Speaker Series Meeting, June 2009

June Speaker Series Meeting's Star
"Enriching Your Rabbit's Life," was presented by volunteers Alison Giese and Judith Pierce, but Barnaby was the star.

Judith's presentation
Judith Pierce presented a fun slide show that showed great bunny toy ideas and creative ways to set up their areas.

Attendees enjoyed the presentation
There was a good turnout, and everyone enjoyed the fun tips for enriching their bunnies' lives.

Alison Giese gets ready for the clicker-training demo
Alison brought her bunny Barnaby to show off the fun tricks he recently learned. (White bunny is Angel, his companion.)

Come on out... it's show time, Barnaby!
Barnaby plays in the Cottontail Cottage before his demonstration.

Barnaby gets a treat
Barnaby quickly learned his new skills through a reward system.

Barnaby goes through the hoop
After he touches the "target" (yellow ball on stick, but anything can be used as a target), he gets a reward.

Through the hoop again...
He'll do anything for those treats!

Alison is training him to hop on the box
(This is a new trick for him, not practiced at home)

He considers it, but isn't quite sure...
Oh well, let's move on to a new trick...

Barnaby runs through a tunnel
That was an easy one for him... he picked that up right away.

Trying the box one more time...
He had fun doing his tricks for everyone, and is looking forward to learning more.

The first annual Halloween Hoppy Hour was held at the Bunny Supply Store in Kearny Mesa. Some people came in costume...

Tina Otis - Rabbit Crossing Sign
Very clever!

Amy Spintman - Bunny in Cottage
Very appropriately, Amy came as a bunny in a Cottontail Cottage. (Amy is the creator of this popular bunny toy.)

Another cute picture of Amy

Alison Giese - Bunny Cow
Every Halloween I dress up as some sort of cow in this costume. This year I was a Bunny Cow! (Dutch Bunny Cow, actually)

Rita Otera - 50's Girl
Rita is wearing a poodle skirt - she made the poodle herself! She was going to another party after this one.

Lisa Echevarria - Bunny
Lisa hand-made this fabulous bunny costume!!

Lisa Shows off her Great Costume

Yummy Snacks
We also had really good pizza, but I didn't get any pictures of that.

The Spooky Punch
Lisa Schenk made this very scary-looking punch! Fortunately, it tasted MUCH better than it looked! :-)

Cookies with Halloween Colors

Litter Box Cake
Phyllis McLaughlin made this very hysterical cake to look like a bunny litter box. It was as delicious as it was clever!

Enoying the Food
Amy Spintman, Phyllis McLaughlin, Tina Otis, Denice Writesel, Lisa Shenck, Rita Otero and Debbie Moses.

Taking her Show on the Road
Amy decides to go out to the road and do some bunny-promoting.

Amy Waves at Passing Cars
(No, really, the punch wasn't spiked!)

Not a busy road... too bad!

Meg feeds Bunny Amy
Meg Spratley feeds a baby carrot to Amy.

Thanks, Meg!

Bunnyfest 2006

Bunnyfest 2006
Bunnyfest 2006 was held on Sunday, Sept 24 in Heritage Park in Old Town, San Diego.

Beautiful Day
Bunnyfest 2006 was very well attended. It was a beautiful day, although in the afternoon, the winds really kicked in.

Clicker Training & Agility
A highlight of the day was this demonstration by Andrea Frick, volunteer with rabbit rescue, B.U.N.S., in Santa Barbara.

Agility Course - Easiest Level
Mattie comes down the ramp to do the first jump. (Andrea brought 3 bunnies to do the demo: Mattie, Muffy and Filbert.)

Mattie Easily Does First Jump
B.U.N.S. stands for "Bunnies Urgently Needing Shelter" Check them out at www.bunssb.org.

Approaching Pool with Life Guard

Muffy Jumping Over "Pool"
Muffy is a beautiful tan angora. All Andrea's agility bunnies were rescued.

Second Level - Muffy
Muffy jumps over the second jump, which now has a raised bar.

Second Level - Mattie
Mattie also clears the raised bar. Mattie is a black and white fuzzy lop mix.

Second Level - Filbert
And Filbert also easily makes the jump. Filbert is an agouti lop mix.

Filbert Dives Over Pool

Agility Course - Third Level
Mattie is ready to demonstrate the third level of the agility course.

Third Level - 2 Bars on 1st Jump
The jumps now have another bar added!

Yea! Made it!

Ready to Dive Over the Pool

Third Level - 2 Bars on 2nd Jump

Clears both bars on second jump!

Another great jump!
BF_ClickerDemo_83-cropped.jpg 2006-09-24

Third Level - Filbert
Filbert also clears two bars.

Third Level - Muffy
Muffy gears up for the big jump over two bars.

Nope!

Oops!

Muffy Stops to Sniff the Pool

Third Level - 2nd Jump
Muffy contemplates the 2nd jump with 2 bars.

Ending on a Humorous Note
Muffy actually ALWAYS refuses to jump two bars. Instead she knocks the lower bar out, then jumps under the top bar.

Animal Communicator Presentation
Brigitte Noel, of All-Ears Animal Communication, talks about animal communication in support of the human-animal bond.
