The family took off June 17th to Cape Disappointment in our new 2009 Escape for the 1st time. On the way we stopped at Cabela's and down the aisle was Warren and Shelli.
The drive seemed awfully long and later I found out we missed the intersection to hwy101 to Cape Disappointment. We ended up driving by Grayland and took a scenic route back to Cape Disappointment.
Shelli, Warren and Jennifer had arrived on Thursday. We spent a pleasant evening around the warm campfire.
Lisa, Rick, Kayleigh, Weston, Stephanie,Jen,Chris and Roxy arrived Friday.
This was Roxy first camping trip and she was roughing it in a Yurt. We talked Stephanie into spending the night with Roxy.
We sat around the campfire (great fire by Warren) and tried out the jelly rolls. Wrap the crescent rolls around the stick and toasted over the fire. You add jelly and honey in the center of the crescent roll. The marshmallows were huge and gooey with chocolate and graham crackers.
Later that evening Stephanie spotted a wild animal (raccoon) that decided to have a snack on the picnic table. Don't forget to put your feet up, you never know when a raccoon might show up. It didn't scare Stephanie - she was very brave.
Saturday we went to the Farmer's Market in Ilwaco and some went to the Garlic Festival. Later that evening we had a potluck and it started raining around 6:00. Thank goodness for Warren and Shelli's trailer! We all fit under their awning when it started to rain. Thanks again for letting us hang out at your campsite in the evenings.
We had rain on Sunday and headed off to go home. It wasn't disappointing at all since the rest of the weekend was so nice. Great food, lucky to have the good weather for 3 days, good time with friends and hoping to do this again next year.
I would recommend Cape Disappointment to camp, try out the wood fire oven for baked pizza at the park (really!), lots to do at Long Beach and walks on the beach. What a weekend to remember.
