exceptionally content baby. All the doctors and especially nurses raved that he was a model patient, and our new family was discharged from the hospital on Monday morning. Upon arriving home (and into his brand new nursery) Ryan proceeded to partake in his most favorite activity - sleep. The first hours at home were all but silent as Ryan slept as though he had just returned from a week-long trek in the mountains. Surprisingly enough, young Ryan is current (shock!) sleeping soundly in Mommy's arms and Mommy and Daddy are looking forward to what should be a relatively relaxed and happy day at home tomorrow. While it is sure to happen eventually, Mommy and Daddy are actually still waiting to hear our new joy really cry. The doctors assured us he most-definitely has the lungs, but as of yet he has elected to not share that talent with his parents... yet. (We know; be careful what you wish for...).

Story time

Nothing of significance to report; however, a wonderful evening of "story time" was too cute to pass up sharing with everyone. Care started out with "Goodnight Moon", followed up with a couple of chapters from "The Sugar Creek Gang" from Daddy (thanks to hand-me-down books from Al Bertapelle (Josh's grandpa). "Story time" is sure to be an important and daily ritual for new Baby Dellinger; with that in mind, we wanted to share a bit of the experience with all those whom we love. Enjoy!

Welcome

Born July 5th, 2008, Ryan Dean Dellinger continues to grow into a happy and healthy toddler.  His favorite activities include going to class at Gymboree, visiting the zoo, and getting all the love and attention he can from Mommy and Daddy.  He also would like to wish his Mommy, Nana, Umma, and both Gigi's a very happy Mother's Day!

Your other cousin, Nathan, is gone to Spokane for a few days, so I am the only child in this household until tomorrow which is when I go to my summer camp (Camp Watanopa) for a week.

Well - hello to my new little friend!

Can't wait to start buying you annoying toys that make noise to start you on a wonderful career of making your parents happy!

Welcome to the world, looking forward to meeting you soon.  Your cousins are very, very, very excited about you too!

Love,

Nana and Papa Dellinger can hardly wait to see you, hold you and love you.  Nine more days little man!  Do your job but don't grow too much till we get there.  I know Mommy and Daddy will take good care of you and will give you extra hugs and kisses from us all in Montana.  See you soon Baby Boy (that used to be Daddy's name).  Love you - Nana Barb

It's driving me CRAZY that I can't be there to hold you, to feel your warmth, to smell you, and most of all, love you!!!  For now, I guess it has to be a long distance relationship buddy!  That just means we'll have to work harder at this but I'm willing if you are!  Can't wait to meet you in person some day.  Welcome to the world sweetie!  Love, Auntie A
