Richmond County Yacht Club Opening Ceremony:
Sunday March 6th RCYC is having their "2012 Opening Ceremony". Please wear "Full Dress Whites" to attend.
Boating Course Saturday May 12 2012:
Ship-228 I Scheduling a Boating Course Saturday May 12 2012 at the Rahway Yacht Club - 1706 Peterson Avenue Rahway, NJ 07065. Cost $15.00 For Materials. If Interested Notify Skipper. This will be an all day affair. Bring A Bag Lunch and Drink.
FCC Ham Radio License Course:
A Course Will Be Given For Ham Radio License By Mate Joe Mitterando of Ship-228 NJ. It will be in NJ by near the Outer Bridge. The Course is $15.00+ for Materials. It will Start May 16 At 19:00 hrs. Sessions 3 Hrs for 4-6 Weeks. Final Test. If Interested Contact Skipper.
Ships Meeting April 18 2012:
Ship-24 Crew Reviewed The Chapter on Emergency Procedures. They reviewed the use of Equipment for Emergency Procedures. This Included the use of Distress Flags-Horn Signals-SOS signals with Flash Lights-Hand Signaling ( How to Wave Properly ) An Automatic Personal EPIRB was also shown and handled by the Crew . The USCG requirement of having Up to Date Flares for use in case of Emergency explained. At the End of the Night the Scouts went outside the Scout Hall for the Demonstration of Igniting Flares and how to use them Safely.
Monday April 9th Container Port Visit:
On Monday, April 9th, members of the Customs Border Patrol JFK Post 4701, Troops 37 and 160, and Ship 24 took part in a tour of the New York Container Terminal. For the past few years, the Maritime Industry has been able to introduce a group of youth to the wonderful career opportunities the industry has to offer. Thanks to board member and President of the New York Container Terminal, Jim Devine, they were able to show these Scouts and Explorers firsthand what goes on in the Maritime world.
Since 1982 the Maritime Industry has raised over $3,000,000 to support The Greater New York Councils, Boy Scouts of America. The Maritime Industry’s continued support has helped provide summer camp opportunities to disadvantaged Scouts across the five Boroughs.

April 9th 2012 Ship-24 "Honors Guard Crew" Commenced With The Opening Ceremony For Tonight's Staten Island Council's Round Table Meeting In Honor Of 100 Years Of Sea Scouting.
Ham Radio License:
In the near future there will be a "Ham Radio License Course" being given for Scouts. It will be close bye in NJ. The Cost for materials is $15.00. If you are interested please let the Skipper know.
Ship-228 Training/Work Party-Cruise:
The Sea Dart - Ship 228 of Rahway NJ will be hosting Ship 584 from Conn. Friday April 20 to Sunday April 22 2012. They will assist in getting the Sea Dart prepared all day Saturday. Sunday the Dart will take Shake Down Cruise. Ship-24 is invited. Please let Skipper know if you want to attend.
April Ships Meeting Change:
The Ships Meeting Has Been Changed To Thursday April 5th At The Scout Hall 19:00hrs. We Will Be Preparing For The Opening of The Round Table Ceremony.
Sea Scout Bridge of Honor:
Last night Ship-24 attended the North East Bridge of Honor in Swedesboro, NJ. Our Yeoman Christine was honored by receiving Sea Scout of the Year for Ship-24. Congratulations Christine! The Crew and Family Members has a Great Time. Thanks go out to our Commodore Deidre Buchner of the "Liberty Flotilla" for organizing a great event.

On March 31 and April 1 at 9:00 AM "The Mooring Committee" will be scrapping and painting the mooring barge, red boat, and working on club moorings. Ship-24 Crew Continued Their Preparation For The "Bridge of Honor". The Committee and Parents met with the Scouts and discussed upcoming events for the Ship.

This past meeting the Scouts received their Dress White Uniforms. The Crew also practiced the Bridge of Honor with a mocked up Land Ship.

2012 Northeast Region Bridge of Honor - Ball:
The Bridge of Honor - Ball is quickly approaching. Any Crew member who wants to attend please notify me as soon as possible. The deadline for Ship-24 to send in request for tickets is February 17 2012. THIS CAN NOT BE EXTENDED! All information is on link at right side of this page. Also any Adult members who have a system at work that can purchase an Advertisement for our Ship there is a form for that also. I will be attending the Ceremony and Dinner only. We need to file Tour Permit. It is About a two hour drive once on the Turnpike.
Meeting of January 25 2012 Training & Uniforms:
Tonight Ship-24 Crew started their introduction to Sailing and Boat Handling. Learning the terminology and different types of Sailing Vessels Included in the lesson the Scouts had a hands on lesson of storing a full Sail properly its Sail Bag.
The Uniform Oder for "Cracker Jack" whites has been placed by the Skipper for the following Crew Members: Bosun Christopher, Yeoman Christine, Specialist Rob, Specialist Lukas.

Yesterday's Cruise Ship Tragedy is a perfect example why Sea Scouts learn "The Sea Promise"

Sea Scout Meeting - December 7 2011
Tonights Meeting the Crew demonstrated more of their Knott Tieing Skills and received Sign Off. They also received instruction on securing Shackles. The next meeting Training Session is Rescheduled because of Christmas till next January.
July 2012 Centennial Sea Scout Celebration:
In July of 2012 there will be a 100 Year of Sea Scouts Celebration. The Event will be held in Baltimore Harbor. Several Ships from all over the East Coast will attend. A good percentage will arrive by boat and make it their "Two Week Cruise". Ship-228 may make this trip aboard the "Sea Dart II". If any youth of our crew is interested in attending please notify me. There will be limited space available for Officers also. The Cost as of now will be around $300.00 for the two weeks. Half of this money goes to the affair and half will be for fuel and food for trip. I will post a link so you can read more about the Event.
Bridge Of Honor Dress Uniform:
The Crew was given forms to fill out for the Dress Whites. They haven't been returned yet! If you want to attend the "Bridge of Honor - Ball" in March please return the filled out form to Mrs Gazinki or Skipper ASAP. The last date to turn them in is the First Meeting in December. If you misplaced the forms they are here to download at upper right side of page. Don't forget to put your name on top.

After participation in several Emergency scenarios by each the Ships Crew members are now prepared to give Emergency Aid if it is ever needed. Thanks Again Keith. Tour To Sea Scout Sea Base NJ:
This Past Saturday Ship-24 Crew visited the Rahway NJ Sea Base. The Crew had a tour aboard the 65' Mini Ship US Army T Boat "Sea Dart II" and the 38' Cruising Sailboat "Scout-X-Scape". The Crew received Instruction on the operation systems of both vessels. Afterwards a pizza lunch was provided in the Galley of the Sea Dart. Thanks go out to Chairman Tom Handley for the Invitation.
Next Meeting Trip To Rahway NJ Sea Scout Base:
The meeting normally scheduled for Wednesday October 12th At The Scout Hall is now a Trip on Saturday October 15th to the Sea Base in Rahway, New Jersey - The Time is 10:00 hrs - The Location is 4400 Tremley Point Rd, Rahway, N.J. Please notify Skipper or Mrs G if you plan on attending. We will visit with Ship-228 "Sea Dart II". A tour of a 65' U.S.Army T Boat & a 38' Sailboat. DIRECTIONS: Goethals Bridge to Route 1/9 South - 3 Lights To S. Wood Avenue - Make Left Hand Turn ( Exxon Station on right). Go straight past Park & Fire Station. Over Turnpike Past Fuel Tanks. Base on Right Side before Dead End ( Private Road )

This is for all adults Ship-24. Please plan to take Hazard Weather Training on line. When does your Youth Protection expire? If you have current First Aid/CPR Training when does it expire? The Make-Model-Year of the Vehicle you would be using for Transporting Sea Scouts. Do you have Swim/Safety Afloat? When Taken. Please try to get this to Brenda before September 23 so tour permits can be filed properly.
September 14 2011 Meeting:
Tonights Ships meeting the Crew, lead by Busons Mate Christopher, reviewed making fast a boat to a dock. During the first half of the meeting important Ship board knots were reviewed and sign offs initialized. A Ship board VHF Radio was displayed and the proper operating procedure for Emergency "Maydays" & "Security" calls were demonstrated. The crew learned the proper placement of the Emergency Radio Placard and its purpose for transmitting Emergency Calls. The second half of the meeting the Crew was introduced to the proper use of a Vessels Whistle for communication. This was accomplished by each Crew member taken part is a "Whistle Game". Mr G also demonstrated the proper use of Busons Pipe for laying aboard a vessel.

All crew members taking last part of Course - REMEMBER!!! You need to wear long pants for finale Swim Test.
Saturday August 27 2011 - Lifesaving Merit Badge - 1st Half:
Our Bosun and Bosuns Mate, Michael, Rob & Ryan completed the first half of the Life Saving Merit Badge. A Sea Scout Requirement for Advancement. Remember you must show up Sunday September 11th to complete. Those Scouts that were unable to make the Aquatics Course will have to be present September 3rd for first half at 09:00 hrs. All Scouts will then need to appear September 11th at Pouch Camp to complete the Course. Please respond to Mrs G to confirm your attendance. The next meeting because of the start of school :( will be Wednesday September 14 at the Scout Hall. Meeting starts promptly at 19:00hrs. Come earlier to help set up Land Ship.
Wednesday August 24 2011 Ships Meeting:
Tonights meeting also included a short Committee Meeting. The Committee discussed new uniforms. The Ships meeting was conducted by Yeoman Christine. The first half of the meeting the Crew went over the International Code Flags and learned how to spell their first name phonically with the Flags. They also had their first introduction to the VHF Radio. The Emergency Channel and Main channels used by the Bridge were also explained. The ships portable radio was set to hear the local NY traffic and was passed around so they could get a feel for it.
Wednesday August 10 2011 Ships Meeting:
Tonight the new 2011 crew were introduced to the "Land Ship". Bosun Laura conducted her first boarding and then went on to instruct the new Crew the proper salutes to God and Country. The second half of the meeting the crew was instructed on how to secure a dock line to a bit. Mr G also introduced for the first time the meaning of International Signal Flags. The Skipper explained the meaning of the Ships Sea Scout Flag and the reason for it's colors.

This Saturday July 16 2011 All Scouts From Ship-24 that have not been reviewed by your Ships Officer Mr Gazinki Please Report To Pouch Camp before 10:00 Hrs for review. It is advisable to pack a lunch and drink. Bring Swim Suit And Towel.

Long Cruise East Coast:
You don't have to be a member of Ship-228 to participate in a Long Cruise. If you are a registered male Scout or Officer you can join on the Cruise! The Cruise includes Sea Scout Training daily by qualified Instructors. ( See Calenda For Dates & Cost ) It includes all your daily meals plus healthy snacks and drinks. You will learn about small Ship handling along with piloting, weather, safety and on board electronics. You can earn Sea Scout advancement training. The Cost is nominal.
