Japan Trip

It's late Spring here in Sydney. Jacaranda, which is the symbolic tree for Spring, is blooming right now with beautiful purple flowers.
We just came back from trip to Japan. We spent two weeks there and had lots of fun.

We celebrate Stella's SHICHI-GO-SAN, which is a traditional rite of passage and festival day in Japan.
We took a family picture with the girls in traditional KIMONO. They did their hair and make up too so it was a quite event.
We also took Stella to the Shrine in the KIMONO which I wore when I was 3, and Amelia also wore it when she was 3.
For my parents, to see my little Stella in that KIMONO meant so much I'm sure.

Jason and I took a short trip to ATAMI, and stay at traditional stile hotel, which is called Ryokan.
We enjoyed hot springs and food and celebrate our 10th anniversary.

Amelia and Stella spent fun "sleep over" at my parents place.
They just had fun with my dad's garden picking up flowers and herbs, taking a walk to the neighborhood parks, going to the neighborhood kids house (public indoor kids space with books and toys, FREE!). We were nervous leaving them with my parents especially for Stella, but they were completely fine.

We had Halloween in Japan too. My brother lives in one of the tall apartment building. The girls followed my nephews from 1st floor to 13th floor door to door.
They called out TRICK-AND-TRICK (instead of trick or treat) with thick Japanese accent and got bag full of treats. What a fun day!

Stella turned 3 during this trip. We celebrate her birthday with all my family.
Stella had kept asking if its November and how many more nights she had to sleep.
When I said "2 more nights" then she said "OK, I will go up and sleep twice!"
On her birthday, we took her to the Tokyo Disneyland.
Stella met Cinderella and gave her a hug and she and Prince charming said happy birthday to her.
She can't be happier than that.

We were busy whole time with daily agenda and didn't have enough time to just relax, 
but sure the girls had so much fun and they love Japan and can't wait to go back again.
I'm very happy to hear that!

I still remember the drive I took to New York from Dan and Kathy's after Christmas holidays years ago.
I took that drive a lot, but I remember the first time when I saw the sign saying "New York  xxxxxmiles" and  felt like I was driving home.
Well, when I landed Sydney, I still felt like this is a new place with unknown adventure.
I sure felt happy and relaxed at home but Sydney is still new place for me, yet. 

I want to have thanksgiving dinner with other American family this year. That will be fun too.
Then it is already Christmas season! Which means BBQ and beaches here!

Spring 2011

Our winter was officially over. We had a few days which was cold enough for us to buy a big nice heater, but still it was so nice and mild compare with NY. We spent many weekends at the beach actually. Jason got his wet suit for his birthday present and surf board for his father's day gift!

Amelia is doing well at school, she loves dancing lessons and her reading is getting so much better. She is very good at writing. She can sound many words out in her own way and keep writing. She is a kind of girl that if she had paper and pens, she could spend hours with it.

Stella is still with all the time, but we have a busy schedule. Her Japanese is still very strong but she is learning some English too. (Although she is very shy when she speaks English.) She don't wear diaper anymore during the day, but still at night. 

Amelia is going to have another school holiday for 2 weeks in September. We are planning to have a surf trip to the beach with friend's family.

Thanks for the visit, JIJI BABA and Shin's family!

My parents arrived from Japan right after Amelia's school's 2 weeks Easter Holiday started. We enjoyed their visit! They came to see Amelia's swimming lesson, and we went to walk around the city, took a ferry to the beach town to have some beer, visited fish market for fresh oyster and prawns, and then spent a night at wine country. (We rent a car and my mom and dad drive in their small car.) The girls loved to have a guest and required to sit in the dining chair and we all HAD TO WATCH their show. 

After a week later, my brother Shin and his wife and 2 boys came. Tsubasa is very smart 7 year old boy and Kakeru is funny 4 year old. They had so much fun together! Stella always want to hold Tsubasa's hand and Amelia loved to take care of Kakeru. We were so lucky to have beautiful weather to enjoy the city. We went to see the sunset together (starting with the beautiful night sky with many stars includes southern cross), played on the beach (of course ended up with 4 very wet kids), zoo to feed kangaroos, and neighborhood pool and movie nights after dinner. 

It was great to have visitors so that I could also have a chance to see around the city. It is not easy to walk around with a map to find the way especially with kids, but it was nice that I can do that with my family because they enjoyed everything including being lost. Thank you for visiting us and we are looking forward to have you guys again!!

Amelia's 5th birthday and Easter in Fall!

We had a fun day on Amelia's birthday! We invited 6 friends from her school and had a party in the park. 
We are going to have almost 3 weeks school holidays! Last Friday they had Easter Parade at school. Kindergarten kids were dressed as an egg with bunny ears and danced a chicken dance. It was too cute!!

Happy Birtyday, Amelia!!

Amelia turned 4.
She had been talking about her birthday for a long time and since it might going to be the last birthday party we celebrate in Brooklyn, we thought about having a big party at rented place or activity center,
but we decided to have a small party at Daycare on Friday Afternoon and had a party with her 6 friends at our small apartment.
We limited the parents and it was actually ended up as a nice quick party, we just let the girls come with the princess dress and let them play for a while,
then let the kids decorate their own cupcake.
It was difficult to decide who to invite. I think it will always be.
She said that she had a good day so we are very glad to hear that.
Highlight was although the fact that we had Dan and Kathy. They made her birthday really special. We decorated the apartment together, and opened the presents together in the morning.
That was very special for all of us to see Amelia's excitement with her new bike in the morning and her big eyes when she saw the snow white dress.

I remember 4 years ago when I had her. It was just like this day, the air was a little bit cold but the bulbs started to bloom here and there.

Happy Halloween!!

Well, ya, it's princess again.
Jason took Amelia to Target and she choose her dress by her self.
Last year, I was very impressed by hand made costume, things like yellow rubber globes for duck's feet, but 3 year old is too mature to be my hand made ducky anyway.
Stella's costume was also decided by Amelia, so this year's theme is Princesses Party.
Jason is the Prince, and I get to be a horse.
This year, since Stella's Birthday is next day, Dan and Kathy is going to visit us.
I will ask Amelia what Grandma and Granddad should become.
 
Jason is getting very busy for the season with his paper, but he is doing very well.
He managed his life so well and excursive regularly and work hard and take care of the kids.
Amelia started her 2nd year at her daycare. She is one of the old kids there and very much involved in all activities and confident in the environment.
She is not the type of the girl who likes to play with other girls with girly play, she prefers to play with boys.
She also likes to be by her self sometime, and very independent, original, unique.
Stella now learns how to kiss, so she is the girl who always give a smile to anybody, send a kisses, although not so much for hugs.
She just starts to stand up by her self for about 5 seconds.
She will be walking next month I bet.
Although she doesn't sleep through the night. She goes to bed around 8PM, then wakes up 3AM, 5AM and  then 6:30AM.
She just need to be held and suck a bottle, then goes right back to sleep.
I know we need to sleep train her at some point, but I still can not make my mind.
I get to nurse her few more weeks ( I will stop when she is one.) and she is getting so big and I miss holding my little baby at night.
 
I hope that everybody is doing fine and looking forward to see some of you at Christmas!
(Since we went to Japan this year, we have enough miles to buy some of our tickets!!)

Another perfect Summer Vacation (Japan version)

After the long 14 hours flight with supper aggressive girl, Stella,
we landed to Japan on August 19th.
We spend 18 days in Japan and came back on September 6th, the day before labor day.
Yes, it was one of the kind trip.
We suffered from jet lug so bad, I had to go back to work from that week,
so actually it was hard for a few days but I came back to normal soon,
but girls and Jason was baking Pizza and building a fort in a living room when I woke up one morning.
We finally get back to normal life and I can find some time to update of our Summer in Japan.

Jason and I used to be young and a couple without kid in Japan,
so we both expected to go out like that.
We realized that it was not going to be like that anymore, and
since we both were so excited to do so,
that was a bit frustrate for us from the beginning.
It took Stella for more than a week to get used to my parents,
and it was not so easy to leave her and went out at night.
Amelia was fine and she helped Stella (she calmed her down and
Stella cried out and finally slept on Amelia's lap) that night.
Although we did went out and had great time with old friends.
It was great to catch up with them and see how much we both changed.

Although the highlights of the trip was Amelia and her cousins.
My brother Shin has 2 boys, Tsubasa(5) and Kakeru(2)
and it was so great to see them playing together.
Tsubasa is a perfect big brother, he called her name (Japanese name,"Mei") and
"Come on, Mei! " and Amelia was so excited to follow him everywhere.
Kakeru is still little and soft and Amelia needs him also when she needed to slow down.
They sat next to each other and did the baby talk together.
It was such a joy to see them play.
Stella did well too. At the end, she smiles to my dad and let him hold her.
That was my highlight of the trip to see the smile of both Stella's and my dad's.

We went to my parents Beach house with all my family.
Amelia swam in the inner tube for the first time,
and did fireworks at night.
We went to Tokyo Disneyland too. Amelia saw "the real Princesses"
and enjoyed all day from 8:30AM to 8:30PM!!

Stella loved to sleep on Futon with all of us,
so it is hard to bring her back in her own crib.
She was so comfortable on Futon so that she could roll all over without
bumping into the bars, and snuggle with someone.
I know it is a life style difference and we can not do that in here in US,
but I liked to snuggle with her at night also.
Now she wakes up at night 3-4 times.
It is very tiring, but I should feel very lucky to hold and see her go back to sleep.
It's not going to last too long, I hope, and it's such a special time for me too.
She is going to be one year old soon, and I feel that she grows up so fast.

It's already fall and leaves start to change colors in New York.
I'm planning a field day in the park with other Japanese mom for next week.
(It's going to be a big event for more that 100 families will join!)
It's great to be in the community that I can be part of it.
We are planning to go to Apple picking also.
And Dan and Kathy will be visit us for the Halloween and Kathy and Stella's Birthday!

Perfect Summer Vacation at Grandma's.

Stella was such a light sleeper and was waking up every hours at night.
I was at my limit then Jason took both girls to Michigan for two two weeks.
 
Actually since Amelia's daycare is off for a week, we originally planed to send only Amelia with Jason,
but he took Stella as well.
So, I had very nice quiet week 9days for myself.
I didn't remember how I spend my times before.
You have so much time without kids!!
Although I missed them a lot. I realized how important they are in my life.
I can't say thank you enough for Kathy and Dan, and also Jason who let me have a chance to appreciate what I have.
 
Anyway, Amelia and Stella had a perfect Summer Vacation you can imagine as a little girl lives in Brooklyn.
She loved to pick Raspberries from Grandma's garden. (Hey, those berries costs $4 in the tiny package around here. I think we had must spent $275 on the raspberries if its in Brooklyn.)
Kathy and Dan took turns to do the night shift for Stella.
Since Jason had to work too, girls went to the Zoo with Angie and Zack and Connor.
Amelia saw the elephant for the first time which is her long-time-dream.
(Although she was very impressed by the Hippo who ate apples.)
They swam in the pool and swing under the big tree.
Amelia helps grandma to make cinnamon roll.
 
I went up to join them for July 4th.
We spent low key day playing at the back yard and jumping in the pool, then we all went to see the fireworks together.
 
It was so nice to see Amelia paling with her cousin.
She truly admire Zack, and she think Conner is same 3yr old as her.
Although Connor strongly appeals that he is 3 and half, not 3yr old.
They are so cute talking together!
 
Stella and Kaylee plays together too.
Kaylee is really laid back and relaxed, and Stella is always busy.
Stella grabbed a toy from Kaylee and Kaylee was totally fine and smiling.
You can't see them without having a smile on your face.
 
Stella first struggle with Grand parents.
She only allowed Jason to hold her for a first few days.
Although at the end, both Amelia and Stella very attached to their Grand parents.
It was great to see them playing together.
 
We are going to Japan to see other Grand Parents in Japan in late Summer.
I hope they will feel comfortable with my parents too.

Birthday, Birthday, Birthday

I can't beleve that it almost the end of April!
So, Amelia turned 3 on March 27th. Every year when  I see little bulbs come out or magnolia starts to bloom, I remember the day I had my little girl.
She was really excited and March is all about her birthday.We had a party with three other girls who we know each other from when they were baby. (We met through March2006 baby's group.) Then she had a party at her school with pink cupcakes and princess cookies. ( I bake 40 cupcakes with pink frosting and princess tiera shape cookies with pink icing.) Then we had her last party (!) at the New York Aquarium with her friend who was adopted last year around the same time from China at the age 2, their birthday was just a week apart and they are very good friend.
And I turned 34 (!) on April 7th. Amelia was very into birthday and asked me what kind of cake I like. When I said vanilla and Strawberry, she had that confused face and convinced me that I should go with chocolate cake. So we did. (She love-love-love chocolate.) Jason used his savings and bought me a high end camera. I think it is the most expensive present I ever got from him!
It's going to be my life work now to take a picture!
We starts making a plan for this summer. We are going to go back to Japan the end of August!! I really miss all my family and especially my dad who never see Stella. Amelia is very cool age to play with her cousins. We have many friends who had a kids so we can have many play date in Japanese! I hope Amelia's Japanese improve during that time.

Spring!

It's true that 2nd kid has less picture than your first one.
This is my first update since last three month!

Stella (Now we call her "zuzu" as her nick name.) is now 4 month,
she is doing great.
She sleep through night, I nurse her 2-3 times when she starts her noise,
and she goes right back to sleep after that.
Since we live in one bed room apartment,
Amelia and Stella shares the room.
Now they get used to each other's noise so we all can get good sleep.
(Well, I haven't sleep through the night for more than a half year now,
so I get used to it...)

Stella goes to our neighbor's house every day, except Thursday.
Luz is the neighbor who also took care of Amelia when she was a baby,
and now she takes care of Stella during the day.
I take Stella to Luz 8AM, and I pick her up around 6:15PM.
(Stella has the longest "school" hours in our family.)
Jason takes Amelia to Daycare 9AM and pick her up at 6PM.

We establish our routine to have dinner around 6:30PM,
so we prepare everything the night before.
It's nice to have a dinner together with four of us.
(Before Stella, one of us work late every other day, so we never had a dinner together.)

Ideally, kids are ready to bed by 8PM.
Stella is doing really good to be on schedule, but Amelia is always the one who make us trouble.
(She wants to drink water, then pee pee again...)
Jason works after that and I start cooking for next day after the kids sleep.

Amelia is really exciting about "Spring",
She said something like;
"My Birthday is in March, right?"
"Then I will be three like Matthew, right?"
"Then I'm going to be a big girl, right?"
"When I become a big girl,
I can be a big boy and I can stand up
and pee-pee like Matthew, right?"

Well, I don't think she is going to be a big boy, but she will be three soon, because Spring is just around the corner.

Happy Thanks Giving!

We went to see the balloons at Macy's parade on the day before Thanks Giving.
Since we have my mom stayed with us, we took it advantage of it and ask her to watch
Stella.
My mom really enjoyed cooking with us and having traditional Thanks Giving dinner with us.
We were so lucky to have her for a month and I can't imagine how I get through without her help.
Of course it was not always easy to live with "Mom" again, because, you know, it's mother and daughter thing,
But I want to do the same thing what my mom did for me when my daughters are going to have a baby.
My mom's mom (my Grandma) also went to Kuwait when my mom had my brother. Then my mom came to NY to help me.
Wherever Amelia and Stella are, I want to be able to be there with them when they need me.

November is almost over and Stella is almost a month old. She sleeps most of the time, especially at night.

Hello Baby 2!

When I heard nurses said, " I just page to the anesthesiologist!" I knew that I couldn't wait for it. It was so hurt and I knew it comes really quick. I was shouting like,

"HELP ME!!!  WHY THERE IS NO ONE AROUND? Jason, get someone here, quick!!!!"

Jason was really calm and cooling me off with wet towel and sayin,

"Honey, Everything is OK."

but I knew it is NOT OK.

 

Nurse Gina finally listened to the crazy prgnant lady-me- and called on-site OB. I don't like male OB, but at this time, he looked like an Angel.

He checked me and said,

"Oh, she is right, she is going to have a baby soon. She is already 9cm."

 

Then everybody finally listened to me, they prepared the table and light turned on and they called, NOT PAGE, my OB.

As soon as she came into the room, even before she took her Jacket off, I was ready to push.

 

"I need to push now, NOW!!"

and Gina said

"OK, let's do it!"

and she counted 1,2,3..while I pushed.

It was very helpful, so everytime my contraction came,

I screamed and said,

"Gina, count, COUNT!!!NOW!!"

Gina was so nice and she counted 1,2,3,

and after 3 or 4 push (although it seemed like forever), the baby came out.

 

It was just 2 hours after we arrived the hospital.

I'm a mother of 2 beautiful girls now.

Hello Baby!

Hello Baby!

 

Yes, there was Halloween, and then we had a baby on the next day.

 

Actually, we enjoyed Halloween night quite a bit with my mom and Amelia.

Amelia was princess (and Daddy was a Prince).

We trick-or-treat on our block and went out to see a parade.

 

Next day was beautiful autumn day in .

 

Jason was busy with his paper and projects so he went for school,

But Amelia and Baba(My mom, Grandma in Japanese) and I went out for a playground in the park all morning.

After the nap, we went to out for grocery shopping around and on the way home, I felt a pain started.

I wasn't sure at this point if this is really contraction or not,

but by the time we finished our dinner and I gave Amelia bath,

I knew that it's going to happened soon.

So I called Jason around ask him to coming home quick.(and he did.)

By , I read a story to Amelia and she went to bed,

then Jason came home and the car (I arranged earlier) came.

 

We were at the hospital around , and they checked me and I was

4cm dilated. (10cm means fully ready to have a baby.)

So at this point, nurse and everybody thought that it's going to be around

after . Although I felt the pay getting stronger and stronger,

and I was begging for the pain medication.

 

Then we changed the room to the delivery room. (It was the same room

as I gave Amelia birth!)

Stella's present from Santa

Stella's Dream Birthday Parade
Stella got Bella (from Beauty and the Beast) dress from her Grandma for her birthday. Then we took her to the Tokyo Disney Land for her Birthday Present. Watch her waving to her dream princess Bella at the parade showing off her new dress!

We had Stella's Birthday Party at my parents home this year with all of my relatives! The Chocolate things on the cake was the main art part, which I did with my sister in low, choosing 4 kids's favorite character. (Amelia and Stella's ones are from Japanese girls animation.)
