Spring Hill LibraryGeneral Meeting Minutes
· Membership Contact List: Kathleen asked that any corrections be made to the list so that a corrected copy could be emailed to members. Please be sure to keep your email current since ALL communications come via email. Mildred Hernandez has taken over the Membership Chair. Mildred will send out renewal reminders 30 days prior to membership expiration however, there is a 30 day grace period if there is an extenuating circumstance delaying your renewal. If you renew after the 30 day grace it will be treated as a new membership and the group will not receive the $15 rebate from the state organization for the year. Please note when you have paid your membership the membership acknowledgement will be via email and that email will have a section for you to cut out and keep as your proof of membership.
· Sew-In : This event at Heritage Pines has been very successful so we will continue meeting through the summer even though the dining room will be closed Jun - Sep. There are several restaurants on US19 (.4 mile away) where we can have lunch. The management at HP is concerned of the noise & dust being a negative for us but we will decide after the June sew-in whether to continue. Valerie offered to check-out the availability of the Timber Pines craft room.
· Introduce New Members: We had one new member added to our chapter: Regena Morrell
· Community Service Projects 2013: Kathleen handed out a template for keeping track of hours & expenses we incur in making our charity projects. Kathleen suggested we keep a small note pad w/pen with our project to jot down our time and keep an envelope with receipts as it will help each of us when it comes time to tally the information for submission to the FSS state treasurer. Kathleen emphasized this information is a requirement by the IRS for the organization to keep its not profit status. As you know we will have two sewing projects this year. We will continue making and donating comfort pillows to the Moffitt Women’s Cancer Center as they have been enormously popular with breast cancer patients. Anyone who wants to sew these pillows only has to ask for the pattern and instructions. They are simple to make. When you have finished a set of pillows, please bring them to the next general meeting.
Our new project will be making blankets for the Linus Project that donates blankets of all kinds and sizes to children in traumatic circumstances, whether from healthy issues or family issues. The blankets can be any size for any age from infants to teens. You can sew, crochet, or knit any blanket pattern you wish. Information and free patterns are available on the website: http://www.projectlinus.org/. Pat asks that you keep all your blanket donations and bring them to the November meeting since she has nowhere to store them.
If you would be willing to store blankets and/or pillows, please contact Kathleen.
There will be a Project Linus blanket sew-in at the library on Wednesday, August 14, 2013. Please bring 1 or 2 yds child friendly fleece. Please wash the fleece first to remove excess lint and dye chemicals. You can bring anything to decorate the edges as long as it isn't something that a child can remove or choke on. Kathleen said if each of us can make just one blanket at home (either crochet, knit, pieced quilt, cheater quilt) between now and November we could possibly donate 60-100 items and that would be awesome.
