Daddy, you gonna roll over & cuddle?
11-06-2009: Ostere still wasn't comfortable so she decided to try and climb back up on Clint.
Mommy your shoulder is SO comfy.

Hunter with Cone
Hunter comes back from his check up with Dr. Tepper to be sure his stitches are healing nicely after his neutering. Due to the excessive swelling we had to put a cone on to be sure he wasn't licking his sutures. He came in the house and once inside he refused to move from this spot for almost 6 hours. 08/16/2009

We have TV!
01/22/2010: TV is now installed.
01/22/2010: Preparing desk for primer. Filling in gaps and screw holes.

01/24/2010: Desk is primed and waiting for counter top paint.

01/25/2010: My corner of the room. :-)
Put down that camera and come help!

It has been a LONG time since I've been on this site to update you. It's been a whirlwind of months! Everything from graduating with my Associates of Business (AB) this past May, to launching my Photography business, to taking on a full-time job at home, and even keeping my full-time student status for Fall...
First, I'll try to get on here and post some new pictures of the pups in the next few weeks. Graduation was great, but I know the roller coaster isn't over. I start my upper division classes in August and I'll be taking 5 classes!! That's in addition to all the craziness of my new careers.... And YES that was plural, not a typo!
My new photography business has hit the ground running and doing great! I've completed my 1st wedding reception and it was FANTASTIC! I had a blast, the bride and groom were great! I had so much fun and kept busy too!! The site is generating traffic and the ads on craigslist are generating a lot of business. I've gotten some new equipment and will be booking my 3rd wedding here shortly (my 2nd is scheduled for next week!) Not bad for a beginning. Just gotta keep the momentum going!
My OTHER career is working from home. It is SO nice and so flexible, but with Clint also working from home, it looks like I might be ejecting him from our office and moving him to the garage. This way we won't interfere with one another while we are on the phone. I can spread out and feel so comfortable. So, perhaps some new remodeling photos to come.
School is crazy! I got a letter from CSN that I actually qualified for application to an Endowment fund so I might actually have a nice scholarship for the next two years at UNLV. That would be fantastic!!! Even if it is just a portion of my tuition it would be great! I'll be submitting my application next week and will find out more the first part of August so watch my Facebook page or here for updates on that! However, I still won't be done after that because there is still my MSA work which will be another 2 years, but if I can get past this BSBA with high marks, I should do well for getting scholarships for my masters!
All-in-all, things look to be back on track and hope to fill you all in soon!
Returned... Churchill "Aka TeeJay" returns.
Well, Churchill, formerly TeeJay has been returned. Seems he wasn't a good fit for the family that took him a year ago. Apparently he was very possessive over the owner, toys, and treats. He would bully the doxies she had after they had attacked him when he was a puppy.
So, last Tuesday (08/17/10) we went and retrieved him. Oh MY is he big. He makes all the boys look like pygmies. LOL... I'll try to link some photos soon.
He seems to be adapting well. The first day we did not leave him alone with the other dogs as we wanted him to feel comfortable. He bonded with Clint and would whine and cry when Clint would go outside. He did snap a few times when he was sitting next to Clint to keep the others away, but we have corrected that issue. He is already kennel trained and is used to being walked instead of using a doggie door. So, we had to teach him how to use the doggie door that first night. Only the one accident in the house right before we taught him, and none since. I've taken him for several walks and he does really well on the leash. We have not seen him show any aggression over toys or treats, but this is only his 3rd day here.
Today, we have started leaving him alone with the other pups so he can bond. I am upstairs while doing this to ensure if any fights break out I can still be here to break it up. Aside from whining the entire time, he has done very well. No fighting at all.
Next week we are planning to start introducing him to sleeping downstairs instead of in the kennel and depending on how he does this weekend, may start leaving him downstairs when no one is home.
Again, I will try to get some current photos of all the pups, including Churchill (we kept the name).
Ostere has Addison's Disease
The last 2 weeks have been filled with ups and downs. We recently have undergone a lot of testing on Ostere because she was showing signs of rapid weight loss, not eating, not drinking, lethargy, and just overall changed.
We took her to the vet and had many, many tests ran. Eventually, we found that she has Addison's disease, a disease where the adrenal glands to do not function properly. After several days with the vet and being taking back and forth, we finally have her home for the next 2 weeks. She is currently on a dosing prednisone (a steroid) and she also is beginning her monthly dosing of DOCP (a very expensive injection therapy).
In about 1.5 weeks (08/16) she will begin her testing to ensure that we have the proper medication dosage for her and to see if she has put any weight back on. For now, it is a waiting game to ensure that she does not backslide and hopefully we can get her back to her normal self soon. Regardless of the upcoming testing, she will be forever on medication for this disease as it has no cure.
I will try to post again in a month with the results of her testing and if her proper dosing has been achieved.
I have posted 2 links below with information regarding Addison's disease.
SF Trip removed from calendar
I've removed the San Francisco trip from the calendar as Clint and I will be staying home and Linda will be going with a few of her friends instead. As a result, there will be no new photos added for this event and thus, I have removed it.
So, mom & dad got me a beautiful throw with a basset hound on it, but since the dogs are always tearing things up, I've been very afraid to use it. Afraid that they would get it and it would be ruined. So, Clint came up with the idea of wrapping it around a board with a foam backing to make it into a headboard.
Today, we did it. We took the throw and converted it to a headboard. Here are the photos we took during the construction of the headboard. We don't have many during the foam border creation because it took both of us to create it. It also took both of us to hang it on the wall as well.. So, check out the album.
Lucy About to pop!
I found some additional photos from before she was about to pop with the pups. It's really amazing to see how big she got and the fact that she had 10 in there. I'm posting them with this journal and again in "The Pups" album above.
After another semester of hard work, I received my 2nd invitation to Phi Theta Kappa, the College Honors Society. I've scanned the letter and attached it. I'm very happy about this!! Just to be invited you have to have a minimum of 3.5 GPA and only the top 10% of the student population receives invitations.
Lucy's training is almost over. Then, we begin sessions with us, the trainer, and her. These sessions will help us break bad habits and reinforce the basic commands as commands and not requests. I've added a few photos from one of her recent sessions to show how well she is doing.
Lucy's doing very well with her training. So far, she's learned heal, sit, stay, and she's started working on the "come" command yesterday. I think that one is going to be one of her hardest ones for him. I am really surprised with how well she is doing so quickly. The trainer seems almost like the dog whisperer. He's very good. It's funny though because Lucy has even gotten to the point where she paces the floor waiting on him. I've been watching him, trying to pick up on what he is doing and I've been asking a lot of questions to help me train the pups on my own.
River - New home? Nope...
Well, it seems the person who wanted River was told they could not have him. So, we still have six total puppies from the litter. We did have someone drive by yesterday remembered us from when Lucy had just gotten pregnant, so we may have a lead there, but not entirely sure.
Good news for Smilie!!
So after a long wait in the surgeon's office, we are finally told Smilie will not need surgery for the fracture in his face. The surgeon believes that he is young enough that he should recover just fine. The only concern he had was the potential to build a callus around where the break occurred which could create potential difficulty in opening his jaw. We are ecstatic over the news that he will not need to undergo any additional surgery at this time.
Cassie & Celeste + Leash = new experience
Today, Cassie and Celeste started to learn how to walk on a leash when I took them to the vet for their shots. While getting into the vet was a slow process, leaving the vet they did very well on their leashes. YAY!!!
Well, we did get an appointment for him scheduled for tomorrow (09/25/2009) at 7:30am PT for evaluation with the surgeon. I should know by tomorrow evening how extensive the fracture is to his face and if there is anything that can be done to correct it. Wish us luck on our appointment.
Ok, so we've gotten back from the vet and unfortunately, the prognosis is not good. It appears Smilie has a fracture in his face just below his right eye. So, we are being referred to an orthopedic surgeon for dogs. Hopefully, I can get an appointment soon to see him. I will try to attach his x-rays for you to view. In the meantime, I'll keep you updated as soon as I know more.
Smilie is attacked, AGAIN!
Smilie was attacked for the 3rd time in 9 weeks that has resulted in serious medical attention. This time, Smilie was attacked by both Lucy and Chance, each having a side/section of him and pulling in opposite directions when Clint got to him. After getting the two of them off of him, Hunter then lunged towards him, but Clint stopped him from getting to him. I scooped up Smilie who was covered in blood and drove him straight to the vet's office. After 1.5 hours of waiting, we were finally given him back, but he was doped up pretty good. The vet showed us the multiple lacerations on his body. He had 2 on the right side jaw, 2 behind his left ear, 3 on his left side around his rib cage, 1 on his left hind quarter, 1 on his right hind quarter, and 1 near his penis. The 3 on his left side around his rib cage were the most severe with one almost piercing his chest wall. Luckily we were able to get to him in time before they had injured him more seriously. His right eye is severely swollen and doesn't look good, but we think within the next 3 days, the swelling should go down. I will keep you updated on his progress. For now, he has an appointment to return to the vet on Wednesday for a recheck.
Update on Baxter (Formerly Pierce).
We got an email today with some updated photos of Baxter and his new siblings, Rocco and Bessie. He's doing really well and they are still working on potty training. He still tries to play with Bessie, their 9 year old basset, but she isn't interested in playing so he gives up and moves on to Rocco, their 1 year old Beagle. Rocco did have a minor injury after trying to get under a piece of furniture after Baxter. He did need some stitches (Rocco) so they went ahead and got him neutered at the same time. They are giving him his first bath today so I hope he doesn't fight them too much on that one. :-)
We are glad to see that they are keeping in touch and sending photos.
Ty now named Bugsy Sigel.
We ran into Ty and his new owners today at the vet's office. He looks great and they said he's doing very well with the potty training. He is sleeping through the night, but doesn't like the kennel during the day. He looked like he was even doing really well on a leash.
He was going to the vet to get all of his shots updated and placed on a wellness plan at the same Banfield Pet Hospital that we use. I know he is in good hands. I hope to receive pictures later from them.
Churchill is in a parade!
We've received a recent update on Churchill, formerly TeeJay. Seems they were in a parade on 09/05/2009. Here is a portion of her email:
"We were on a float and he had a black cowboy hat and red scarf. He was the hit of the parade. Lots of pictures were taken of him on the float. I will send you one after I get them from a club member. He weighs around 15 pounds. He's outgrown his first cage in 3 weeks. He just loves his new big cage. It's like a Taj Majal to him."
I will post picture(s) once I've received them from his current owners. I can't wait to see them. I'm sure you are anxious as well.
Ty goes to a new home.
Well, it's official, Ty has gone to a new home. I think he will be very happy in his new home. We look forward to receiving new photos and hearing about his homecoming. I'll be sure to update everyone once we hear back from the new owners.
Ty may have a new home!
I received a phone call from another potential buyer that came to see the puppies yesterday. Seems he is very interested in Ty and told me over the phone that he will be by to pick him up on Thursday (09/03/09) around 5-5:30pm PT. He's going to a family of first-time dog owners, and I've given them TONS of information on the breed.
I will post an update once he has been picked up tomorrow night.
Buster is renamed again. :-)
I just got an email from Buster's (Formerly Pierce) new owners. Turns out they had a previous dog that passed with the name Buster and it was too awkward for them, so they changed his name again to "Baxter". They said he's doing really good with potty training since they don't have a doggie door in the home and he is getting along really well with their beagle, Rocco. He does avoid their female since she is a bit older and aggressive, but they expected that. I've posted the photos from them in the first posting.
Pierce finds a home.
Well, we got a great stir of calls yesterday, 09/01/2009. Seems our ad has moved to the top of google search engine for Bassets in Las Vegas. :-) As a result, Pierce was sold yesterday and one of the other boys may perhaps be sold by Thursday. While we are sad to see him go, I am confident that he is in loving hands.
We did receive photos of him in the new house today and notice that he's been renamed to "Buster" I think the name suites him well. We look forward to many more photos and videos from this owner. I will post more later today as I'm off to class now.
Well, I've gotten updates on both Ariel (now known as Zoey) and TeeJay (now known as Churchill). Both are doing fantastic in their new homes. I've received photos of Churchill that I will be posting in the album for the litter. I am so happy that they are all adjusting well.
Smilie is injured again & Hunter goes in for a recheck.
Well, Linda was putting Lucy out today and we missed a food bowl. Unfortunately, Lucy didn't. She attacked Smilie again so we had to rush him to the vet again. He was once again placed with a drain in his face to avoid infection and given 2 staples under his eye. It was in almost the exact same spot as before.
I am really nervous about her around food now and I don't leave her or the puppies alone with food around. I only put food down for about 30 minutes and then pick up any uneaten food. She will be going to doggie bootcamp beginning in September. Hopefully she will learn some manners.
Hunter also visited the vet during this emergency appointment. I decided to have the vet take a look at Hunter's incisions from his neutering as he appeared to be swelling and I did not want to take any chances of infection.
The vet instructed us to have both Smilie and Hunter in E-Collars to prevent scratching, licking, or pawing at any incisions either of them have. It's so cute to see the two of them together with their cones. I will try to post the few pictures I have of the two of them.
Both were also given prescriptions of Antibiotics and pain killers.
TeeJay is gone.
While we are sad to see him go. I know he's going to a great home. His new parents are breeders of dachshunds. They live in AZ and have 2.5 acres of land. He is going to LOVE the new place. I'll post new pictures on the "Hunter & Lucy's Puppies" Site listed in my Favorite links section.
Ariel finds a new home.
On the heals of TeeJay's sale, I get 2 new emails from someone wanting to look at the puppies. By 4 pm I had them on the phone and by 7:30pm they were picking out a puppy. The puppy they chose was Ariel. This was so cute because they wanted to purchase TeeJay but due to the fact that he had been sold, he was no longer available. After a big debate between Pierce and Ariel, she won out and got Ariel.
So, we say goodbye to 2 puppies on Friday, 08/14/2009.
Our first puppy sale...
TeeJay was sold today and his new owners will be here on Friday, 08/14/2009, to pick him up. I will be trying to grab lots of shots of him over the course of this week to add to the album. I will even try to grab some video of him as well if I can.
