Artist Statement

I paint the natural setting around me using color to heighten the visual experience. The water,  woods and the city inspire me equally. The abstract shapes of native plants and city streets fascinate me. I usually paint my portraits within the landscape but have added pencil sketches to my recent commissions.  Increasingly, I am working in a more abstract method but  always will be a lover of Cezanne, Matisse, Wolf Kahn and Sargent. I love the play of light and dark and try to push my colors to the extreme without losing  natural form and realistic approach.
